No gimmicks, no costumes, no makeup, no bs, just solid core rock music. Four guys, one band, Divide The Empire. Honesty comes natural for these Midwestern boys, the band describes their music "The music is at times dark, sometimes uplifting, but always honest." and this is what you will hear when listening to their latest album 'Three Winters, Volume II'.
The album begins with the song "Easy Way Out", which starts very melodic, however as the song continues the music and vocals pack more than a meaty, hearty punch. From guitar solos to angst filled vocals, this song is an indicator of what is to come with the rest of the album, unfiltered, pure rock n' roll. Lyrics infused with fuel to tell us stories about life itself, trudging through the trials and tribulations we all have encountered.

Who has been to a carnival or festival? A joyous occasion to most. Happiness in the beginning, however slightly monotonous and meticulous towards the end. In the song "Carnival Ride", the guitars clearly paint the sweet and sour mood for the song. However, the vocals are the real indicator of emotion in this song, which are filled with throaty, deep seated emotion when the lyrics are belted out, "I can't go on this carnival ride anymore. I forgot who I was and what I'm standing for." "Carnival Ride" is one of the most stand out songs on the album, the raw emotion cannot only be heard, but felt through the song
Take Me Out to The Ball Game is a song that elicits memories of when I was younger. My first MLB game I remember that Take Me Out to The Ball Game was playing when I walked through the hallway and saw my very first MLB game. Watching Yankee games on T.V I can hear that song playing in the background and I always think back to the day of my first MLB game or whenever I see a box of Crack Jack. Emotions such as excitement, competition, and pure happiness are the emotions that I replay through my mind whenever I hear that song. One product could be incorporate that song into baseball video games. Another would be to incorporate the words of the song onto the box of Cracker Jack, or onto other foods or drinks sold at baseball parks.
Luke Bryan who started his singing career at age fourteen chooses specific words to indicate the time period and makes it clear to identify the genre in his popular song “Play It Again” released in 2013. The repletion but also his way of saying certain words makes this song special and is straightforward for college students to understand poetry. In this song Luke Bran spots a tan legged girl who he finds attractive. Luke the instantly assumes she is taken because of her beauty. As they begin to carry on a conversation a song comes on she gets excited because her favorite song comes on and before he asked her to dance she took his hand and danced with him until the song cut off.
The Fray is an Alternative Pop Band, which generally does songs that have a sadder tone. One of their hit songs, “How to Save a Life”, is what I have analyzed. The songs overall mood is saddening, but it’s message is very strong. That message is you can’t always help people who aren’t helping themselves. It’s basically about someone trying to help a friend, but he doesn’t exactly know how. Many literary and hidden words and phrases are found scattered across the piece.
It is a sin for anyone to destroy, in a blink of an eye, what they have been working on for months or even years. Therefore, one should always face the hardships with a strong will, hold their head up high when facing an upcoming storm, because that is the only way they can survive the war that is life. Right towards the end of the song, there is an extremely empowering line that says “this road never looked so lonely, this house doesn’t burn down slowly to ashes” which stands as a reminder that right when the challenge becomes harder, one should never forget what they are fighting for and simply give up. The amount of determination reflected in this line is the reason why I listen to this song whenever I feel defeated by the obstacles. It comes to spark the flame of determination in my heart when I consider backing
The groups first album released after Jimmy Stokley’s forced departure was not one that the group enjoyed recording. All There Is was full of disco influence; a style that was being forced on many groups at the time. As a group that did not even like disco,
Through the beginning of the song Melanie begins to say, “feel like I'm glued on tight to this carousel” and as this song is about being stuck in an unhealthy relationship is it safe to say that Melanie feels she can not escape her feelings. This results in what should feel like an infinite loop of unreciprocated feelings that is shown through Melanie's careful choice of words. While expressing these feelings behind what is seen as an innocent childrens ride, Melanie reaches a larger dynamic of people that would otherwise look the other way about this kind of emotional wreckage resulting from a toxic relationship. Melanie's choice of imagery only positively affects the kind of message Melanie tries to get across coming from the very beginning of her
It highlights the struggles that are happening for people. There are some great guitar riffs and distortion. It has a verses/chorus composition. The song is a little bit slower to begin, but soon picks up the tempo, it is a great song to sing along because the lyrics are not distorted by the instruments, like you find with some other bands. This song was written by Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi, and Desmond Child.
Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in
‘No matter gay, straight, or bi, I was born to survive’. In the words of lady GaGa herself it doesn’t matter who you marry, what your gender is or what’s you race you just need to accept others and yourself. Lady GaGa’s song ‘Born this Way’ informs others about self-acceptance in her new album ‘Born this way’. This song is about people abusing others and reflecting badly on them self because of their race, gender and choice in who they marry. Lady GaGa expresses her thoughts about people’s issues to say it doesn’t matter who you are because you were born that way.
“If you came here to see spandex and big hair, this ain’t your band”, Metallica’s “war cry” throughout the early eighties. While the rest of the hard rock bands wanted to get rich and a lot of women, Metallica, as in the words of former lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, “Our hole existence pretty much was guitar, dominating the world and getting liquored up”.
The song I chose is a song sung by Martina McBride, a country singer, called Concrete Angel. The song was written by Rob Crosby and Stephanie Bentley, later released on November 18, 2002. The song is about a young girl, Angela Carter, who doesn’t have the most stable and safest home. At home she is domestically abused by her drugged mother, neglected and forced to take care of herself; she packs her own school lunch, walks to school by herself, and is wearing the same dress showing her mom does not care to give her new clothes. When watching the music video, in the beginning children are laughing at her, which shows she is bullied, another main theme tackled in the song. The bruises are seen by her teacher and the neighbors hear her
Next to play is “Happy Song” which the band leaked before the album’s full release. Reminiscent of Nirvana's “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in its catchy yet powerful message and female chorus chanting “S.P.I.R.I.T. Spirit, let's hear it”, this track is where the album’s name, That’s the Spirit, is born. This anthem speaks to unhappy rebels by drawing attention to how society uses superficial and trivial vices to ignore our real issues, and it does so

Concrete jungle Always stuck in this concrete jungle Always about to ring the bell People just run in a bundle Like demons running from hell Just have to focus On the birds singing their song Being drowned by the people that broke us And being told we are wrong The song is beautiful Being ignored from the man But nature is bountiful And I am such a fan
The song "The message" by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five depicts the struggle of young black adults growing up in society. The struggle to make it out of poverty can be compared to survival of the fittest in a jungle. Only the strong would survive and adapt to the changes to fit in. Trying their best to make a betterment with whatever little society offers. Being a young black African American in the early 1980's was not easy. It was easier to live the fast life and gain fast money by being part of the drug community. Drugs, guns, and money was glamorized and this is what the young adults looked at as a means of getting rich. In the songs, a young man talks about how he is trying hard to hold on to the little bit of sanity he has left in his soul. He talks about the struggle he endures while trying not to get pushed over the edge. He was born an innocent child who's blind to the ways of mind kind. Growing up he faced many challenges and had to fight
