The Last Book in the Universe takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting with the main character Spaz. The name of the author who made The Last Book in the Universe is Rodman Philbrick. The main character Spaz has a condition called Epilepsy which is why he was named Spaz. His character really changed throughout the story and you start to learn about his history. Spaz is definitely one of the most interesting characters throughout the book. Another interesting character in the book would be Lanaya you can see how her personality changes during the book and how she views things.

After the message he had enough reasoning and motivation to go to her. He brought Ryter because Ryter knew the way through the tunnels and Little Face followed them. You could tell his change in personality when he had heard about Bean being sick instead of having the “nobody matters but me attitude” he started getting hope and caring more for others throughout the book.
His epilepsy wasn’t his only defect he acted brave and tough but when it came down to it he would get scared and not move. On page 132 Spaz says “I was so scared. Too scared to do anything but run. Too scared, even, to think about Bean.” After that he starts realizing how much of a coward he can be and he starts to feel depressed. One thing that was a defect was that he always blamed everything or everyone else for his problems. Whenever something bad happened or went wrong he would usually blame Ryter or Lanaya. Atticus Finch, a middle aged lawyer agrees to take on the case of a black man who has been accused of a rape against a white women, despite knowing the fact that it's taboo.
Some of the other characters are Grover Persons, Nickie’s ant Crystal, her mom and dad, Amanda, and Martin. Grover and Martin are boys that Nickie met at different times while she was exploring Yonwood. At one point, Grover hints that he used to be good friends with Martin. Crystal is usually never around. She is always off trying to organize things so the house will be ready for auction as soon as possible. Nickie’s mom and dad aren’t actually in the story. They send letters back and forth. Her mom is living at home and dad is off involved with the war somewhere. No one knows where it actually is he keeps sending weird postcards to his wife and daughter.
In the book “The Last Book in the Universe”,the author Rodman Philbrick used the main character Spaz to narrate the story. The book tells what happened 200 hundred years after an enormous earthquake, also known as “ The Big Shake”. Throughout the book characters like Spaz, Ryter, Bean and Lanaya change in a positive way that society wouldn’t really approve of. All the characters in the book go along with society at the beginning of the book. By the end of the book each individual take risks and speak up for themselves against what society would expect them to do.
Another great supporting character in this book is Helen Kirsten. She was a teacher/ librarian from New York City. She was odd and different. She was hired to be a librarian and a part time English teacher. She ended up being a full time English teacher. There are a good bit of characters in this book. There is Brian (the main character), Brian’s mother, Susan, Haley, Carl, Brian’s father, Caleb, the pilot, the two fishermen, and Billy. Where this is taking place is in a small town and in the woods, but is mostly talking about being in the woods. Brian use to live in the woods by himself. He comes back to a town to finish up school and has to part his ways from the woods.
I have always enjoyed movies. But at some point I started to think of movies as more than just entertainment. I began to view them as a movie critic would, rather than just a casual viewer.
