Source Evaluation Essay For this evaluation essay, I chose four sources for it. The first two material are a journal and one news about the definition of the Pluto. For the third one is a book of introduction of Astronomy, while the last one is a professional source for solar system. All of these resource are written by experts, but not all of them can be cited as an academic source in a research paper. For the first source, an article called “Is Pluto a Planet”, written by Graham Rax. This article was published by Kalmbach Publishing Company in 1999, on a magazine called ASTRONOMY. The UPI (United Press International) Space Daily has published a news on August 30th, 2006, called “Pluto No Longer a Planet”. This news redefined the Pluto as a dwarf planet. As one of the most well-known international news agency, UPI provided news, photo and film to thousands of newspapers, television stations and other media. Although I find nothing about the writer, the authority should not be doubted. In the article, writer mentioned about the new definition about the planet, why the Pluto is not meet the requirement anymore. Most important, the article included the discussion of the scientists and quoted exactly the same word they use. Moreover, the time of publication was just after the IAU (International Astronomical Union) officially defining the Pluto as a dwarf planet, which means this news should keep the most accurate information at that time.
