I guess you all know my speech topic, that’s right the topic today is weed 101. Probably one of you did believe that my speech topic is weed 101 because of the stereotypes about all Jamaicans smoking weed, but no my topic today is not weed 101 the topic is over coming pressure and stereotype.
Today I will be sharing the pressure of growing up in Jamaica and not smoking and also the stereotypes I faced in the U.S.
Let us start by going back to high school. One day I was walking from school with my friend. Now walking down I started to smell the fresh marijuana scent, now in Jamaica it I not uncommon to smell marijuana but what was uncommon I that 8 minutes of walking the cent was still there. So I sniffed my friend’s bag and I asked him what’s
Marijuana, is a drug from the Cannabis plant that is intended for medical or recreational use. The main part of cannabis and what makes it so dangerous is THC one of the many known chemicals in the plant. Cannabis can be used in many ways including smoking, ingestion through food, or as an extract. My name is Timur Krapivin and I was caught being under the influence of drugs on school grounds. The specific drug that I was caught with was marijuana in the form of an edible. A weed brownie is one of the many forms that marijuana comes in. I regret everything that I did and now know that my decision was very wrong and could have harmed the ones I cared about the most. The substance Abuse Intervention Program really helped me realize how dumb I was for taking this drug. I put my friends and family in danger because it was my first time and I didnt know what was going to happen or how my body would react to it. The main reason for why I did this drug is because I was curious and wanted to try something new. I know now that this decisions was very irresponsible and dumb. I will definitely think before I act now and use the problem solving skills that I learned in the class. I will make better decisions in the future because I want to be able to reach my goals and have a successful life. I can't do these things by wasting my life on drugs. Marijuana is a very dangerous drug, it affects our community in many ways, and has a long history behind it.
"Marijuana is the second most popular drug after alcohol in the country today. So many people smoke marijuana that the numbers alone seem to legitimize and condone its presence in people's lives. Yet, even in moderation marijuana is not 'safe.' Somehow this information had not filtered down to people who think they are smoking a fairly innocuous drug. Our society perpetuates the myths about pot being a fun, harmless, recreational drug. These myths feed into people's denial of marijuana's problems" (Baum 6). However, the abuse of marijuana is a problem. It is not only a personal problem, but also more importantly a social problem. Throughout history marijuana has been used to serve various purposes in many
Thesis: There is a significant amount of attention in today’s world on weather or not to legalize marijuana. The prohibition of marijuana is holding up the improvement of social and economic developments.
Marijuana use is on the rise, especially among teenagers and young adults. With the recent laws passed in eight states about legalizing medical marijuana , many stand divided when it comes to this never ending debate, but I firmly believe that this miracle working drug should be legalized throughout the United States.
Humans have been using medicine to salve our wounds, physical and mental, since near the beginning of our species. It is something we used throughout the ages though we haven’t always used the same means achieve it. We’ve used “magic” elixirs, prayer, mercury, lobotomies, and other things that just weren’t effective methods of healing anyone. Today, we have vaccines, pills, antibiotics, and other medicine that has kept us going thus far in life. The medicine I want to inform you about today is Marijuana. Marijuana holds many medical uses.
“Weed is addictive and is gateway drug. You shouldn’t smoke it.” This is a common misconception about Marijuana that a variety of people believe. This is because they do not know the history of it and what is in the Marijuana that makes it, what people say is “addictive.” They also probably do not know that there are disadvantages and advantages of using Marijuana. At the end of the day, it is really the choice of the user. But people should become more aware of where Marijuana originated from, what it is made from and the pros and cons of smoking it if they choose to.
Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is a plant used to produce hemp fiber and as a psychotropic drug. There are many ways to consume the plant, but most often, it is consumed through a cigarette. Over many years, marijuana has been looked at as a gateway drug and something attached to violence and addiction. Users of marijuana have been stereotyped to abuse the drug to get high rather than to medicate their bodies. The hip-hop and hippie communities shed a light on marijuana that gave society a good excuse to view it negatively. Many have overlooked the benefits of marijuana by being blinded by the stereotypes society has created. Despite the negative outlooks, there are an abundance of benefits that using
While the entire world is going gaga about medical cannabis and its effect, there is still millions and billions worth of money invested by pharmaceutical and research companies on understanding more about the functioning of this herb. However, much of the research is still at infancy.

