From the common ancestor to organisms as complex as the Bonobo, certain species have changed to the point where they cannot be seen as related to their ancestors at all. The Bonobo (Pan paniscus), the Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae), the domestic Dog (Canis lupus familiaris), the Rhinoceros (Rhinocerotidae), Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus), Lion(Panthera leo), and American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) are all prime examples of organisms that are all related to one common ancestor.
Of this group of species, Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is likely to have evolved first, coming from organisms who briefly developed lungs on land before returning to the ocean. Shortly after, the Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) is believed to have evolved from prehistoric Dinosaurs, as the bird also lays eggs. The modern day Emu can be linked back to prehistoric birds, which were derived from Dinosaurs that lived in trees. Over time, certain birds became accustomed to land, meaning Emus had a significant advantage over other smaller birds, such as leg size. With such a structural advantage, Emus were able to run at 50 kilometers per hour, making predators much less of a predicament. Next to …show more content…

The Lion and Domesticated Dog were believed to come from similar ancestors of that of the Rhinoceros, but later split down a different evolutionary path. Over time, only lions with the best traits were able to survive, forming the strong and quick lions seen today. On the contrary, Domesticated Dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) were artificially selected by humans for certain desired traits. The Bonobo (Pan paniscus) is the most evolved species in this group of organisms. Like humans themselves, bonobos have opposable thumbs, one of the key signs of mankind. In fact, bonobos are believed to share 99% DNA with
