The song “My Best Friend” is sung by an American Country singer named Tim McGraw. This song is about a guy who had a miserable life until he found the right girl. He describes the girl as a lover, life partner, and best friend.
Tim McGraw’s song represents what Yale psychologist Robert Sternberg would call consummate love. To him, “Consummate, or complete love, results when all three components are present” (Sternberg 134). In this type of love the couple is happy because they have passion, intimacy, and commitment in their relationship.
McGraw sings about his girl, “When we touch/And oh the look in your eyes/When we make love”. Passion is clearly present in their relationship because they have sexual attractions toward each other. Intimacy
Robin Thicke’s music video to his song “Blurred Lines” avidly contributes to the patriarchy, while portraying sexism, gender standards, and beauty standards. His music video can be analyzed from a feminist theory approach, as it’s evident that his song and video contribute to a patriarchal society and its inherently sexist and sexualized ideologies. The ideology behind the song and music video is purely sexual and about male dominance. The lyrics to the song and actions in the video exhibit extreme over sexualization and objectification of the women. Analyzing this piece of popular culture through a feminist approach opens up a provoking conversation about how popular culture functions in a patriarchal culture. Analyzing pop culture though a feminist theory can allow for a larger variety and more in-depth analysis about the social aspects and political agenda within popular culture.
I have chosen a song that I would say is a country song. It is actually a song that I have known for many years and that I actually taken ato. This song would be “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown. In this song, Brown sings about things such as enjoying his evenings with family and getting to dine on his favorite meals, being raised in the South, and giving thanks to God and the people who fought for the freedom of our nation. In the chorus, he is described to the listener that he is with his family, and presumably friends as well, enjoying each other’s company on a Friday night. He also explained getting to eat some fried chicken, drink beer, and listen to the radio. He then mentions that he was born and raised in Georgia Pine. Then in the next
If you had to make a choice with nothing to choose from, how could you choose? Would your choice be the right decision since their is no guideline to your future? Listening to music can relieve stress and even a provide a guideline to the right choices. In the book The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton, the Curtis brothers and other greasers have difficult choices they encounter that relate their life to the song "Give Me Back My Hometown" by Eric Church. The song relates to the actions of the boys, the dreams the greasers have of becoming better, and the need to own the streets in their area.
the lovers eventually come to a point where they can no longer be without one another.
George Strait, the king of country music, opened the largest concert in North American history by singing a tribute to our fundamental view of love. The song introduces this story of a young girl, who radically changes a young boy’s world by her love. The opening verse introduces
Music is an art. It is combined in a way to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expressing of emotion; the lyrics help you connect and cope with certain situations you’re experiencing. I chose to analyze the country song, “Good In Goodbye” by Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood wrote this song for a past love whom she sees years later outside a restaurant they used to go to and recalls the good in her heartache and pain. This song is very close to my heart, it helped me when I was going through a heartbreak. I now realize why this song’s meaning is worth knowing. Country music’s atmosphere is mostly nostalgic and it always has a great message or a life lesson behind it.
We all cope with pain differently, but we often have one solution in common: over thinking. Where did I go wrong? Why did this happen? Is it really my fault? All of these questions echo through our mind when something in our lives turns sour; especially when it is a relationship. Love and loss can lead to loneliness. When combined, these ideas become the ultimate weapon to destroy someone from the inside out. As a result, we long for reconciliation and answers from the person with whom we’ve split. Numerous songs have been written based off of this premise. Elvis Presley’s popular hit “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” captures the ideas of love, loss, longing and loneliness. Presley presents himself in a vulnerable state and puts his inner thoughts into melodic verses. He questions if his sweetheart is just as devastated by their separation. Presley’s unique comparisons
Passion reflects attraction, romance, and sexual desire. A relationship that contains passion would not be a relationship that you would share with you parents or children. This is more to describe a romantic relationship that you share with another person. According to Sternberg (1998) “The key ingredients
This is quite the contrary from the relationship between Song Liling and Rene Gallimard in M. Butterfly or Anna and Gourav in The Lady With The Pet Dog. Despite the sex differences between in M. Butterfly, the couples in both stories truly love each other as they both emotionally, physically, and spiritually satisfy each other. There is no satisfaction or
The song, “Last Kiss” by the band Pearl Jam represents when Daisy hit Myrtle while driving Gatsby’s car. The band sings, “I couldn’t stop so I swerved to the right“ (9), which resembles Daisy’s inability to stop the car before she hit Myrtle with it. Daisy was driving recklessly because she was upset with the events that happened earlier in the city, and she wasn’t able to handle the vehicle properly. The song continues, “I’ll never forget the sound that night/ The screaming tires, the busting glass” (10-11).

I chose “Humble and Kind,” by Tim McGraw as my theme song. “Humble and Kind” is a very good song that has very unique lyrics. The song gives advice on how to live. There are many manners in this song that are very important. The song is a parent telling their child how they should live life. It seems that the artist wrote the song on how he wishes he would have acted when he was younger. One of the main messages of this song are that everyone has something in their lives, but you still need to be nice. Some of the lyrics on the song are about the 10 Commandments. Even though we grow up, we still need to remember our manners and how to live life. “Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why Bitterness keeps you from flying.” This is an example
The message of “Who You Love” is a ※ballad about accepting falling in love with someone. Mayer stated his relationship with Perry has been a private and "human" one. On writing the song, Mayer said: “Who You Love" is a sweet melody that tells the story of opening your heart up and allowing yourself to fully love the person in your life—or specifically to "love who you love, who you love." It was a really great experience. This song is talk about searching for love.
John Legend wrote “All of Me” for his fiancée, Chrissy Teigen. There is no doubt that the song was for her. The whole song is about love and about giving up something, to gain so much more. This song consists of the couple loving each other and understanding sometimes things are hard and will not always make sense. But they also know that if they persevere through those hard times they will be unstoppable.
Don't look at me is the first line of Christina Aguilera's song "Beautiful." This instant whisper from the voice of Aguilera creates an ashamed vibe for the song. It is spoken quietly and without any musical instrumentation. As the music softly and brilliantly builds up to the first verse listener's already have a misinterpretation of the lyrics. The audience presumes that the song will be about depression or shame and disgrace because one would associate not wanting people to look at you with shame. However, once they read more into the lyrics they notice that the meaning of the song is much deeper than shame and actually has an opposite message. When the audience hears the title of the song they could
