Sonia Sotomayor is a women full of many talents and accomplishments. In her book, My Beloved World, Sonia reveals many people, circumstances, hardships, and successfulness. Sonia has embraces many characteristics in which I can relate. Successfulness, determination, and the importance of learning are all crucial elements that make Sonia into the inspiring woman she is today. Relating to Sonia Sotomayor throughout her book allowed me to remain intrigued in the book and helped apply concepts to my everyday life. We as human beings all strive for success. We use success as a measure of everyday life.
“After a time you may recognize the proper measure of success is not how much you’ve closed the distance to some far-off goal but the quality of what you’ve done today” (Sotomayor Preface). Every person has their definition and view of success, but I believe Sonia Sotomayor stated a quality point in how we self-reflect on our lives. I believe finding success in the little things will push me farther along my path toward my ultimate goals. I also believe we all admire someone who we perceive to be successful. Throughout Sonia Sotomayor’s book there

Sonia describes Miss Katz as a being a different teacher from any other teacher she has had before. She found an importance in not getting stuck in routine learning. Miss Katz motivated her students to challenge themselves. She made the impression of being an educator, but still educating herself. She saw the importance of being a life-long learner. This concept is very applicable and relatable to my future career as an educator. I must always remember to remain a life-long learner. Not only can I apply this concept to my future career, but also my current college experience. Every day I wake up and feel unmotivated and discouraged I can remember to push through because my education is
People have heard of the American Dream. The American Dream is your typical “rags to riches” story, where someone from an impoverished city living under atrocious, or flagrant conditions makes their dreams come true and enhances their lives. Sonia Sotomayor is an example of this American Dream. Mrs. Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and only the third woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court as an Associate Justice.
Success is a relative term. To a wealthy CEO, success is making his business one million in sales that day. To a child living on the streets, eating dinner that day is a success. What someone might not see though is that the child can teach the businessman a thing or two about about how to live life: humility. Realising that there is more to life than monetary gains, some people just need to appreciate meeting their basic needs. Furthermore, this easy lesson of humility provides the people living in wealth with a sense of how privileged they are.
Everybody has adversities in life and they are hard to cope with the story of Sonia Sotomayor and how she dealt adversity and how she resolved adversity.Sonia Sotomayor grew up in a bad environment she was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of seven and she had a overworked mother and an alcoholic father. She grew learning how to do things on her own it states in the article that Sonia Sotomayor on her morning routine made breakfast,Brushed her teeth, then pulled up a chair up to the stove to boil water and sterilize a syringe and needle, and injecting herself before leaving home.So she learned and became independent because she had no one to help her with her life and because of that she succeeded on her own without anyones help.
Success becomes in different forms, to be able to overcome obstacles that get in your way, just don’t give in, and stop, continue and ask question of what can I do to become the best that I want to be. It is a goal and also inspiration to say the word I have succeed. No one can conquer your dream but you and yourself.” The never ending words of Martin Luther King I have a dream”(Sehgal 2016) and this dream can come true for
When trying to define the word success we can find other words with similar meanings. Words that can be used almost interchangeably with success, one such word is accomplish. Success and accomplish both indicate the end of a journey, a point that took a great deal of effort to reach. On the other hand, there is also an important difference in the two words. The word success in indicative of a good outcome, something that is happy.
