Alternate Energy Sources
Alternative energy sources are becoming more and more popular. The most important alternative energy sources are solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, ocean, and hydropower energies. Their main advantage lies in the resumption of energy resources. This paper will give information about each of sources as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
Solar energy
The Sun is a leading environmentally clean energy source. The process of generating electricity from sunlight has been known for over a hundred years. Edmond Becquerel first observed the photovoltaic effect in 1839 (Zamostny, p. 1). Through a series of experiments on electricity, he plunged two metal electrodes in a conductive solution and exposed it to sunlight. As a result, there was a small electrical voltage between electrodes.
Solar energy is used to produce electricity and heat water. The advantages of this energy are noiseless, lack of air emissions, and renewability of source. The disadvantages of solar energy include a dependence on solar power from the daily, seasonal position of the Sun, weather conditions, and the need for large areas for the construction of solar power plants. Also, a serious environmental problem is the use of toxic substances in the manufacture of solar cells that cause a problem of their disposal.
Wind energy
A second alternative energy source is wind energy. It is used for electricity and actuates a windmill. Inexhaustibility is the primary advantage of wind
In the process of generation of power sun’s energy is used and also for solar heating and cooling. Solar energy resources are extensively spread and can receive sun light anywhere. While generating the electricity various factors are considered which affects in the generation such as location, weather conditions, time of the day. Greenhouse gases are not emitted during the generation of electricity. (Carey, 2014)
These alternatives can be helpful in reducing carbon emissions while ensuring the energy independence . These sources are wind ,solar ,geothermal, hydro, nuclear and renewable bio fuels. Some of these sources are renewable , meaning they can be replenished, while others like nuclear, are non-renewable, yet are clean sources of energy. For better sustainability , society continues to explore the challenges of these energy options to help implement the necessary changes for an environmentally friendly and energy independent future.
Alternative energies are the future of power. They will be the power that will sustain human life until the end. This is why the United States government should invests more towards the research and use of alternative energies. Alternative energies are any energy that will replace fossil fuels. Some common alternative energies are solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, hydrogen, and biofuels. The U.S. should use those alternative energies over fossil fuels, Petroleum (oil), coal, and natural gas. We currently have ways to store and use these types of energies but the ways we have are not the most effective. That is why the U.S. should fund the research of better ways to harvest and use these alternative energies.
6. Solar energy is radiant energy we get from the sun. Basically, the sun gives off a lot energy and we convert it into electricity. This is one of the cleanest way to help out in climate change. Pros: 1. Clean 2. Sustainable 3. Renewable Cons: 1. Not completely reliable 2. Expensive 3. Exotic
Today, many people are talking about energy production and all the new and old ways to go about it. There are many different modes of energy production that is available or is becoming available to us in the future. The constant debate about what energy production is best for the environment and which is not. In my essay, I will be describing the advantages and disadvantages of coal, oil, and Solar energy.
In order to gain a more complex understanding of alternative energy sources, one would first need to comprehend the meaning of alternative energy. Virtually any new type of energy discovered by humans made the respective concept alternative to earlier energy sources. Coal was an important alternative energy source during the Middle Ages as people performed massive deforestations and had little to no wood left. Petroleum also represented an alternative energy source during the early nineteenth century as it came to replace whale oil (History of Alternative Energy).
In a world without coal power, we must use alternative sources of energy to power our lives. Renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, will soon fill this void.
