I have chosen to compare my home state of South Carolina with one of the biggest tourist attractive states in America, Nevada. Las Vegas attracts millions of people to the state yearly, famously known for a place called the strip which is a fascination to see at first site. In the meantime, the locals conditions lived in statewide are less glamorous. Data indicates the state of Nevada has issues, as do South Carolina with all of its marvelous heritage. The two States relatively compare with each other in several regions. Consequently, they both rank in the upper middle of overall senior rankings. South Carolina ranks 33 with Nevada close behind in 40th position. Also, both has slightly increased from their 2014 positions. Carolina increased
Each colony was settled for different reasons such as religious freedom, riches or glory. Massachutes and South Carolina were both settled for very different reasons as well. Though they were very different there was also some similarities.
South Carolina is a triven state in the United States, it has a lot of history to it like having a lot to do in the revolutionary war. It has some of the outstanding neighborhood in America. It seems to be a good vacation spot, well it would surprise people to know that South Carolina was once a place where some settlers were trying to settle on the land, but a couple of things kept the settlers from settling on the rich land. Geography, resources, and diseases.
Florida has always been a beautiful state aligned with unique natural wonders which has made it a location of wonder within the U.S. Even with Florida’s majestic natural appeal the state in its territorial years struggled with its public image as Indian attacks were common place in the region along with yellow fever and environmental phenomena such as hurricanes. Following in the end of the Seminole and the Civil war Florida began to search for a new identity and sense of prosperity in the face of massive changes to its economy and societal structure. With the advent of new technologies, the borders of Florida for the first time were opened to larger encompassing audience of visitors from all over the country who came to marvel at the natural landscape and relax in the temperate weather. Gary Mormino author of “Land of Sunshine State of Dreams” described in his book the factors and obstacles which challenged and ultimately propelled Florida to experience monumental growth in the 20th century. From the rapid use of automobiles to the creation of the magic Kingdom Florida has numerous factors to acknowledge when recognizing its recent success in America. While Gary Mormino book makes no effort to shy away from the less favorable aspects Florida history including the financial struggles of the early nineties, his book is clearly portraying an optimistic tone which echoes the glories of Florida’s past and future.
I will compare and contrast three colonies, Virginia, South Carolina, and Massachusetts, to demonstrate that the motivations of the colonists determined their success.
Throughout history Nevada has been an outstanding state giving it residents the best it has to offer, as it still does today in the 1850’s it was no exception.
Unlike many other states Nevada’s statehood is very much connected to the Civil war and is not just a gambling town. Nevada was the second of only two states to be added to the Union during the Civil War. Some people from Nevada or that know a lot about Nevada may call it by one if its three most common nicknames such as, Battle-Born State, Sagebrush State, and Silver State. Nevada got its name from a group of Spaniards who called it Nevada which translated to English means snowy, because of how the mountains were always covered in snow during the winter. Today Nevada is part of the United States, which has not always been the case, Nevada became part of Mexico in 1821, and was not in possession of America until the Mexican-American War in 1848.When Nevada was finally taken by the United States, it became part of the Utah territory and was no longer called Nevada, until silver was discovered in the Comstock Lode in 1859 which led to a population boom, which led to Nevada becoming its own territory, but it still hadn’t made its way to statehood yet.
One of the topics we have gone over this quarter, is tourism and recreation and the effects they have on a community. When I think of tourism I often think of places like New York City or the monuments in South Dakota.
The economic forces of colonial expansion created a global economy where international trade united previously unfamiliar populations with each other. Before the birth of imperialism, many African and Asian economies were in a primitive and inefficient state lacking the modern technologies and innovations that were common in Europe. With the annexation of territories in Africa and Asia, many European powers were able to export their economic technologies and innovations to those under developing nations. Eventually, the adoption of a similar system of economic operations by both settler and non-settler states allowed international trade to be conducted. What is of utmost importance is that colonialism taught these nations the benefits and procedures of exchanging goods and capitals over borders. Through the practice of global trade, previously unknown populations were able to communicate and conduct business on an international level, thus uniting different economies and their corresponding populations. Aside from
The state of various cities differs widely across the board. For example, comparing the scenic New York City, to the humble town of Carrizo Springs, is like comparing a star to a campfire. Don’t get me wrong, Carrizo Springs is great place overall, but fails in comparison to New York City in most aspects. For example, both areas have a variety of living spaces; however, the personality of the community, the size of both cities, the cleanliness of the environments themselves, differ considerably.
As I stepped out to the Las Vegas Strip for the first time, the first thing I came across was the massive water show at the Bellagio. With the calm music playing in the background finely tuned with every drop of water I fell in love. Along with the gigantic crowd of people that surrounded me I could feel the warmth of every light bulb that lit up the city that never sleeps. Comparing Las Vegas to my hometown Madrid, I find many differences that only I may be able to depict. Some of the differences include the food, the culture and the demographic of the people in the community. Out of the many differences I chose to compare three things that I found were the most interesting. Madrid and Las Vegas are very different in term of climate, economy,
Las Vegas casinos are vast luxurious multi-billion dollar architectural structures with inviting gambling tables covered with tight bright felts and shiny new cards ready to hit 21 in one single hand, the unforgettable “ding” “ding” “ding” of the slot machine feels like adrenaline at the possibly of becoming a millionaire. Outside of the casino the city that never sleeps is full of life and neon lights that sparkle from all around. The Strip is a glorious chaos with hundreds of people walking in all directions. Explosions of the beautiful synchronized dancing water fountains at the Bellagio and the amazing fireballs of the erupting volcano at the Mirage intensify Las Vegas experience. However for residents, Las Vegas is far from a multi billion-dollar experience. The recession domino effect blasted the house market and left millions unemployed.

Tourist traps and souvenir shops, if poorly placed, can ruin the beauty of nature. Touristry continues to plague America today, as it did in the 60’s. For example, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, as pictured below. Tennessee hosts the Great Smoky Mountains, but tourist traps fill Gatlinburg
Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, a gambling mecca for millions every year? Back in the old days, thousands of years ago, sacrifice was a very important theme in many cultures. It was seen as a form of renewing oneself and the internally cleansing from sin. Throughout the novel The King Must Die, Mary Renault presents her readers with several sacrifices that all add up to portray the story’s theme of sacrifice in different cultures. The theme of sacrifice is described as a constant cycle in a culture, one which renews the people and washes away their sins and wrong doings.
