Hebrews 2: Some Neglect the Great Salvation Jesus, a man who is said to be the son of the god of Christianity, has offered to save those in danger of going to a place of eternal torment. However, it appears that some of the men who hear these things are neglecting to obey them, despite believing and seeing the many miracles that the men teaching them are performing. But why would these men, who have seen the miracles and heard the words of those who claim to be of this god, reject being saved from such torment? Why would a god, as powerful as these men claim he is, allow his men to live in these sins? How exactly does someone neglect this “gift” of salvation from this place called Hell? If I were a believer of these teachings and I heard
The Old Testament of the Holy Bible gives many examples which provide modern man with guidelines for the use of scientific method. Millam (2008) explains that there is an underlying order in nature demonstrated by the patterns and regularities of God’s creations. These regularities can be seen in the forces of nature and are stable throughout space and time (Millam, 2008). The original classification of species, use of precise measurement, and even the first account of scientific research, are all included in the Old Testament of the Holy Scriptures. God gives scientists some clear frames of reference for seeking knowledge and truth in science.
The Jesus Creed has really helped me to look at Scripture from what I believe is a more biblical and Jesus centered perspective. While I have read the words Jesus used from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Leviticus 19:18 many times in Scripture, I never considered how all His teachings might have stemmed from them. I did not know Jesus had amended the Shema of Judaism because I didn’t know there was a Shema before reading this book, but now knowing this I can more clearly see what Jesus was doing. He was correcting a misunderstanding how some used and understood the Torah. Most paid excellent attention to the letter of the Law;
With regards to the Christian faith, and from a historical point of view, the Jewish people were considered as the chosen people of God. Abraham, who is regarded as the father of Christian faith and to whom God first revealed himself, was a Jew. The ten commandments, which serve as a guide for Christian behavior, were revealed by God to a Jewish man named Moses. Jesus Christ, who Christians recognize as the son of God and God himself, was born among Jews and hence was also a Jew. So, there is a perceived connection between the Jewish people and God. It is very ironical that the “people of God” will suffer such a horrific experience. For those who believe in some form of deity, and most especially for Christians, it seems obvious to ask why God allowed doom to fall on his people. Why do bad things happen to good people? This is a ubiquitous interrogation which generates numerous debates. Let’s consider the story of Jesus Christ, a story filled with many paradoxes. The Jews, who for a very long time awaited the coming of the Messiah, ruthlessly put him to death when he finally came. Even more troubling is the fact that Jesus Christ, who is considered son of God, has also examined God himself. This implies that he had the ability to defeat his oppressors, or even escape from them. Instead, he journeyed innocently towards death, just like the Jews. “They guess where they are going, they know it, and they keep silent. Tense, thoughtful, they
In the sermon of Jonathan Edwards, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” he talks about how God cannot save oneself as soon they get to hell. In the sermon Edwards says, “...the devil is waiting for them, hell is gaping for them, the flames gather and flash about them, and would fain lay hold on them, and swallow them up; the fire pent up in their own hearts is struggling to break out: and they have no interest in any Mediator, there are no means within reach that can be any security to them” (Edwards 1). Edwards is horrifying the people to follow God’s footstep and telling them to try not to sin that much, so oneself would not go to hell. He is telling them if oneself sin, they will likely go to hell without God saving them. When hearing a scary thing from a person, it could change the way they think and the way they do
Martin Luther, born into the Catholic Church in 1483, is considered to be the father of Protestantism. 1 Luther was a devout man who dedicated himself to the study of the bible; in addition to being a Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Wittenberg, he was also a priest and a monk. He spent a lot of his time focusing on what one could do to earn eternal salvation as it was written about in the Bible. This was especially troubling to him given the actions of his colleagues at the University of Wittenberg and his fellow priests and monks. He felt the actions of many of those in the Church that he loved were both immoral and corrupt, and especially in the midst of his own struggles with the idea of salvation, these actions troubled him deeply. 2