Alternative energy sources can be implemented for house and car factories and any other facility you can imagine. The common known alternative energy sources are Hydroelectric Energy, Solar Energy, and Wind Energy. The potential energy stored in hydroelectric energy that is driving into a dam of water to make water turbines and generators. The energy that the earth receives from the sun is solar energy. Human civilization has started realizing how much harm they have already caused to the environment. Alternative Energy Sources helped people maintain balance of the nature without causing harm to conventional energy sources. Solar energy is a renewable form of energy will not deplete until thousands of years. It’s solar power to a generation is very clean. Wind Energy is an effective alternative sources of energy in places where the velocity of the wind is high but is a very clean form of energy. But the wind is a renewable source of energy therefore it wouldn’t make a big problem. The new alternative energy source is apart from commonly knowing that there have been recent advancements discovering to add of to the list of old alternative sources. Challenges by using the alternative energy sources are promised as the use of alternative sources of energy is under research to how to tap energy from other resources. Although the small powers of generation systems be brought into other places but the power generation from the resources on large scales are very challengeable with
The first and one of the most common sources seen, is wind energy. Windmills have been widely used in
Fossil fuels can be easily found around the globe and the production of these fuels may be cost-effective. Although fossil fuel is harmful to the environment, the United States is continuing to use fossil fuel as a source of energy. In addition to this, once the fossil fuels have all been used up, there is no chance of obtaining more. There are many types of alternative energy sources in the world that a renewable and may not be harmful to the environment. In addition to this, alternative energy sources have to ability to power large corporations as well as small businesses around the globe.
Will solar energy and other renewable, alternative energy sources, replace the current main source of electrical energy production oil and coal? What alternative energy sources show the most potential for producing electrical energy in the future? How will this transition take place and when will it take place? What are the educated projections for the time in which crude oil will no longer be vital to producing electricity and how will renewable energy sources lead to a world of sustainability? The answers to these questions and others will be presented in this paper.
Good morning/afternoon fellow peers and staff members. Today, I am going to prove how alternative energy sources are better than conventional sources. Some people don’t know the difference from alternative and conventional energy sources.Conventional sources are sources that are most common and have been traditionally used in the past. Alternative sources are the more eco-friendly source which makes our world a better place to live in. Examples of alternative energy sources are wind and wave energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, and biofuels. There are many pros for alternative energy and many cons for conventional energy. As I have said before, I will prove to you that alternative energy is better than conventional energy.
“In United States around half of million deaths each year are attributed to air pollution. It is estimated that air pollution each day kills three people in the city of Hong Kong. Air pollution also contributes to soil and water pollution. More than 15,000 people in the world die each day because of water pollution” (pollutionfacts.com). With these statistics, it is no wonder people are coming up with alternative energy sources. From energy to gasoline, there are many different ways to reduce these statistics. Some alternatives to energy sources are solar and wind power, alternative vehicle fuels and hybrid cars.
The constant increase and release of carbon dioxide emissions into our environment have drastic effects on our environment. These greenhouse gases warm the earth impacting its naturally occurring events and processes, such as acid rain, destruction of natural habitats, and even influencing the natural flow of the currents in our oceans. The goal has been to create diverse methods of generating powerful, dependable energy sources that do not have negative repercussions on our environment. Alternative energy refers to sources that do not create undesired consequences, such as fossil fuels do (Alternative Energy 2015). Not only are emissions from fossil fuels concerning, but also these resources are not going to be available for our use forever, making changes for alternative energy sources a pressing topic of discussion.
Solar energy may define as the energy received by the earth from the sun. This solar energy is in the form of solar radiation. With the help of solar cells, solar radiation can convert into electricity. Sun is a highly powerful energy source, humans and natures are directly depending on the sun. For example in hydro-electricity the solar energy needed for the evaporation of water after that it returns to earth as rain and provides water in dams. In biomass, the solar energy used that process. Solar cells directly converted solar radiation into electricity, during the process time there is no noise or pollution are there. These cells made with some semiconducting materials. If use solar cells in our home it will help to reduce the greenhouse gas emission, minimise the percentage of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and mainly reduce the necessity of fossil fuels and natural gas use to produce electricity. According to the Ben Sorensen, solar energy is one of a good source of substitute energy, for the reason that it is renewable, economical and does not pollute our environment. Thus, this essay will be divided into three parts. Firstly, we will talk about fossil fuels and its demerits. Secondly, we will look at the issues and implications of solar energy. Finally, we will focus on the advantageous and disadvantageous of solar energy respectively.
