“Soul Surfer” is a film based on a true story on a typical 13 year old girl named, Bethany Hamilton played by AnnaSophia Robb. Bethany is born and raised in Hawaii. This story shows a remarkable true event that occurred in the water causing Bethany to lose her arm.
Bethany was born to surf and had a natural talent for surfing and was participating in national surf competitions in Hawaii with her best friend she has grown up with, Alana Blanchard played by Lorraine Nicholson in the film.
On Halloween morning, Bethany and her best friend Alana along with her father, Holt and her brother, Bryon all go surfing. As they seem to be enjoying their surf, Bethany’s dangles her left arm in the water then suddenly a 14-foot shark comes out of nowhere and rips off her whole arm below the shoulder taking her to hospital in the rush for

You could see the determination and willingness not to give up and her not wanting to leave until she gets to stand on the surfboard properly. After multiple times of her failing attempts, she eventually reaches her goal by standing on her surfboard without falling off.
One of the best scenes I saw watching this film is when Bethany goes on a trip with her church group bringing supplies to survivors of the tsunami in Thailand. While Bethany is there she notices a surfboard on the ground and goes into the water with it as she tries to encourage the children watching her go into the water to let them know that the water isn’t harmful which I find inspiring.
One of the techniques used in this film is obviously Bethany’s arm play by AnnaSophia, Where she had to wear a green shirt and that green shirt was used by computer design to make it look like she has no arm in the film while wearing different kinds of shirts you see her wearing in the
Many things about the film remake of Bethany's story are the same as the real-life event. Bethany and her family helped as much as they could with the film- making process, and met with each of the cast members before, as well as throughout, the filming process. Some of the similarities to the real- life event include Bethany's excitement to return to the water and her old surfing life, as well as the timeline in which she did. Bethany began surfing again within one month of her attack. Other similarities were that of: her cutting fruit by holding it between her feet, her taking the arm off of one of her Barbie dolls to match hers, and her overall hard work to go on to having a pro- surfer career. Also, Bethany's family dog, Hana, was the actual dog that played "Ginger" in the movie.
1. Soul Surfer takes place in Kauai, Hawaii. In the story, the main character-Bethany Hamilton- is an extremely talented surfer. Her whole life basically revolved around surfing, she loved it more than anything else in the world. Bethany spent most of her time in the water, either practicing or competing. Until one day during a practice session with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, something tragic occurred. Bethany was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark. Alana, and her father and brother rushed Bethany to the hospital, in fear that she might die. Ironically, Bethany’s father was getting surgery that day, and he left his room so that his daughter could be helped. It was her and her family’s faith in God
While the book “Left to Tell” by Immaculée Ilibagiza and the movie “Hotel Rwanda” by Terry George shows its share of similarities, both portray the Rwandan Massacre of 1994 in diversified ways. First, while both characters share similarities portraying the perspective of the genocide, they also show some major differences in the point of view as the main character in the movie was a hotel manager while the other main character from the book was a young, Tutsi woman. Also, while they face similar conflicts and hardships, both have their own personal field of adversities to face.

A girl named Bethany Hamilton defeats all odds when she loses her arm in a shark attack. Through her faith and family she never loses her determination to get back on her board and return to competitive surfing. She has touched the lives of so many people with her charitable efforts, message, and her overall strength. She has become an inspiration for everyone around the world. Bethany shares her life story in the movie Soul Surfer, directed by Sean McNamara with performances by AnnaSophia Robb, Helen Hunt, and Carrie Underwood. The movie follows the life of Bethany Hamilton, a thirteen-year-old competitive surfer in Kauai, Hawaii. Even though Soul Surfer is based on a true story, the movie itself is only semi-accurate, as demonstrated by character, plot, and special effects.