In the eyes of people all around the world, success is viewed as how much wealth and items an individual has. Rose Mary, a pursuer in being a fashion designer, nevertheless, is successful due to her drive and motivation to reach her goal. When asked how she personally defines success, Rose Mary replied, “Having a hard work ethic and being determined to reach your life goal, no matter how far it may seem, as long as you push through the obstacles, and your happy with your results.” Cleary, Mary’s views success as being pleased for all the hard work you have done to get where you are at even though the goal may not have been yet. Also, when asked about what are her habits that help her succeed, Mary stated, “having a good time management, big
Success is, in many ways, a branch of perspective, and yet societal norms seem to dictate what many view as success. Through my personal experience, and through the reading of Frederick Douglas I believe that the idea of personal success in correlation with perspective is a subject worthy of debate. Dissecting the difference of what many view as success and what may actually be success is essential for growth personally, and for people collectively. For example; currently many in our society view success as the acquisition of a copious monetary status, usually preceded, or followed by recognition for actions, ideas, etc… whether or not one views these actions or ideas worthy of widespread recognition(IE, success of socialites who may have not actually contributed to their own success). Many would believe that figures such as Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, who are viewed as successful women, are successful based on who they are, instead of what they’ve done, while others believe these women are role models for business and personal marketing in the 21st century. I myself believe that success is not based on how any group views you, but on how you view yourself, and measure your own success; based on where you started in life, your goals, and your level of pride in your actions.
Success is a subject that we Americans do not take lightly, and we seek success in various corners of our lives. On a more personal level, individuals try to establish successful careers, relationships, family statuses, and living situations. What good is a nice home without the perfect job, or the perfect job without the reliable connections with those close to you? America has made the objective of success our leading foot in the world, because without it, our self worth goes down rapidly. We continuously pride ourselves in being successful and leading lives that is fruitful of said success.
As a matter of fact, someone who tries their best to get where they are now, is what I call a success. Even if they work at McDonalds, if that person is trying their very best, then they are successful. That job at McDonalds is not a great job, but if that person is trying their best, and that is the best job that they can get, then they are successful. Even with grades, if someone tries their best to get the grades that they have, they are successful, because not everyone can be an awesome student. Nonetheless, anyone who is trying their best in whatever they are doing they are successful.
One’s success depends on their desire and ambition to accomplish their goals. Ambition is a powerful force, that determines the capability of an individual. Success can be defined differently for every individual being that everyone wants to be successful at different things, for me, success means accomplishing something that I have set my mind to. As suggested in Bob Hicok’s poem Prodigal, individuals are capable of anything their ambitions allow, regardless of their so called starting point. This notion is what gives myself, and others hope in living the best version of life.
My definition of success is to work hard so you can live the life you truly want and deserve, so you can fulfil your satisfaction with loved ones without ever saying the words “I Give up”. You can have everything you see on television, but you can’t have it without putting the work in. Everyone measures success as money and power, but there’s many rich people in this world that are not truly happy. Money, cars, clothes doesn’t mean anything after you buy it. You can have a successful job, but those you surround yourself with makes your life even better; They’re one of the main reasons why your happy. What’s the point of having everything if you cant share it with the ones that are there for you. Legendary basketball coach John wooden once said
The art form of achieving pure success only goes to the person that jumps through hurtles to reach their goals. Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, or the attainment of popularity or purpose. Leonardo DiCaprio exclaims, “Be thankful for the hard times, for they have made you”. This argues that success is not measured on fame, but on the journey it took to reach that success. Even cashing a check and coming back after a loss, or a decision that could end your close relationship with your daughter forever, are forms of success.
In todays world, mainstream marketing and media have us all influenced and brainwashed into believing a fake, even threatening definition of success. Making most humans believe having a great house, a quick vehicle, and being financial stable with complete freedom is the American dream. However, there are great numbers of success that do not list any of these. It does not take material goods to have success. Success is hitched with happiness because they are both extremely personal. Accurate success takes admiration, thanks, honor, and patience-which are all attributes that by nature are harder to attain-mostly in the shadow of todays marketers that constantly cheat us, control out thoughts, and steal our freedom to build their bottom line.
A large portion of one’s life is spent working to be successful. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. For some, success is measured by wealth and your social status; for others success is determined by how happy you are. I believe success is all about reaching goals and being happy. A successful life can only be obtained by pursing your passion, maintaining healthy relationships, and putting self-approval over the approval of others.
Succeeding in one’s goal is something that we all try to do but many find ourselves living
