Aung San Suu demonstrates ethos in her speech by contrasting her father with the pacifism of Gandhi by stating: “The words used by Jawaharlal Nehru to describe Mahatma Gandhi could be applied to Aung San.” (page684). She uses that allusion to show her admiration for Gandhi, whom she identifies as “Abhaya”, the absence of fear from the mind. Aung San Suu strongly supports his immense contribution to human rights, peace, and non-violent resistance to fight oppression. She uses Gandhi as an example to persuade the reader that, just like him, she is worthy of trust and respect. She wants to show them that she has the same beliefs, same ideology as Gandhi, whom with his moral and methods brought down imperialism, colonialism and dictatorships. Kyi even continues to say that “there is an inevitable sameness” when she compares Gandhi to her father. A lot of attention focused on her because she is the daughter of once an influential man, so she knows that if she talks about him they would have no problem as to follow her.

“If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights once and for all.” On September 5, 1995, 180 countries came together in Beijing China to hear first lady Hillary Clinton 's speech about women 's rights. The leaders include the president of Burma, Thein Sein, and a famous politician of the country, Aung San Suu Kyi. The two groups comprise of the Sangha, which is a community of Buddhist monks, and the Rakhine Nationalities Development Group (RNDG), which is a political party in Myanmar. In 1991, Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize for forming the National League for Democracy and coincidently disapproved of violence and hoped that all ethnic groups could “cooperate in harmony.” Since then, she has denied any evidence of an ethnic cleansing, when asked about it in an interview and she has talked about the Rohingya Muslims, stating that “They are not our citizens.” The president, Thein Sein, has done many things to contribute to the ethnic cleansing. He has come up with ideas to end the ethnic cleansing, such as “expelling” the muslims from the country or getting the United Nations to “resettle” them somewhere else.
One contribution would be when she volunteered at the American Red Cross during World War one when many soldiers were injured and in need of assistance. Eleanor has demonstrated that she is a humanitarian in the way that she became a volunteer at a reform organization where she investigated sweatshops and witnessed the dangers of horrendous working conditions. Eleanor also helped feed those who were poor and had nothing to eat during the Great Depression. She was involved in the National Consumers League which exposed child labor and helped bring awareness to people everywhere. One of the most important factors in implementing change is to bring awareness and Eleanor made sure to do this. Eleanor also became the chair of the United Nations Human Rights Commission and was an important factor in creating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which is one of her legacies. This document consisted of all of the rights that humans were inherently entitled, was adopted and has influenced many other national constitutions. She joined the United Nations which is a world peace keeping organization. This enabled her to help people in other countries get the rights to vote, to speak publicly, and the right to get a job. Eleanor was also involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and attempted to end lynching and gain more rights for African Americans.
She kept reminding people that if they did not have the ability to stand up for their interest, the concessions won would be withdrawn in the future. Indeed, her historical significance rests imperatively on the influence she portended on the youths who changed the nations in 1960s. She is the one who responded to sit-ins through a meeting that led to non-violent coordinating committees of students. She also aided in developing its distinctive anti-hierarchical and democratic ethos as well as its emphasis on developing local leaders and community
There were many problems in society that no one knew of until Eleanor Roosevelt brought them to light. “It’s easy to stand with the crowd. It takes courage to stand alone.” Mahatma Gandhi said. Eleanor decided to do what was right and help people instead of going along with what other people thought. Her rough childhood pushed her to help people that were oppressed. Eleanor especially knew what it was like to be ignored.
Burma fought with the British in 1945 to prevent Japanese invaders from entering Burma during World War II. Aung San, leader of an anti-fascist movement popular since the struggle in Japan, built a military and political base to negotiate with Britain. According to Dulcinea, he was temporarily in charge of the government which stirred conflicts in Burmese ethnic groups, yet he proved to unify the nationalist movement. Fortunately, San signed a deal granting Burma independence from the British in 1947. However before the deal went into full swing, San and cabinet members were assassinated. These mournful deaths halted the advancement towards independence. In the midst of the 1988 unrest, Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of Aung Sun, returned to Burma to care for her mother. She remained in Burma due to her sudden interest in politics. On
The “Sphere of Influence” is located in Rossland, BC, a strong biking community in the West Kootenay. The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April 2015 by the community local Arts and Culture Council. It is created using old collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are pieced together to form a complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each piece of the sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent, but instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a rusted metal semi sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. There are all different sorts of bike wheels that make up this sculpture, some are colourful and from
It was her bravery that took her opinion to be spread all around the nations for her to be heard by the government that was led by men only, without the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst the women had fewer rights than men but thanks to Emmeline the women could stand up to their rights. Even when women were against her she would still strike for her rights just as the great leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
