Of Mice And Men is a Metalcore band, that was formed in 2009. They originated in Costa Mesa, California. Their fourth studio album Cold World is one of the most emotional and personal albums released by them. The Vocalist found inspiration for the songs written on the album through his own personal struggles he was facing. The first song on the album is Game Of War, this song has a strong steady drumbeat throughout it. They definitely started with a strong song that leaves anyones expectations for the rest of the album very high.
The last song of the album is Transfigured, this song is about how acceptance of flaws and issues is important. It also highlights how respect and empathy for others are extremely important. This song being about
The character in Of Mice and Men that is most similar to Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby is Curley. Curley and Tom Buchanan have many similarities throughout both books. These shared characteristics stem from one thing both men have an abundance of: privilege. Curley and Tom are easily two characters with the least amount of struggle in The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men.
Everyone has dreams, big and small. When one dreams, there is a scent of whimsical hope in the air mixed with the powerful drive for success to obtain their luminous goals. But, many times these luscious dreams end up in grief and pain instead of a promised joy due to the hurdles in life, such as the certain circumstances that society professes or the flaws in a person that restrains them from their aspirations. The writer, John Steinbeck, incorporates this ideology in his novella, Of Mice and Men by creating three pivotal characters. Lennie, Crooks, and George all have schemes that go wrong, and yet hope to illustrate their desires of fulfilling their American Dream and to be prosperous for their own independent purposes.
“Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen." John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, introduced this concept of once one starts theoretical thinking, it can go on forever. This quote correlates to the American colonists' separation from Britain and formation of the United States because once they read ideas from authors such as Locke, Diderot, and Montesquieu, the colonist began to start thinking and creating their own thoughts about the government and how to improve it. The time was the 1760’s to the 1780’s and the American colonies were being taken advantage of by the British. Writers from France and Britain were making trying to change the government by writing how to fix
The life of a worker during the Great Depression and the importance of dreams are two of many topics explored in the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This story follows George and Lennie, two unlikely companions, and examines what it was like for them during the Great Depression, as well as some other types of people.
Scenario by A Tribe Called Quest is a song that gets someone excited for a journey. It most recognizable part, the chorus, says “Here we go yo, Here we go yo, so what’s the scenario?” The reminds me of Santiago getting ready to begin his journey and the reader thinks to themself “Here we go.” Also the mentioned “Scenario” can symbolise Santiago’s preparation to face anything that could possibly be coming ahead of him in this adventure. At first listen, “Breezeblocks” seems like an ordinary “trip-folk” style of music by the foursome also known as Alt-j, but if you listen closer it is discernible that the lyrics go much deeper into the psyche of someone deeply in love and what happens when the love is not reciprocated.
An author writes to be heard. Their communication is purposeful, and an author who is truly in touch with the art of fiction evokes emotions in the reader throughout their work. These moods, or tones, are not used simply for the sake of being used, but rather in the hopes of moving the reader to think and realize essential messages about life. In the case of John Steinbeck, the tones of his short novel Of Mice and Men can be said to be a triumphant hope accompanying dreams, along with a terrifying hesitancy and fear of obstacles and defeat. The reluctance to fail becomes evident from the start of the story, and endures as the piece develops. On occasion, the elation of conquest and success
Love can be defined as an intense feeling of deep affection (Google). However, love cannot be confined into one type. There are many different types of love that are exhibited by human behavior: true love, infatuation, and lust. The previously stated expressions of love have been implemented in various pieces of writing. True love can be felt and interpreted in many different ways; whether it is for a significant other or your closest friends.
