After giving my PowerPoint speech and reviewing the video I think I did okay for speech 3. My anxiety levels were much lower this time around. Along with that, I did not have a pounding heart going into the speech. However, I think that largest factor behind this was due to the use of both my PowerPoint and note cards as a reference to better recall the information I researched.
As a whole, I believe I met a few of the goals that I set for myself in the speech 2 self-analysis. In this speech, I did feel as though I came better prepared to talk about my topic in comparison to how I felt for speeches 1 and 2. In regards to practicing my speech, I can say I put aside at least half a day to review and work out the kinks. This helped me

One of those goals is to once again improve upon the flow of my words and sentences. As it did appear that I stumbled over a few things during my speech. Another goal of mine is to try and reduce the amount of hand gestures that I perform. However, I think this will be a hard habit to quell due to the fact that I have been doing it so long.
The key to doing good on my last speech, however, will come down to the recollection of my own material. Also, I will have to try and expand upon my vocal range as it seems like I still stick with one average tone.
In regards to the creation of my PowerPoint, I feel as though it served its purpose for speech 3. I brought in my information slowly through the use of animations and as a result, I do not think I overwhelmed the class with information. At the same time, I was able to read the information I included on the PowerPoint and expand upon that information as well without the class getting too far ahead of me. One part that I believe that truly helped me was the way in which I displayed and recited my definitions of addiction. Since I did not include the definition on the slide and instead only displayed the words, it cut down considerably on the clutter and allowed me to add in what I wanted. Because of this, I would certainly use the PowerPoint again, but I do think I would make a few minor modifications to the text and
Dr. La Gerche gave an overall capable speech. His PowerPoint was well put together. It used dark colors that displayed well on screen and didn’t have paragraphs of text. The graphics were extremely effective some were
Improvements can help any person no matter their experience with public speaking. I need to practice timing my animations with my PowerPoint. In terms of improvements, I need to be able to introduce a brief history of the
I also believe that I was well prepared with my speech. I would go over my speech numerous times a day so that I knew what I was going to say. I practiced
Generally speaking, the class discussion and fishbowl assignment were really helpful reminders regarding the upcoming speech. The class discussion was a reminder of the readings content, such as the focus on body language, organizational patterns, and
My visual aid was the strongest part about my speech. I brought in the ingredients to make Tiramisu to show which brands I like to use for the recipe. I also prepared Tiramisu for the class as my hold interest technique. To relate the topic to the audience, I told them that they could make this recipe when they want to impress someone. My credibility was also convincing as I informed the class I had researched and compiled the best recipe. My introduction in general was concise and convinced the audience pay attention to the rest of my speech. I also thought my tone was conversational and not too formal.
In Conclusion I feel I did a good job on my informative speech. My preparation needs work, but my content and my ability to tone down the facts helped to pull everything together. I can always use more practice, but I feel this speech went better than my
Overall, I achieved my speech calmly and confidently. I scored myself a 6 in this category because I did not rush the speech and I did not have a shaky speaking voice. I also scored myself a 6 for having no distracting behaviors. My feet were glued to the ground and a did not play with
One of the problems I faced was after many hours of practicing, I still found my self still having a memorization issue. Due to that reason, my speech was a little here and there. However, I believe after my speech the audience had a fundamental knowledge of my topic.
When I gave my speech, I felt confident. I don't exactly have a fear of public speaking- anyone who knows me could tell you that. I looked out to the entire audience for the entire speech because I didn't use note cards. I also kept my energy up throughout the speech which helped keep the audience focused on the speech. I made some jokes, and the audience laughed at most of them, which was a good feeling. But because I failed to fully memorize the speech, there were times that I was left trying to figure out the exact phrasing, which took away from the performance slightly, even though I don't believe it was that big of a deal. I also made a pun by ending my speech with "My speech is all ogre now" and very few people caught it. This was probably due to my poor
Create a 5-6 minute presentation using PowerPoint visuals. Make sure your PowerPoint follows the guidelines discussed in class. The purpose of the presentation should be to inform the audience. Your presentation should reflect a topic, theme, or issue relevant to your major. For ideas of topics, you may consider looking at issues of Crains’ Chicago, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, cnn.com, The Huffington Post, NPR.org, Slate, Wired, or industry-specific papers/journals in your area of study.
- What I did well during my speech was looking at my audience. I was always facing my audience and have a quick view to my PowerPoint. I believe I did well on these aspects because I wasn’t like the other students always looking at the PowerPoint and not even facing the audience. I know this is a public speaking class and the point is to talk to our audience while facing them.
Of course I was the first to be called up to give my introduction speech! Perhaps because my professor knew me so well? Who knows… but I was actually glad that I was chosen first because I get to set the bar without having to worry about competing with the previous speeches. So with that positive mindset, my anxiety levels were really low. On a scale from one to ten I’d say I was a solid two! As soon as I was about to speak I observed my audience, their faces, movements, and eyes. All the attention was on me and I got right into my zone.
I thought my informative speech went really well. Compared to my shield speech, it was a major improvement. I spent time going over what I’ve researched before. I made my visual aids, and organized everything that I wanted to say. I still felt very nervous in front of the class, but I felt more confident because I was very solid in what I was talking about.
I spent several hours over the past week gathering information and creating the Power Point for my speech. After I had all of my information gathered, I wrote my outline. I then practice my speech once every day and twice the night before the day of the speech. In total, I practiced the speech around five or six times.
The first speech was the Most Embarrassing Moment speech. I honestly was still so nervous to record this even though I would just be looking at my computer screen. It felt kind of weird, almost as if I was video chatting with myself. After I memorized my speech and sent in my recording, I immediately assumed that I failed because the professor would think that I was too close to the screen or I was too loud or I moved my head around a lot. Then I ended up getting an A on it. Everything I thought that I did wrong was either irrelevant or did not distract from my presentation as a whole. Since I only missed one point, I can say that what I did well was all the
