Differences And Similarities Between The Spanish And Aztec

Imagine that you are living in a jungle in the middle of central day Mexico. You are part of an indigenous group that call themselves the Mexica. Nowadays they go by the name Aztec and live in modern day Mexico. Although the Spanish lived across the ocean from the Aztec, they had many similarities and differences in their warfare. Weaponry, tactics, and worldview are all important elements of the Aztec and Spanish. The Aztec and Spanish weaponry was both similar and different. The Spanish and Aztec had variations of a spear that were used in battle. The Aztec spear was a long piece of wood that was sharpened at both ends. The tips of the spear were also hardened in the flame of a fire. A Spanish spear was similar but was not double sided. Spanish spears also had sharpened steel points at the end. The Aztec were a powerful group but did not have an imperialistic worldview like the Spanish. The Spanish expanded their empire and travelled across to the America’s. Here they explored and conquered many groups of people. As they fought the Spanish army grew with more slaves being taken in. This was very different from the Aztec people who fought only for control. They were not focused on expanding their religion and allowed conquered areas to keep their religion and way of life. They did not take slaves and used the captured men for human sacrifice. The Aztec thought that sacrifice would keep their gods happy and increased the amount of before they were conquered. Thus the Aztec worldview was based on religion and the gods. The Aztec and Spanish worldviews were different. The Aztec respected their gods and only conquered land to not be destroyed while the Spanish conquered land to expand their empire. These factors helped contribute to the fall of the powerful Aztec