Bethany Hamilton is a brave surfer who survived a shark attack and faced her fears to continue doing what she loves. She was born in Kauai in 1990 and started surfing when she was 4 years old. At the age of 8, she got a gold medal in her first competition and since then she would have the first place in every championship she took part of. She was so talented that she could do amazing tricks that surfers her age couldn’t. Therefore, she had Rip Curl as a sponsor. However, in 2003 she was laying on her surfboard with her left arm underwater and a tiger shark bit it. Luckily, she was accompanied by her friends, so they helped her to get to the beach. Although she had a tremendous fear, Bethany didn’t hesitate in returning to the waves
Can you imagine being attacked by a shark at the age of only 13? Well Bethany Hamilton who is now 25 did just that and survived a vicious shark attack. Beth was able to recover and overcome her obstacles to become one of the greatest surfers of all time. With great support and determination, Bethany never gave up.
The inclusion of footage of Koby surfing successfully at a turbulent time with the law had the purpose to re-channel the focus from the negative aspects of the “Bra Boys” history to the favourable events that portray them as surfing legends. Abberton was strongly promoting the moral that the “Bra Boys” as a whole, turn their disadvantage into success as the surf was their saviour. Koby Abberton was the figurehead for this storyline and by the use of his career achievements; it effectively cancelled out the negative judgements that could arise from his court case. The use of extreme long shots of the giant waves in Tahiti and Hawaii and the small surfer riding the mammoth waves acted a strong symbol. The relative size of the wave which was further emphasised by the choice of camera shot represents the amount of variables against Koby Abberton – representing the “Bra Boys”.
Bethany supports the protection of sharks and their habitats (pg.7). This is ironic because she was actually attacked by one. This certain shark is considered to be one of the deadliest predators in the ocean (pg.7). The shark turned out to be a fifteen foot tiger shark, which attacked her when she was waiting for a wave to surf on even though she was only thirteen years old. (pg.7). [Bethany showed great resilience in overcoming the shark attack to achieve her surfing dream.]
It made a lot of things harder for her, but that doesn’t mean she gave up. Surfing was a big part of her life, and giving that up wasn’t going to happen. It was a rough process, but Bethany eventually gave up her fears and got back on her board. Lifeguards and doctors say it was her determination and faith in God that got her back up. In January 2004, Bethany made her big return in surf competitions. Her first competition after getting back on her board, she placed 5th place. With no intention of stopping, Bethany continued to enter and excel in competition. As Bethany put it, “It was what God had taught me growing up that helped me overcome my fear and get back on the board. ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go’ (Joshua
Honestly the past couple of days, I did not work out. Stayed indoors most of the time completing unfinished work and studying for upcoming tests. However, the reason for not working out is because there is a theory I want to attempt this week. Challenges I faced over the past couple of days were visuals for Marching Band. Okay, there are some people in the world who says that Marching Band ain't a sport. In my opinion, a sport is defined by physical exertion output (endurance), skills, rules, and competition. Though that is just my opinion, others have their own definition of what is considered a sport. Overall, since I have done absolutely nothing for the past week. Adjustments are necessary for the upcoming week. Requiring me to exercise daily and comparing the data I have collected from the past couple of days. The progress that I and Wendy have remarkably benefited us in terms of physical appearance. Our endurance and determination to keep pushing forward have increased exponentially.
In Wolf essay “the death of the moth’’, was about the life of a moth compared to that of a real life and death. In the essay, the moth was exploring, flying from one place to the other, until it started to encounter with death. The moth fight to escape her windowpane before it was snatched by death. The essay is somehow descriptive and narrative. It started narrative in the fourth sentences
The film's protagonist, Bethany Hamilton, is young but demonstrates remarkable maturity for her age. She is passionate about and committed to surfing as a recreational activity and also as a professional sport. Bethany has a strong Christian faith, which is shown to be an important part of her character as well as her family background. Bethany's parents Tom and Cheri are both depicted as stalwart supporters of their daughter, as well as being laid-back surfers who are entrenched in Hawaii. Bethany has two brothers, Noah and Timmy. Neither Noah nor Timmy are major characters in the film. Bethany's best friend Alana features prominently in the film, as she is supportive of her friend and is also a competitive surfer. Alana and Bethany both win competitions and were both selected for Rip Curl sponsorship. Another key character in Soul Surfer is Malina, a bitter, competitive surfer who
