Sky High is filled with special effects. The special effects are used to emphasize the theme and style of the film. The use of special effects is very sufficient throughout the entire film. The variety of effects ranges from the mimics of comic book pages to crafty backgrounds and super powers. For example, the movie starts off by presenting the background information of Will Stronghold’s family through a comic book illustration. Sky High also contains more fun through special effects. All of the super powers were demonstrated through the usage of special effects. For instance, during the scene where the students are going through power placement, the viewers can see each of the characters’ super power because the students had to overcome

The dispute concerning why superheroes have become so popular recently is mainly due to the modernized special effects available to the film industry. This is because designers have a further diversity of options to work with, as well as better software and technologies than what they had 20 years ago. These special effects make the movies more realistic than ever. The article “The Rise of Superhero Films” by the New York Film Academy gives an insight on modernized special effects, the critical factor that's presently used in every superhero movie to date. It states
In the final scene from Thelma and Louise the cinematographic effects are astounding. Panning, reaction shot, and dissolve are all used in the last section of the movie clip extensively. These three cinematographic terms are perfect for this clip because of the intensity they add to the scene. Through the use of panning, reaction shot, and dissolve the actresses portray two extreme emotions of desperation and the tranquility of freedom.
To make those special effects in the movie you would make all human and non-magical beings less detailed. Make them dull, dark colors, little make-up. And all the magical creatures in bright bold colors double the make-up. Have all their surroundings dull in the background when they are on screen and have them stand out with the special effects. The monsters have fine detail and dark colors but they are dark VIBRANT colors so that they look ugly and scary he makes them show up when least expected so that it surprises you and makes the humans fear him so that you would fear them as well. And the goddesses will show up when needed most you make them glowing and the good guys so that they seem more beautiful than they are. You have them play the parts of fair and understanding that way they are more intriguing and have an unexplainable beauty that you feel attracted to, they are the opposite of the monsters.
This Gary Ross film is particularly captivating because of its revolutionary use of selective coloring. Furthermore, it broke an all-time record with more than 1700 special effect shots. Not only did this film create history with its special effects, but also utilized them in order to address very important themes of
One kind of cinematic technique Tim Burton uses is lighting. In the film Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, it shows us lowkey lighting when the chocolate factory shut down, it was gloomy and dark. In the film Edward Scissorhands, there was lowkey lighting when Peg walked into Edward’s house, it was dim and murky. Lastly the movie Big Fish shows us highkey when William
Nolan creates an atmosphere where one scene will move steadily to the next, building anticipation until all hell breaks loose. Nolan has really done his research with this film as he explores a deeper meaning in good vs. evil. It makes the film seem so real life unlike most fantasy superhero movie. For some reason, the viewer can actually imagine this happening in real life. The lights and effects are very promising.
In each of the movies, they had the same types of special effects. The biggest special effect used is fading in and fading out between shots. Only years before is when special effects came about. They helped the movie become more interesting since they were black and white, and also silent. Along with that, they helped movies develope throughout the ages, and even influenced some of the movies today.
The opening sequence sets the tone for the rest of the film. It depicts a midair
With all the changing colors and unusual effects, the movie has a "high", or euphoric, look to it, as things seemed all over the place. Examples would be the circus scene with the song, "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite", with all that CGI effects that made it obvious that it wasn't real. Another example would be Max in the song,
After the famous intro “a galaxy far far away” the movie does not hesitate to start things off fast, setting you right in the middle of a intergalactic space battle from the point of view of our two favorite characters, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The action filled scenes of the movie proves to be most prominent of the time, using CGI to their fullest ability. CGI allows the movie choreographer to enhance movie scenes, boosting the overall reality and intensity. The final duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan shows off the great use of special effects, including a hellish planet theme for the audience. The performance shows off high quality light saber fights, breaking down facilities over a river of lava, over a river of lava and falling objects from all over leading into a great lava fall. The movie expands over a variety of worlds such as the breathtaking city of Coruscant, the green natural world of the Wookies, the hell world of Mustafar and many more. The great use of technology gives me more than a satisfying feeling when compared to it’s
Throughout this film many techniques are used. This film has many fast motions, slow motion, and freeze frames. One effect that was used was cinematography. This is when there is manipulation of the film strip by the camera in the shooting phase and in the development phase. He also used the technique called superimposition. This is where there is more than one image on the same film strip. He also used split screen framing to focus on different movements and spaces at the same time.
Jennifer Ung Physics 121 5/14/2017 Extra Credit There are many physics that were used in the film, “October Sky”. This focuses on a kid named Homer and his friends who are trying to build rockets that include the ideas of physics. Some scenes in the movie The Day After Tomorrow were very plausible and likely to occur in real life, while others were simply made from special effects and could most likely never occur in day-to-day life.
IT has also changed the way movies are shot particularly through application of film special effects. The film industry heavily relies on illusions to simulate imaginary events in a story (McClean, 2007). Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is another key technology that is applied to special effects to enhance films. CGI is mainly used in special effects to enable filmmakers to control the scenes instead of using many extra actors. This has simplified film production and reduced the costs incurred. A lot of movies especially those classified under fiction, action, and horror genres rely on CGI.