A lot of people have the notion that marijuana is just for the main purpose to make people “high” (a feeling of high attitudes and euphoria) that is why it is still considered an illegal drug in some states. Today I want to inform you that this natural drug is doing miracles for people with many serious health diseases. African Americans are the topic I selected, born in Brooklyn New York the year of 1963, where skin color never mattered to me while living in a melting pot where people from all nationalities migrated. Equally important, I am proud of the accomplishments and strides African Americans have pushed to achieve. On the positive side, I find the good in everyone and believe every American has something to offer in displaying their gifted talents. Provided that, I could be bitter to other races from an incident that happened over forty years ago while visiting my grandparents in Northampton County North Carolina. My grandfather drove us to the local store, as soon as I got out the car with my mom, a little Caucasian girl spit on me, my mom just
Illegal substances are also heavily referenced by the interview candidates. Candidates cited a diverse range of reasons for integrating drugs into their sharing practices. The term ‘drugs’ is mentioned 32 times altogether. In an interview conducted by Joseph Lingle (JAL2, jalingle), the candidate specifically speaks about how sharing marijuana has positive effects of friendships and serves to eliminate the constraints of strict social situations. He says, “One must believe that pot is not inherently bad and spreading it does no harm. Requires it being shared with you. Less the actual drug, but rather the social situation. Alone, you don’t notice certain elements of the high. Introspection during the outward-ness of a social setting. Depth in the relations, being introspective together. A freeing of the mind. The high creates transcendence of social ques through a common euphoria. Certain laws of social propriety are relaxed.”
In this research paper, we will be discussing one specific herb, Marijuana, as there are many misconceptions around it rendering it illegal, and we will attempt to argue with its unfounded illegality. What is Marijuana? Where, how and why is it consumed? What are recurrent misconceptions? First, we will be talking about the origins of the plant and where it is mainly found and grown, then we’ll be discussing the various uses for it and its effects on consumers, to finish off with its legality and position in today’s
You get a phone call saying that your mom just died. You don’t even have to ask what caused her death, you already know the answer. Your mom has been fighting pneumonia and respiratory infections. The reason why she got these lung diseases was because she was smoking marijuana. Who would have expected that this drug would lead to death. Many people are becoming addicted to marijuana, leading them to not be successful in life. People want to have their own rights, but if everyone decided to do what they wanted, our nation wouldn’t be where it is today. This is why legalizing this drug would lead to more addicts in our country, uneducated people, and deaths.
Despite how certain individuals might feel about the changes that are set to take place, marijuana is not going anywhere. Also identified as pot, weed, or cannabis, marijuana plays a substantial part in California’s culture and business revenue. The usage of weed has been handed a ruthless reputation since the great depression. In those times, marijuana usage came to be primarily linked as the cause of violence, crime and all sorts of deviant behaviors, which led to the laws on marijuana. Although now, people are starting to shift their outlook drastically due to misleading assumptions towards marijuana usage. There are numerous people with illnesses that smoke marijuana due to its benefits of relieving pain. At one point in time, marijuana
The legalization of marijuana will make pot harder to buy for kids under the age of eighteen. It might seem counter-intuitive to some, but illegal weed is much easier to acquire than regulated marijuana because weed dealers do not check ID’s. One third of sixteen through seventeen year olds say marijuana is the easiest thing to buy, not cigarettes, alcohol, nor prescription drugs. By keeping weed illegal we are letting unregulated pot dealers control the marijuana market. By letting these unregulated pot dealers control the marijuana market parents are not protecting their kids from access to marijuana. On the other hand aggressive enforcement of ID carding for minors, combined with public education have led to some of the lowest rates of
