The once-mighty Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, largely due to the great number of radical reforms that Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev had implemented during his six years as the leader of the USSR. If they had conquered South Korea, the reign of the communist empire longer and had been even more powerful with the South bringing more technological advancements on their side. The South Korean democracy and success might not have been possible. If they had been more dominant, they potentially could have won in a combative conflict (the Cold War) against the US and overran it. This could have led to the Soviet Union invading the entire world, and enforcing the communist ideology among each civilization on the planet. Although the oppressive and inhumane policies of the Soviets would drive many to revolt, resulting in the eventual collapse of this preeminent empire, that may have been the outcome of state of the world today if the North had prevailed during the Korean War.
