While growing up I was enrolled in three different schools during High School. Freshman year I was enrolled in Lockhart, TX. I made some really good friends there. Sophomore Year my family and I moved back to Yoakum, TX. I was pretty much raised in Yoakum I have friends from kindergarten in that town. My godson lives in Yoakum. Before the end of Sophomore year, we moved to good ole Huntsville, TX. My fiancé and his family are from towns surrounding Huntsville. If it were not for social media, like Facebook, I would not be able to keep up with half the people I know. I believe social media can bring people together. Not only are you able to reach out to people you know but, you can people with your experiences. In the article Get Over It, Jarvis
In the article, “Get Over It”, by Jeff Jarvis, he discusses the importance of social media and being public about certain actions. Some people do not realize the benefits of social media and how it can bring a community together. For example, “We are sharing because it brings benefit. We meet people, make friends and stay connected. We spread ideas. We get attention. We gather information. We gain trust through transparency” (431). Jarvis is attempting to convey a message alerting the public that through the sharing of knowledge and moments in one’s life can evoke relationships among people and build a
There is no doubt that there are advantages to social media. Social media can be used to communicate with people from far distances, in the article the narrator explains “Great thing about these platforms is that they allow us to participate in each other’s lives
Over the past few months, but especially in recent days with the inauguration of president elect Donald J. Trump rapidly approaching, many of us students have begun to question our safety and our leadership’s concern for our safety on this campus, as have our families back home. When individuals no longer feel a sense of personal safety, academics and academic performance can no longer be a priority. Discrimination based on bias can escalate beyond rhetoric and into acts of violence. History has proven to be a solid reference.
Social media hinders individuals in a very destructive. It leads to addiction and isolation within a society. In my opinion, it is a way to portray ourselves different in order to be seen in a new light or identity. It is a need for acceptance. Thus, it is not aiding us in reaching the good life; it is just building up a façade. We need personal interaction to find and embrace strong relationships. In my view, Relationships are a source of fulfillment in our life. We are able to share experiences that could not be otherwise share through a screen. Consequently, a good life cannot be reach if social media hinders us in our everyday
It's allows people to express who they are. Not everyone can express themselves, social media allows a person to be themselves in addition, social media allows people to have more privilege to convey who they are. Social media makes it easier to demonstrate who the real are.
According to Wallaces text, “ ‘they believe that social media helps their friendships, makes them feel more outgoing and gives them confidence,’” stated by common sense media’s director of digital media , this comes to show that one of the main purposes of social media, is making a drastic change in friendships, and that connecting and socializing online can help to make new friends and even connect with older ones, boosting the users' confidence and feel more outgoing and
Social media allows us to connect to people all across the world. It allows us to stay connected to friends and family who are far away and people who are somewhat close that you may not see often. For example
Human beings need to feel connected with family and friends to provide us with the needed emotional support (Harris). Social media offers an easy way to stay in connected with many different types of people. We can stay connected with others regardless of where they live. It is being used in many different ways, such as socializing, exchanging ideas, sharing creativity, and collaborating with others.
As much as social media has managed to ruin our society, it plays a positive role for the public as well. Social media allowed people to use their networks as a form of reaching out to old friends and family across the world. With America being known as the melting pot of the world, our society has several people with family on the other side of the Earth. With social media in effect, this permits people to stay in touch with long lost loved ones and keep ties tight. Not only has it sanctioned friends and family to keep in touches but has granted people to relocate birth parents and unknown family members as well. Yes, social media has failed our society greatly but there is always a rainbow somewhere after a rainy day. Social media can play a positive role by bringing people back together.
Some arguments have been made in favor of social media, but most are based on logical fallacies. According to the article “Study Redeems Social Networking”, “What’s more, as use of SNS (social networking sites) has increased, the average number of Americans with close personal confidants has also gone up, from 1.93 close personal confidants in 2008 to 2.16 in 2011.” Even if we assume that the statistics about the increase in the average number of personal confidants are true; the statement is still incorrect. It’s wrong because the writer of the article is assuming that social media caused the rise in the average number of personal confidants; this is an example of the ‘correlation implies causation’ fallacy.
Social media has guided us to believe that we need to be connected to others. “…the social media revolution has not made us feel more connected, less lonely, or replete with friends” (Barna Group). Social media has input certain beliefs into the minds of people while also taking away that time that could be spent with friends and family. Social media has allowed people to put on fronts and believe that these are the only means of communication.
Have you ever had a good or bad experience with social media? Have you ever been a part of a protest that was started on social media? I think that social media is a good thing because you can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends. Things like Facebook are so convenient to talk with friends or family without that we would need to call them and that is just so much harder to do then
Social media makes it easy for people to communicate and interact with each other anytime anywhere in the world. People can stay connect to their families and loved ones no matter how far they are from each other. That ability to
One of the distinct benefit of social media is social media helps us to build relationship with new people. We could meet with new people who have the same interests as us and that could be the starting point of a great friendship and/or relationship ( Carlos Vieira, n.d. ). This is because social
Some of the top benefits of social media over the years are that it is free to anyone, the content can get out to resources virtually immediately, and it can be delivered to a wide variety of people. For these reasons, communication through social media has become an extremely accessible and convenient way to communicate. It is also popular for those who need to be in contact with others. One example that comes to mind is a teenager who goes away on a trip to visit a friend or family. They can be hundreds of miles away but still talk to their parents as if they weren’t. Another example is a person who is shy and has a hard time making friends face-to-face, social media sites are a great way to meet people and build relationships.
