1. Soul Surfer takes place in Kauai, Hawaii. In the story, the main character-Bethany Hamilton- is an extremely talented surfer. Her whole life basically revolved around surfing, she loved it more than anything else in the world. Bethany spent most of her time in the water, either practicing or competing. Until one day during a practice session with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, something tragic occurred. Bethany was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark. Alana, and her father and brother rushed Bethany to the hospital, in fear that she might die. Rather than going to Mexico with her youth group, Bethany chose to stay home and surf. This is when she was attacked by the shark.
3. I did enjoy the book Soul Surfer. It was a very inspirational, touching story. I was inspired greatly by Bethany Hamilton’s courage and will to accomplish her dreams, despite the challenge. I was touched by her story, and how she overcame her obstacles with the help of God. The book was told from a first person point of view. I liked this a lot, because it allowed the reader to fully understand Bethany’s emotions towards what was happening. From another person’s point of view, Bethany seemed like she was feeling fine, and recovering well, but on the inside she really wasn’t. This was the right point of view to tell such a story that involved so many hidden emotions.

Bethany Hamilton shows resilience in many ways because she did not give up when she got bit by the shark, she showed bravery towards the other amputees, and she was an amputee pro surfer. She is a courageous in what she does. She has other amputees looking up to her in a very special way. Bethany wants other to not let being an amputee push them away from doing what they love. Bethany loves what she does.

Bethany was surfing with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, along with Alana's dad and brother in a place known as "The Tunnels" or Tunnels Beach which is located on the North Shore of Kauai. Bethany was laying on her surfboard with her left arm dangling in the water, when out of the blue the shark attacked her and took her arm almost to her armpit. The remainder of the movie shows how Bethany coped with her injury with the help of her community, as well as her re-learning how to surf and go through her daily life as normal as possible. It is a hard one. I suppose in terms of the emotions and the fact that it was true to real life in a lot of ways--Beach Lane which came midway through the series and actually involved characters--except for Mick and others who are ongoing--it involves characters we're not even going to see in the TV show at this point. The emotional depth and because of what is going on between those particular characters I thought was a really strong book. The other one, again which we're not going to get to any time soon although it's earlier in the series, is the book in which Mick and Megan finally get back together which was in A Chesapeake Shores Christmas. One day she was laying there mesmerizing, and all of a sudden the flashing of her watch or something attracted the 15ft tiger shark. When the shark seen the flashing, it then came up from the depth of the sea and bit her arm off, and left her surf board with the imprint of the sharks bite. While the shark was attacking she called out for help and her dad showed up tied her up and pulled her to the beach to safety. There she and her dad waited to the ambulance got there. Despite the devastating attack, Bethany Hamilton showed great resilience in achieving her dream for surfing.

Once they got to the beach everything was calm and the waves were silent. Bethany and Alaina both got in the water quickly. They looked at each other wondering who will catch the first wave. A few moments later, Bethany gets pulled under water. A shark had attacked Bethany. Alana is in shock and doesn't know what to do. This creates such a thrilling part in the fim for the audience. The film gives very graphic detail on when the shark attacked Bethany. It created suspense whether she was going to live or die. Soon after being shocked, Alana swims up to Bethany and gets her on the board. Pulling her as hard as she can to get her back onto the shore. Everywhere Alana looks it's full of red. Once Alana gets onto shore she calls 911 right away. The film does a terrific job making this tragedy seem real. Soon after, Bethany is in the ambulance.
