I found a hip hop album listed on the website “all my life for sale”, read through the description, after which I compared the description to one I had found on “ebay”. The description on “all my life for sale” was mostly written in a subjective tone with only very few objective styled sentences. To start the description the seller wrote ” Some say that this record is the birth of hip hop” afterwords the seller concluded the sentence by explaining how he had come to find the record. One sentence stood out among the rest the seller wrote “What is great about early hip hop is that the underlying beats used to come from of hits of the day” this sentence is one of the only sentences that are written objectively. Along with the description there was a image of the album found on both …show more content…
The description I found on “ebay” was a mirror image of the “all my life for sale” description. Unlike the other one “ebays” description was focused on the facts about the album with only few personal opinions from the seller. For example the auctioneer wrote “The vinyl is in VG+ (very-good, or better) condition; visibly quite glossy and clean with some light, unobtrusive noise.” This statement did none other than state facts about the album, and the state of its condition. The seller balanced the description out by writing “An absolutely essential hip hop record from this legendary group.” Not only were the descriptions able to be identified as a subjective, objective or a combination of both, but I was also able to understand what audience both descriptions were

“All my Life for sale” is a name of a Book based on a master degree project of a man named John Freyer, who used the commercial public auction website E-Bay to sale nearly all of his possessions, including this book sold and auctioned in 2001.
Based on what I saw of All My Life for Sale, it seems that the goal is to make each item truly meaningful to whomever buys it, as well as turning the item itself into an art piece. In the photos, the items were posed purposefully in order to look appealing and well thought out. Each photo is accompanied by a short history of the item. These histories are a work of art on their own, poetically describing the item, what it means to it's current owner, and where it came from. All of the items on the site are pretty unique, in that there is usually only one of each item available. Overall, All My Life for Sale gave off the vibe of an online, hipster-esque art museum; each item it's own exhibit.
Although the origins of hip-hop music seem to begin in the USA, over a century before this West African musician told stories rhythmically, accompanied only by drums. Meanwhile in the Caribbean Islands, folk musicians were telling stories in rhyme – both were laying the foundations for modern day American rap music. The vocal style of rapping developed as people and artists at these block parties experimented with freestyle rhythmic speech over the top of percussive breaks, drawing inspiration from everyday topics and wider issues alike. The first notable rap artists included Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, DJ Kool Herc, Marley Marl and Doug E. Fresh, whilst ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by The Sugarhill
The origins of hip hop started in the late 70’s as a pastime that brought all the impoverished people of the projects together to have fun through. But decades later in the 90’s, people began to rap about many subjects ranging from the crack epidemic, hard life in the ghetto, or just having fun, but the underlying motive of rappers in this era was to reflect on their rough lifestyle through clever lyrics. The motive wasn’t for money, but recognition for their unique wordplay among the rap community. However, that all changed when record companies saw a financial opportunity in rappers, and rappers saw a financial opportunity through music. Due to the commercialization of hip hop, authenticity is rare to find in the mainstream

The hip-hop cultural movement has been divided into four categories: the 1970’s discovery of turntable sampling and the emergence of "Rapper’s Delight" from The Sugar Hill Gang; "The Old School" defined by Run-D.M.C.; The 1980’s Rapper’s of "Social Realism" dealing with the identification of racial issues within the urban lifestyle, expressed in lyrics by rappers such as Ice-T, Rakim, N.W.A. and LL Cool J; The present day commercial hip-hop centered around monopolized record labels sacrificing art for the benefit of commercial revenue, such as "No Limit Records." The hip-hop movement originated as an urban impulse using various elements of performance art to discover a cultural identity, which was usually deemed unacceptable by law enforcement officers. The culture adopted an "outlaw" image through graffiti art, breakdancing and DJ’s mixing samples at public party performances. The two most
Authenticity has been connected to hip-hop since the genre’s inception in the late 1970s. Have you ever seen a group of boys dancing together with some exciting and cool musical beat? Hip hop has a great impact on many African Americans as a cultural phenomenon. Subjective, or objective, perhaps both, using a Star Wars bed sheet for the subject along with two different sources to gain our information will form a comparison, a clear distinction between the styles of analysis. “All My Life”, written by John Freyer, along with the E-bay web site is where the data will be accumulated, same item, yet exceedingly different ways of letting their audience identify what’s for sale. John Freyer’s, work appears to be overwhelmingly subjective, emphasizing the personal history than the actual features of it. E-bay, unquestionably objective, with experienced sellers who are perspicuous with details in the description of the items, awards the buyer a distinct account of the seller’s merchandise. However, there’s only one link that unites them, they both provide the principal idea of what they are trying to sell which includes a full/queen size Star Wars sheet therefore I don’t believe this