In chapters five and seven of the Book of Matthew, it reveals that some may not be granted entrance to the Kingdom of Heaven after facing judgment. An analogy is made that the good tree of heaven cannot possibly bear bad fruit just like a bad tree cannot bear that of good fruit. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7: 19-20) indicating the tradition view of Hell being a dark, fiery, pit of depraved spirits. In the Gospel of Mark, Hell is referred to as “Gehenna” which is a term associated in Hebrew scripture that dictates it a place of the wicked. Hell is a place where God’s judgment has inscribed the sin filled life upon one’s spirit. In the Gospel of Luke, Hell is referred to as a place where sinners are “perished”. In the parable of the rich man and lazarus, the rich man whom deemed to hell requests to warn his brothers of the afterlife, “Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead” (Luke 16: 31). This draws a similar comparison to the rejection of Jesus’s resurrection in the greatest sacrifice to repent for all humankind’s sins. God grants the gift of mercy and infinite love to all, but a soul can be condemned to Hell due to their free will and the
Christianity is a vast umbrella; a faith that shelters many souls. Believers of the Christian faith, if adhering to the scripture of the bible are governed to practice acts of empathy, compassion, kindness, selflessness, etc..Christians are supposed to reject judgment on one another, even though that is a trying task because mankind does it without effort. However, Christians believe that God created all in his image and we are all children of him. With that premise, it would be blasphemous to use such a faith to ones advantage. Political leaders tend to play on peoples emotions by using the power that Christianity holds against them by strong arming them to believe that if they do not follow them they are bad and in a sense rebelling against
Journal of Psychology and Christianity, “Use of Prayer and Scripture in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy” by Siang-Yang Tan discusses how prayer and scripture can be incorporated into the practice of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Expanded CBT described a historical process of behavior therapy that was divided into three generational movements and consisted of a gradual transition from traditional behavior therapy known as; Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and (DBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Tan, 2007, p. 101).
Who is Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ is the main child of god regardless of originating from a lady. He is the light that came to earth to clear up our way and our spirit. He is a man that strolled to earth the distance from Israel.
A simple, nice comment can make someone’s day. Jesus Christ made a difference in the world by choosing kind.
According to the Bible, salvation history is "The pattern of specific events in human history in which god clearly reveals his presence and saving actions.". Just like we have stories passed down our families, the stories of god are passed down throughout multiple centuries of humans. Us humans are part of what the church calls salvation history. It's stories of how gods saving hand worked. These stories showed that god has been a part of the lives of humans from the beginning. Most of gods salvation history was shown throughout the Old Testament. Divine revelation is one main part of salvation history. According to the bible, divine revelation is, "God himself communicating his divine plan for us.". God revealed his plan to save us
We place great emphases with the horizontal relationship and we try to do our best to keep those relationships in a healthy zone, but our vertical relationship must be kept up with as well.
The ministry of Jesus began when Jesus was 30 years old, after his baptism in the river Jordan. Within three and a half years of his ministry Jesus did more miracles than any man in the world could have accomplished. He preached about the ways of changing lives and often gave parables to educate people. Even though he was rejected Jesus continued to spread the gospel in different cities around Israel, including Capernaum and Bethsaida.
Christian Tradition course exposed me to the Christian Tradition based on Biblical and church history. The course taught me the differences and similarities of Christian Tradition from other major world religions. I learned about the significance of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Trinity based on the teachings of the Bible. The course also briefly covered 2,000 years of church history but with emphasis on the impact of the Council of Nicea, Council of Chalcedon, and John and Charles Wesley on Christianity. The professor emphasized the importance of the reformation that sparked a revolution in the church.
Perhaps one plans to someday come to God for salvation, but day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment they find that they are still waiting and approaching an eternal Hell, and turning away The Son of God. Just as it was Adams nature to run and try to hide from God, it is also mankind 's nature to do the same. One must come to know that it is essential to realize their helpless estate, that an eternity waits, that in this state one is the servant of sin, doomed, damned, and unable in oneself to come to Jesus for salvation. Sadly there is nothing that they can do. In fact, they are over two thousand years too late.
