The Korean War was Kim’s idea of reunification through the use of military force. * Soviet Union did not even want to be involved in a war. One country is comparable to the United States of America in terms of world power and prominence. Russia makes their name known beginning in World War 2 (WW2), later in the Korean War, Cold War, and today’s proxy war in the Syria. Russia’s culture, environment, politics, military, and economy do not just make Russia a regional powerhouse, but slowly becoming a region of influential power to surrounding countries with the end state of a global superpower. All the factors that make Russia the powerhouse that it is slowly becoming, highlights the impressive trend that supersedes the previous Soviet Union and past leaders.

The Korean War begun far before North Korea had launched their first assault upon South Korea. Nearing of the end of the Second World War, the Korean Peninsula had been under Japanese control. Soon enough it was liberated by both American and Soviet forces, the Soviets occupying the country north of the 38th Parallel, and the Americans south of it. After the war, neither the Koreans, Soviets, nor the Americans could agree on the country's government. This resulted in the foundation of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the south and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the north (Ohn Chang-Il, 23). The fact that neither the States nor the Soviets were willing to compromise on anything was a prime factor in the separation of the Korean Peninsula.

In America we always remember the importance of the wars we fought. For some reason most people always forget or skip the Korean War. Korea was a small colony that was taken over by Japan in 1910. When World War II ended Japan’s government was falling apart and could no longer support Korea. This left the colony to anyone who wanted it, and Russia answered the call. Russia successfully conquered the north when the south contacted the U.S. to stop them. War broke out on June 25, 1950 which had sealed the fate of the Korean Peninsula. The Korean War was mostly a coalition with communist values and capitalist values. The outcome of this war has shaped the way works.The Korean War was very important to the world because it showed that America was unprepared, the Korean Peninsula was divided, and the countries who were involved.

The Korean War, also known as the “Forgotten War” began on June 25, 1950. On that day, about 75,000 soldiers from North Korean, with the help and advice from the Soviet Union, cross the 38th parallel. The 38th parallel is “the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south” (History.com). Within three days, the North Korean People’s Army was able to capture Seoul, the capital of South Korea. This invasion marked the beginning of the Cold War. Fearing the spread of Communism, the United Nations and United States agreed to send troops to South Korea, and on the 1st of July 1950, American troops arrived to South Korea to help the democratic South Korean to fight against the North Korean communist invasion. The Americans goal was to prevent the spread of Communism.

Ironically named nicknamed "the Forgotten War", the Korean war is engraved in memories of those who lived through it and forever leaving its mark in history. Thus, Veterans Roger Hill, Paul Wurzer, Francis Stefano, Richard Kenn, John Noto and Frank Nicalazzo are a few of the many soldiers that live to tell and share the virtuousness and debauchedness of the war.

The war that is known as the Forgotten War, had a timeline of lasting three years, but never truly ended is the Korean War. All started on Sunday June 25, 1950 when North Korea pushed past the thirty-eighth parallel into South Korea. Reasoning behind pushing against thirty-eighth parallel is because of North and South Korea having different visions. The thirty-eighth parallel was created in nineteen forty-five after World War II. The United States controlled the South and China had influence from Russia to side with North Korea. First, the U.S. had the most of their issues with the USSR and the USSR consumed North Korea with a communist government. The U.S. feared that South Korea would be influenced by North Korea considering they were neighboring countries. I believe that the United States’ involvement in the Korean war was worth it in the end. If we had not stepped in, South Korea would have been completely taken over by North Korea. The people of North Korea today, deal with a very restricting lifestyle. None of North Korea’s citizens are allowed access to the internet and all radio and television stations, newspapers and magazines are government monitored. There are also North Korean concentration camps with around 200,000 to 250,000 prisoners in entirety, with the annual casualty rate of 25%, and the enforcement of loyalty and obedience through its Ministry of People's Security (Head). The Korean War (1950-1953) emerged after World War II where the world powers at the time, the United States and Allies-UN Forces and the Soviet Union had conflicting visions for what the postwar world should look like. The shaping of the Korean Peninsula was first on their agendas. The Soviet Union vision was to unify Korea through the expansion of Communism, which made sense strategically with Communist China and the Soviet Union in Korea’s backyard. However, the unification of Korea would only happen via civil war. North Korea would have to invade South Korea and inflict their will by means of armed force. Conversely, as one can imagine the UN-Forces vision was to prevent the expansion of Communism and unify North and South Korea in a single country protected by the United States. North Korea would strike first by engaging in civil war and South Korea with UN Forces assistance would help stop their onslaught. Next, uninformed the UN Forces would head into North Korea on the offensive, only to be met by prepared communist forces, which leads to retreat of the UN Forces and ultimately a stalemate.
