Graham Hill gave a speech to many people at a Technology, Entertainment, and design (TED) conference in March of 2011 explaining why if Americans have less “stuff” it will bring them more happiness. This speech was recorded for everyone to be able to see and refer to and know why he believes less “stuff” is equal to more happiness. Graham Hill’s speech was about getting rid of items to live smaller, and in turn, living cheaper. Hill would use items that have multiple functions so he is getting use out of the smaller amount of space that he has.The speaker uses various types of logos, a mode of logic, to convince the audience that it was in fact better to live smaller with less “stuff”. One of the strongest modes of logic Graham Hill uses in his speech is logos: using statistics or facts to persuade someone. In his speech, Graham Hill uses many statistics to prove how living smaller can make people happier. He stated, “We Americans have about three times the amount of space we did 50 years ago...and perhaps not coincidentally, our happiness levels flat-lined over the same 50 years” (Hill). This quote is saying that since Americans living spaces have increased America's happiness levels as a whole have gone down. This persuaded the audience because if Americans were happier when they had less items in a household then if a person is not satisfied with their life they will want to get rid of items in the household so they will be satisfied. Another way Hill persuaded the
In our lifetime a lot of unusual things will happen, some good and some bad. My speech in particular is about one of the bad things that has happened in our parents, maybe even grandparents lifetimes. This case is frightening and disturbing, but the most shocking part is how he doesn’t remember what he did or how he did it. All he remembers is being taken into custody and an abnormal loss of teeth. My information is from “my life among the serial killers”, written by Helen Morrison, an interview from CBS news, and an article written by one of the detectives assigned to the case. In “my life among the serial killers”, Morrison tells about her time hypnotizing “Baby faced” Richard Macek and the horrifying story of what he did.

“The Atlanta Exposition Speech” by Booker T. Washington, “The Talented Tenth” but W.E.B. DuBois, and “The Negro’s Place in American Life at the Present Day” by T. Thomas Fortune were written during the end of the nineteenth century when African Americans were faced with great challenges on a range of different levels. These documents are very like one another considering they are all addressing the same issues, but I also feel like each of them are unique from one another because of the person who wrote them. Washington focuses more on an industrial education so the blacks can go to school. He has the whites to believe that it will also affect them and make things better for them at the time and that they will
Robert Gray most definitely provokes thought and stirs emotion through an effective use of language and techniques used in his poems. One of his major messages are those connected with mans effect on the environment and our constant need to create something new and yet, forget about what we already have and where that ends up. Also the sense of our society almost becoming, un-Australian and very international.

In one of the most watched Ted talk videos, “The Key To Success- Grit,” recorded in May 9 2013, the speaker Angela Lee Duckworth explains how the strongest performers in their fields were typically not the ones with the highest IQ’s, but the ones with the most amount of Grit. What is that? Angela defines Grit to be the passion and perseverance for a long-term goal and to go through with it with no quitting. She then goes on and talks about the studies and their results relating to pure Grit being the answer. Although her her speech is moving and brings hope to those who don’t think they can do much with a low IQ, her reasoning seems to not carry enough evidence.
As first stated by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, the art of rhetoric in persuasive speaking is based upon the usage of the three key components, logos, ethos and pathos. Logos representing the usage of logic and reasoning within the speech or text, ethos representing the writer or speaker’s credibility and pathos representing how the speaker or author establishes an emotional connection with the audience. In former president Bill Clinton’s 2012 democratic national convention he relies heavily upon Aristotle’s persuasive speaking techniques to help convince the participants of the convention and those watching at home to reelect the nominee of the Democratic Party, current

The Alabama Constitution of 1901 requires the executive to provide a written report of the condition of the state, as well as an estimate of the budget. Though this written report has since come to include a lengthy speech of various legislative proposals the Governor wishes to promote. In this year's State of the State address, Governor Bentley provided a few of his legislative goals, such as a comprehensive prison reform and growing the state education system. Though there is a requirement that a budget is a part of this report, Governor Bentley made little mention to any financial matters. Though Governor Bentley spoke for over an hour in his State of the State Speech, his speech fell short because of the additional focus upon the past, excessive story telling, and the absence of a clear plan for his primary legislative objectives for the remainder of his term.
Imagine a place where everyone is accepted for who they are. A place where kids can discover their true calling and begin to pursue it. A place where the whole community is united in a bond of friendship and trust. No, this place is not heaven, it is South Pointe. I can’t believe that three years have gone by so fast. Three years of learning how to deal with so many classes. Three years of meeting so many great teachers that changed my way of thinking. Three years of making new friends and discoveries that have made my time here at South Pointe so memorable. Here, at South Pointe, I evolved not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. It helped me learn that it’s never too early to find out what your true passion or career goal
In class we were shown a recording of the speech, “A call to men”. The first thing I noticed was the title, which made me immediately assume it was going to be a female speaker that was going to speak about feminism; or something along those lines. To see a man giving the speech grabbed my attention instantly. The man giving the speech was Tony Porter, and his audience was mostly women, who made me think, “Is this guy going to be giving a speech about feminism?” While listening to his speech I felt guilty for being quick to judge, because his speech was actually about growing up as a male, and being masculine is today’s society. While Tony Porter was giving his speech, he brought up stories that without a doubt every guy in our class could relate to that left many of us saying, “Wow”.

Eric Thomas is a well know profound motivational speaker. He was a former NFL player that has been through many speed bumps in his road to success. After the NFL he became a pastor, and soon stared giving motivational speeches for people all across the world. He has given a countless number of speeches but his “How Bad Do You Want Success” speech is what brought him great exposer. This speech took place at Michigan State University, intended for a group of college students. He was brought to do a motivational speech on success and how to be successful. The three main points he stressed throughout the speech were having heart, sacrifice, and dealing with pain. Although this speech was attended for the college students at Michigan State University, any person could listen to this speech and find motivation within them. As a current college student I find this speech very inspirational and motivating because I was able to relate to it, he was very passionate and emotional, and he kept it real.
