After one year's work experience as a case manager, I want to return to academic study and undertake my graduate degree with The University of Texas- Pan American Master of Education in Special Education. As stated above, I work as a case manager with Aim, LLC, providing case management and mentoring by using intensive supervision services incorporating GPS monitoring to keep at-risk youth in school within the San Antonio and Judson Independent School Districts.
Working with at-risk youth has made me come to the realization of a rapidly growing population, the special needs students. Many students with learning disabilities who lack proper evaluation skip school or at times even drop out due to not receiving the help they need to stay in school. Teachers need time to provide qualified support within the school schedule; however find this difficult with such limited time to do so in a regular classroom setting. I would like to pursue a Master of Education in Special Education to further my knowledge of the required qualities, specialized skills, and different teaching methods so I may ultimately give back to the community by creating an afterschool program focusing on extra

In addition to being a truancy case manager, every summer I work for Didactica, an educational travel agency, as a learning guide and a leadership coordinator ensuring the students engage in successful learning while maintaining safety at all times. We plan activities and tours to incorporate a fun activity while learning history and culture from different parts of the world. This opportunity not only enriches my own learning and leadership skills, but helps foster these qualities in
Interviewing the special education supervisor has made me aware of how important my role is as a regular education teacher to special students who need additional support in my classroom. The goal of the teacher is to ensure that the IEP is followed to ensure the academic success of all students. IEP stands for Individual Education Plan and the plan is usually developed when students have several deficiencies in certain key subject areas such as: reading comprehension, basic reading, reading fluency, written expressions, math calculation, and math reasoning. Students are referred to the special education department usually in elementary school, additionally; according to the high school special education supervisor there are very few referrals
A child with disabilities is a major focus in today’s education. Achieving my Bachelors in Special Education, I need to be aware of the need to ensure appropriate education for all children with disabilities. “The education of children with disabilities is a top national priority. Our nation’s special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), sets high standards for their achievement and guides how special help and services are made available in schools to address their individual needs (National Dissemination)”. This is my biggest challenge. I feel with the right tools and
There is a concern that the lack of involvement by CTE teachers in the Special Education program planning of students in their classes and the ability to adequately meet the variety of demands of these learners exists. The purpose of the study is to identify the involvement of CTE teachers in Special Education programming for SWD. This literature review focused on scholarly research and relevant documentation to frame information related to the following questions: 1) What are the perceptions of CTE teachers who teach students with disabilities? 2) How does involvement in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) by CTE teachers affect teacher perceptions of their preparedness and ability to work with students receiving special education services?

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” – Henry B. Adams. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to play a big part in children’s education, which is why I have decided to enroll for an education course. I believe that educators have a lifelong impact on their students and on the development of resilience. Thus, I aspire to inculcate my love for learning into the next generation, by influencing and inspiring children all through their formal education.
My name is Alyssa Fusco and I am on the path to becoming a special education teacher. In the course of my first few weeks in the Special Education course, I am not only learning how to be a better teacher, but training my mind in such a way that I can improve the lives of others. My interest in working with students with disabilities stems from my experience with Senior Experience at Calhoun High School. This program has developed a framework for my future career aspirations by observing how not only the faculty can make a difference in these students lives, but also the teachers facilitate an environment that promotes the integration between students with and without disabilities. Through mainstreaming these students, Calhoun High School showed me what type of difference I could make in the world through combining my passion for teaching and the place students with disabilities hold in my heart.
Teachers provide students with valuable information, strengthen the thinking skills of our children, and equip students with the advanced knowledge and superior skills required to thrive in a diverse range of industries. However, certain mental disabilities can impair the ability for students to process information and learn material in regular classroom and curricula settings. A significant challenge confronting the United States is the excessive rates at which overaged special education students drop out of school. Educational systems can encourage overaged special education students to remain in school by providing efficacious tutorial services, customizing programs to accommodate

While working towards my degree, I continued to volunteer as a buddy for Special Olympics Missouri and was a nanny for two children, 10 and 12, with ADD/ADHD. I assisted the children with organizational skills in regards to home and school. I also worked with doctors at Brain Balance when one of the children was attending therapy sessions with them to help control her ADD/ADHD without taking medication. These children quickly became a huge part of my life and solidified my love for children and
A learning support teacher may be a case manager who runs a learning support program or unit. A case manager’s primarily responsible is to promote and facilitate inclusion within the school. Case managers should be responsible for managing verification processes of students with special needs and developing and reviewing EAP (Educationally Adjusted Profiles). They need to collect and monitor detailed information about the progress and academic and behavior difficulties of the targeted students who may be referred by mainstream teachers and then create individual student profiles so as to have a holistic picture of students’ academic achievement, personal development and well-being. Theses student data can lay a foundation for further designing and implementing and reviewing an Individual Education Program (IEP), short-term or long-term intervention plan as well as support programs tailored to the needs of the individuals to help students integrate in mainstream class and engage in learning activities.
The Educational Support Services Team (ESST) is an integral part of how a school runs. The ESST, provides “[…] coaching, mentoring, training and support to the classroom teacher in accommodations, instructional strategies and other related practices” (ASD-W, p.1). The ESST are a part of the various programs that are available and developed for students within their school. They are also a part of any initiatives and curriculum development that is there to support classroom teachers in better reaching students with special needs. Within this framework, the EST-R and the other members of the ESST are required to Problem Solve for those that are at risk and need targeted support
