In the lyrics of the song Ex’s and Oh’s by Elle King, it tells about a woman turning a boy into a man by showing him things that he didn’t understand. Then she releases him back into the world being done with him completely. The woman seems to do this with a lot of these partners of hers for she is constantly on the run from her previous boyfriends. This is so common with the woman, she describes the commonality of breaking hearts to heads rolling on the floor. Her ex’s would climb mountains and sail the seas just to get back together with her. In the video of the song, she begins leaving one of these guys stranded in the middle of a desert. Then she drives off to this encampment of men models who are very muscular and teases them like
If you had to make a choice with nothing to choose from, how could you choose? Would your choice be the right decision since their is no guideline to your future? Listening to music can relieve stress and even a provide a guideline to the right choices. In the book The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton, the Curtis brothers and other greasers have difficult choices they encounter that relate their life to the song "Give Me Back My Hometown" by Eric Church. The song relates to the actions of the boys, the dreams the greasers have of becoming better, and the need to own the streets in their area.
In the year of 2005, Kanye West released his second album of that year, “Late Registration,” containing one of his biggest hits. The song “Gold Digger” is about how rich men must always be on guard of women who will manipulate and lie their way into a man's life explicitly for money and possibly fame. “Gold Digger,” being one of his most popular songs, peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song received 13 nominations for awards and won 4 different awards, one being a Grammy for best solo rap performance. Stereotypical Chains “What a Good Boy” by Barenaked Ladies is a song about expectations, and how these preconceived expectations can hold somebody down from being themselves, and weigh them down so much they find themselves in anguish. These pressures can come from anyone, from teachers, coaches, parents, friends, religion, or even ourselves. This song also deals with how scary it is to be yourselves in today’s society, and how difficult it is to avoid being what everyone expects you to be. While listening to this song for the first time, I didn’t come to the same conclusion as many of the other students in class. The song to me showed a struggling boy, who loved someone very dearly, but couldn’t be with them due to society, his family,
I think the first piece that I looked at was “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks was well thought out song. Honestly when I looked at the title I was not sure what the song could have consisted of. In present day, most us are taught at a young age that some words speak are not good. But I opened up the song and listened. The song signifies to me and impact of courage and the strength to push through. Even though times may have been difficult for the singer or individuals at home. The overall message I gathered was a message that exemplified the meaning of courage. I believe Meredith was not only discussing what was going on through her life, but furthermore, trying to make a connection to others listening at home. In her song she sung the words “I’m
“I’ll Be Missing You” is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R&B group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who many may also know him as ‘Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G.’ He was gunned down and murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff Daddy and Wallace’s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out as a tribute to Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected.
In "Girl" I wanted to look at the way Caribbean women are portrayed by class and what they do, by doing this I want to look at how Kinkaid uses the words slut, lady, and walking. We can see how Caribbean women think of themselves and how they strive to become ladies, "On Sundays try to walk like a lady and not like a slut you are so bent on becoming"(Kinkaid, 185) . Looking at this we can see how the Caribbean culture causes women to view themselves. We see and learn in this short reading by Jamaica Kincaid how Caribbean women are raised to become wives by the way the words lady and slut are used. Slut and lady are repeated many times together in sentences through out the story. Kinkaid uses the word lady in a way to show a higher class where
Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in
Plot elemenets The song “Hello” by Adele has sayings in the song that can be linked to the exposition in the book Legend Marie Lu. In the exposition of the book you are introduced to two very different people. The first is Day. Day is a boy from the Lake sector a poor sector of Los Angeles.
During the early ages of rock and roll, it was common practice for Caucasian musicians to create covers of some well know R&B musicians’ song. Some of these songs were in some way very similar to the original in copying tempo and the lyrics. However, there were many cover that seem similar but the change made the song a work of its own. A song that I believe represent this is “I got a woman”, Originally released in 1995 by Ray Charles and covered by Elvis Presley in 1956.
I chose the song “She used to be mine” by Sara Bareilles, because it describes many people in this world. When the song states, “ She's imperfect, but she tries,” this means that even though she is not perfect, she at least tries. I believe that nobody's perfect, but especially me. I am most certainly not perfect at all, but I atleast try my best. This song describes many people all around this world.
The song Team written by Lorde was released in 2013. The song has to do with teenagers and their struggle of coming with age and is also describing a war that is occurring between two kingdoms. The two kingdoms that are fighting is your inner self and your age. Many people struggle with accepting the fact that they are getting older. Getting older means that you will have to have more responsibilities, conquer inner demons, come to terms with who you are etc.
The song “Royals” was released in 2013 by the artist Lorde. “Royals” was one of the first songs released by this artist and it was in her album titled Pure Heroin. “Royals” became Lorde’s first major hit as it dominated the pop genre chart. After listening to and interpreting the song "Royals," I argue that the theme of the song is focused on the way the songwriter views wealth and how her viewpoint contrasts with that of society. The songwriter emphasizes her indifference toward wealth and all that it can afford, while others hold wealth to a high esteem.

This song shows Gillespie and Parker in fine form on a medium rhythm AABA piece. Gillespie matches, and seemingly outplays Parker. When they perform together they seem to express the tune with a single “voice”. Gillespie is the leader of this session. "Hot House" is based on the chord changes to "What is This Thing Called Love," a song written by Cole Porter.
