For my personal speech, we had to pull three items to describe us from the past, present, and future..My first item for the past was my wrestling patch because I was a dedicated wrestler who gave my best everyday to the sport. My second item was a Jack Daniel bottle because I drank with my friend to enjoy life while I have it to release stess and moivate each other to be the best we can. My third item was an athetic tape to show I am in school studying to be an athletic trainer for my career. For my demonstration speech, I describe how to properly cook a kabob from scratch on what you need of food and spices, prepping it, and cooking it at the end on a grill. For my informative speech, I informed everyone about emotional abuse. I talked about what is it, how people get it by being lonely and unloved, what it cause people to do like depression and suicide, and on how to treat it. I also mention on how I turned out, the lucky one who affect turned out fine, and I end up being normal with no big effect to ruin my life. For my final speech, the persuasive speech, I tried to persuade my class on why we should maintain our body to be strong and healthy, so we do not get obese, and what we can do if we are overweight on how to lose weight. For my first speech, personal narrative, I felt confidence because it was a small about myself, so I was able to give the speech fine. But before I gave the speech, I remember my hand were shaking when I pulled out my items to show to the
This was something I was concerned about because when rehearsing for my speech I was worried the points were unbalanced but during the speech I did not feel like I spoke more about one topic than the other. I think it helped that I recognized this during rehearsing, so I was conscious of it during my presentation. Another thing I think I did well was my vocalized pauses. My um's & and's. Although I am aware that I still used vocalized pauses, I think it was a lot less frequent than in my first speech. I could definitely improve on a few things for my next speech. I feel that for my next speech I could improve on being relaxed and calming myself down. I need to remind myself I know what I am talking about and not get so tense and shaky during the presentation. Also I need to work on my eye contact. I looked at the crowd, but they were glances. And short ones. I need to extend my eye contact length and width. I need to focus and not reading from my cards and holding the eye contact for longer than a
My personal speech was based on an informative and demonstrative structure based on the AR-15 rifle. My more compassion and nerdy personality came out the most because I know a lot of people like and dislike the AR and I had to talk about the tragic events that have happened where children and adults have been killed by it but at the same time, the rifle has a lot of history with Americans and is seen by some as a pride and joy. The military versions of it have defended our nation from foreign and domestic enemies. My nerdy side for my interest in wanting to know how things work or the engineering aspect of it. I felt like I did engage the audience but some things I would have done to improve my speech would have been to make more eye contact and walked around the room showing my classmates the mechanical parts
Both authors Margaret Peterson Haddix from “My People” and “Speech to the Young” portray a message you should make most of the opportunity that comes along and don’t let anything bring you down.
Hi, I am Madhav and I’ll be talking about the preservation of Chinese UNESCO world heritage sites. Millions of people are coming to UNESCO World Heritage sites, which puts the sites at risk of being damaged. Contrary to this, there is an economic boost to the rural areas where the heritage sites lie. The article I’ll be talking about is titled “Tourism boom threatens China's heritage sites” and written by Katie Hunt, a senior digital producer for CNN international who edits their China section. The editorial was published on 14th of August 2012.
One of the best speech assignments that I liked the most was the Persuasive Informational speech presentation. I like this assignment because it was a group assignment where each individual has to be creative. What made the best was that we work as a team. We figured out what we going to present to the class. But I think what it made it the best was that we helped each other on what we were going to present. For example, I did not know what to do, until my classmate Travon gave me some ideas on what to present.

I think that for the most part I did pretty well on this speech, but of course there are areas to improve upon such as more eye contact and slowing down my speech. My speech was very thoroughly researched, spending a week on the research and then a week working on my delivery. Another thing I did well on was I had absolutely no anxiety on this speech which is a huge improvement from my last speech when I was so concerned about forgetting a word or two and forgot most of my speech, resulting in me getting so nervous it was hard to deliver a speech! For this speech I wrote it, and then I read it, summarized it and wrote down notes on my summary so it was a lot easier for me to remember. It also helped tying the persuasive speech into my informative speech because I had extra information on the subject from my research from the previous speech.
While many of our favorite sweets have ancient origins that date back thousands of years- fudge is a relatively recent invention.
Each speech throughout public speaking was delivered by the use of unique speaking styles and techniques. I felt the speeches delivered- personal narrative, redefinition, advocacy, and commemorative- built on each other. This allowed myself as well as other students to effectively use old speaking techniques while learning to adapt new techniques. The goal of these various speaking techniques was to keep the attention of the audience while trying to get the overall message of the speech across. Although the first few speeches were difficult and made me feel nervous, with time, I felt more relaxed and confident while delivering my speeches. I have always learned from mistakes and practicing in anything in life. This same concept applied to
A few seconds can change the future, a few seconds can determines one’s fate, a few seconds can save a life, and a few seconds saved mine. I am an atheist, and I only believe in what I can see, and what is right in front of me.
You're walking home after a good night with friends or family. You're 29 years old and Your flat is 700 m away with your husband or wife is awake waiting for you to open the door. But that moment never happened imagine walking in the streets with a hopeful light showing the way it's reaching 1 AM and you're walking past your local chemist you're unaffected by the alcohol see you calm and don't walk astray. Imagine walking down that this was your final walk. Knowing that there was someone behind you. Your 400m away from the safety of your home. Until all the sudden a man is forcing you into a dark laneway and the rest will be history would you die that night, you'll be raped and killed your story would end and your laughter would end. Your body will be found six days later 500 km away from where you were killed
My first speech was a group project. The group members were Mckayla, Alex, Jon, and of course me. We decided to give our speech on “How technology has affected face to face communications” because it is a very wide topic and nowadays a lot of people are lacking basic communication skills. We as a group came up with this decision unanimous because we wanted to inform our classmates on how powerful and harmful technology is. I personally enjoyed this topic because we are living in a society that depends on technology. Everything that we do involves the use of technology, and I thought that it would be interesting for the students to reflect on how technology is changing their lives. An example of how influential technology is could be smart phones which are so powerful that they could not only change what we do or how we do it but they also change who we
What aspects does The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie (1915) make the textbook “stand out” and provide a thorough yet specific understanding when presenting a speech? Carnegie exploits a variety of “efficiency” in his following chapters—three, four, five, seven—providing real-life examples, metaphors, and advice.
Today, we will be speaking about my personal goals when it comes to public speaking and what I hope to gain from the course I am taking at John Jay College through Borough of Manhattan Community College. Personally, I believe to set a goal for myself can be very open-ended, with the various outcomes there are when learning to communicate fluidly as well as speak in public. Depending on the size of the crowd or the content of my particular speech and my goal at the end of each speech. To encompass all of my personal goals, it would be easiest to say that I would like to have a better grasp of communication in general and to be able to express my personal thoughts and ideas in a way that is crystal clear to the receiving party. These may seem like small things to many, but for someone like myself who often struggles with getting my point across in a succinct way it is rather important.
It is 7:17am on a frisky Tuesday Morning here as I write these words to you.
