Gout is a global disease and is increasing in prevalence world. This extremely painful, inflammatory arthritis appears to be getting more and more common. There seems to be a worldwide trend towards gout patients getting younger, often occurring at the age of 30 and above.

The number of people being affected seems to be increasing because there has been an increase in the population on obesity, with high blood pressure and highly stressful lifestyle.

Once you are diagnosed with gout, your doctor would share with you that this is a lifetime condition and welcome you to the Club for Gout!

Initially when the doctor diagnosed me with gout and “signed” me involuntarily into the Club for Gout, I was in great despair and badly affected. The doctor has prescribed me with Colchicine, Allopurinol and painkillers. They are the “door gift” to the Club for Gout. In addition, a lifelong free “ticket” was given to me. That is a long list of food that I have to avoid to prevent gout attack.

To me, a food lover, enjoying time with my love ones, family members and friends over yummy and delicious food with wine have been a norm and part of my life. Being forced to join the Gout Club, I have to avoid a lot of my favorite food (such as soya bean drink, bean curd, crab, beef with red wine, my grandma’s delicious pork herbal soup boiled over many hours, durian, etc……). What is life without these delicious food? What is life when I have to watch others enjoy the food while I drool? I can see the sumptuous food served and smell the aroma of the food but I CAN’T EAT