Music has played a large role in my life for some time, now. My musical interests vary, greatly as I try to appreciate each and every song equally. I believe this because I know that each artist creates this work of art which takes a great deal of time and effort. With that being said my ten songs, for the most part, a bit different from one another, but they are each very special to me in their own way. I would place these songs in the ‘indie’ category. My older sisters introduced me to this genre of music at a young age. I appreciate them for this because I would not listen or know the songs I cherish now, without them exposing it to me. I chose these songs because of that reason. Both of my sisters, Cristine and Gabriela, have been great
Of Mice and Men has many recurring themes and motifs. One of them is the idea of male friendship. This theme is mostly developed vicariously through the relationship between George and Lennie. It’s shown to be complicated, since they’re dependent on each other, but they cause problems for each other as well, and it sets them apart from the others on the ranch.Lennie and George are dependent on one another. George has taken care of Lenniesince Aunt Clara’s death. In Chapter 1, Lennie talks of living on his own in a cave but George counters that by saying “Yeah? How’d you eat? You ain’t got sense enough to find nothing to eat” (Steinbeck 16). Lennie’s mental disability prevents him from being able to live in his own. In addition to that, George functions as a parental figure or role model for Lennie. This is evidenced by how Lennie tends to imitate George’s actions and is fixated on not disappointing George. On the other hand, George is also dependent on Lennie for companionship and optimism. While talking about the dream, He finishes by saying “You jus’ let ‘em try to get the rabbits. I’ll break their God damn necks. I’ll...I’ll smash ‘em with a stick’ He subsided, grumbling to himself, threatening the future cats which might dare to disturb the future rabbits. George sat entranced with his own picture.” (Steinbeck 61). This represents how George is protective of Lennie and their future together. The rabbits are symbols for Lennie and the future ranch.George
John Williams composition of the official theme song for the soundtrack of the movie “Schindler’s List” is a powerful classical music that would drown you into a world of despair. It is very beautiful and authentic yet utterly dreadful and haunting. The mood that the song sets embodies all ethereal aspects of emotions that anyone can probably think of. This is the type of track that makes you want to simply listen no matter what you are doing. Listening to the song composition takes you in to a whole new dimension. It grows fear, sadness, despair, anger, and the urge to just cry as it unmistakably sets a very gloomy and dark frame of mind which arouses all the despondencies that you want to poor out in desolation. It is basically a bravura combination of different feelings that touches the soul.
“Tale of Two Citiez” by J Cole is a song featured in his 2015 album “ Forest Hill Drive”.The song is inspired by the book “Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens, the book is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution some of the themes that the novel focuses on is the conflict between rich and poor. In an interview with Tavis Smiley Cole explains how the song compares two side of Fayetteville; the more prosperous area Forest Hill Drive opposed to the crime-ridden inner city area. In the song Cole speaks about dealing with peer pressure in living in a crime ridden place and trying to find a way out. In Monster, Steve is dealing with living in a crime ridden neighborhood where most kids around his age are into drugs,
Soledad; salubrious and like paradise in terms of setting but the complete opposite for its friendless, despondent characters who are sick of their provincial lives. Loneliness is the feeling of isolation and no hope or dreams in your life-which is what Steinbeck achieves by portraying this theme effectively through key fictional characters in Of Mice and Men. By living in the town of ‘Soledad’ (Spanish for loneliness), the audience gets an overwhelming sense of the depressing environment that the migrant farmers are living through by their repetitive lifestyle and the consequences they face through the Great Depression and the Dustbowl. Yet another aspect of loneliness which is exposed vulnerably through several characters is the idea of the American Dream, for Steinbeck teaches us that even through hard work and prosperity, it is unattainable which is represented by Curley’s wife, Crooks, Candy and George and Lennie. These personas are left in isolation for as George says that ‘Guys like us that work on ranches are the loneliest guys in the world. They don’t belong no place…’ which is to say that these characters have lost all hope in their lives, which Steinbeck conveys effectively, and the fact that despite this, they still believe there is hope to come for them, which leaves me to sympathise for them more.
The song of songs it is a well-known but not so well understood book of the Bible, it’s 8 chapters of love poetry and while there are an introduction and a conclusion, the book doesn’t have any kind of rigid literary design and that’s because it is a collection of poems. They are not meant to be dissected or taken apart. They are meant to be read as a flowing whole and simply enjoyed. The first line of the book tells us that it is “the song of songs” which is a Hebrew idiom like, “the holy of holies” or “the king of kings” it is a Hebrew way of saying, “the greatest thing,” this is the greatest song of all songs. We are told in the first line that this “song of songs” is of Solomon, which could mean that he is the author, his name does begin the book after all. But as I read the poems, I discover that the main voice of a woman, called “the beloved.” And while there is also a male voice, it does not seem to be Solomon. Solomon is mentioned a couple times in the poem, but he’s never a speaker, and you do have to admit Solomon is a very strange candidate as the author of this book, given the facts that he seven hundred wines. The “of Solomon” likely means “in the wisdom tradition of Solomon,” he was known for his wisdom, his poetry, his love of learning about every part of life. Also, Solomon became the father of wisdom literature in Israel, his legacy is here carried on, through a collection of love poems that explore the human experience of love and sexual desire. The opening
In life we are part of many roles that create dangers we face that may lie beyond our understanding. Even though these roles are hard to understand, they can give meaning to our life. In John 's Steinbeck "Of Mice and Men," we see these men 's day to day lives, the main character; George takes care of his friend Lennie who has difficulties understanding the rules of the world we live in. Through the story there are many ups and downs mostly involving Lennie, who is trying to see through the eyes of George and to do and be as George is. For this reason George is constantly trying to think of what is best for Lennie. Through all of this they face even more dangers and still try to find a way to raise money for a farm to
