Transformers, an action adventure movie, that was originally released in 2007 and Directed by Michael Bay. Screen writers were Roverto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and the sound mixing technician was Dan Sharp. This movie has everything you want to keep you awake in the movie theater, one specific feature I want to focus the attention on is in the sound element's of the movie. During the entirety of the movie there is incredible techniques used to enhance the movie such as sound effects, narration and the theme music. All of these techniques come together to portray a young man in high school trying to live a normal life when out of the blue he has these giant robots from another planet trying to find his grandfathers glasses that were imprinted …show more content…
In many scenes during the movie the Autobots would transform from the car form into the robot standing like a human. The sound effects in these moments are incredible and technical. There is many moving pieces and they are made of metal, catching all these little detailed components moving is what makes these come to life. Their technology inside of each one of the robot creatures makes a movement that needs a sound like mechanical and electrical and this shows that they are more machine, and nothing at all like humans. Mixing of the machinery and the robotic noises help to know what's happening in the back ground out of the scene, whenever the Autobots or Decepticons …show more content…
For instance in the scene when the first Decepticon is shown flying to the air force base to attack it, the music playing is a deep, ominous, and a scary kind of beat. Even the robot mechanical movements and sounds are altered to show a dark scary creature about to be shown. One of the first Decepticons shown is unidentified, and the air force base is trying to contact them and tell the Decepticon to identify itself or it would be shot down, after trying still nothing is said. They fly the helicopter in and tell it to power down and get out, but what they don't know is that the pilot is just a hologram and the Decepticon transforms and begins to attack the base. Because these things are super computers they are able to hack the entire military system and find what they are looking for. The director Michael Bay with the sound mixing technician Dan Sharp used these different techniques to show both good and evil characters, so it was easy to identify who or what was coming
Along with background music, sound effects play more of a role on the way we feel than many moviegoers think, and "although the function of sound effects is primarily atmospheric, they can also be precise sources of meaning in film" (Giannetti, 225). When the
Tim Burton, in Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, and Miss Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children, uses mysterious music, lighting, and angles in orders to show something bad might happen in the scene. This is interesting because it makes the viewer want to know what is going to happen. This is important because suspense in a movie is better for the viewer than the viewer knowing what is going to happen. The viewer being about to know what is going to happen would just ruin the movie.
Tim Burton uses music and sound to give off the feeling of how the character feels. This sets the mood of a certain scenes. In Edward Scissorhands he uses ominous music to a create a feeling in the scene. For example, when Peg walked into the garden looking at it, the music in the background played as she continued to walk in. This draws the viewers in wondering what might happen to the character. In Corpse Bride, the director uses dramatic music. For instances, he used dramatic music in the background when Victor was running away from the corpse bride, Emily to emphasize Victor's fear. This creates how Victor fears seeing the corpse bride, Emily coming up the ground and
Sound plays an important role throughout the film Shrek in various forms. It is a key component in the film and helps to convey meaning. The usage of sound reveals character, shapes the audience’s attention, and shapes the audience’s feelings.
The element of sound and audio are very rich areas in the move Saving Private Ryan. The sounds of war are rendered loudly and as realistically as possible. The audio is altered so that when soldiers talk during battle, you can barely hear then screaming. This accentuates the extremities soldiers faced during the war, and how powerful weapons were on both sides. The sounds played during the movie gives an even more realistic portrayal of war. The abundance of disorderly sounds creates the impression of chaos and the senseless combat that occurred between powers during World War
I Robot, directed by Alex Proyas, is a film that shows how modern technology will advance within the years; making people question their everyday lifestyle. In I Robot, the main character Detective Del Spooner, had us follow his journey on questioning societal expectations. This all began from the creation that Dr. Alfred Lanning, who created the robots as well as V.I.K.I. The main NS5 robot in the movie is named Sonny, who questioned his purpose of life as a robot. This Film was designed to have us question, understand the rules and order in situations and evolve with society.
In the raid scene the audience can easily make out the sound of explosives, gunfire, and stealth helicopter blades, without even watching the film. One can close their eyes and picture the sounds in their mind. While watching the film, the audience doesn’t realize that a lot of the sound in the film was not real, such as sound of the stealth helicopter blades. They were replaced with “Foley sounds”. Sound editor, Paul Ottoson claims that he had to come up with his own sounds in order to make them seem realistic.
During the film Steve Spielberg uses music, a mysterious shark and camera techniques such as simultaneous track and zoom, long shot, close up shots and medium shots to build suspense, tension and scare the audience.
Horror films are known for their ability to scare audiences, to get the audience’s hearts racing, their blood rushing. A good horror film will cause viewers to be on the edge of their seats and having their perception of reality distorted as they attempt to understand the unraveling plot of the horror film. The tone of the film aides in the amount of suspense that a horror film produces, since a much darker film will create a more suspenseful atmosphere than one that is more focused on campy monster makeup. But the tone of a film is determined by the sound of the film, or in other words, the score. Sound or music in a horror film, or the lack thereof, make the intense scenes and without the addition
When Making a film a director wants to draw the audiences emotions to the film to make them interested in what is going to happen. The director wants to make sure the audience is putting their emotions into a particular character or event. They can use this to give items importance and help us see who is an important character or if an event is serious or not. They basically tell us how to feel in a situation. They do this with the perspective/focus, lighting, and with the audio.
Even though the film is essentially a visual experience, the use of sound has become extremely important in modern film. The modern viewer hears a complicated soundtrack that is as meaningful as the image on the screen. Three elements comprise the film's soundtrack: the dialogue, the sound effects, and the musical score. The proper balance and mix of these elements produced the essential emphasis required, which created the desired effects. As explained by Joseph Boggs and Dennis Petrie,
Steven Spielberg, the creator of Jaws, uses many different techniques to draw in the suspense of viewers and to capture their imagination. These techniques include special effects – to create tension, different camera angles – to show facial expressions and group shots. The classic Jaws music, known by millions of people, also helps build up tension, to let us know when the shark is approaching. He uses colours, so that we can associate signs and symbols to forthcoming events, e.g. the colour red is associated with danger. We will be using all of the above devices to help analyse different parts of the film.

Two components that have an immense impact on the quality and caliber of a film are the editing and sound found within the film. These two aspects alone can make or break a film. In the film The Kings of Summer, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, these two elements collaborate to highlight certain emotions and key moments in the film’s plot. Some of the sub-elements of these two components that can easily be identified within the film include the flashforward, the flashback, both nondiegetic and diegetic sound, semi diegetic sound, graphic matching and voice offs. Within the film The Kings Of Summer, editing and sound are methodically and tactfully utilized in order to produce a film that is both entertaining and meaningful for the audience.
