The Sphinx and The Parthenon
Of the many great and noteworthy landmarks all over the world, perhaps two of the most recognizable and impressive are the Sphinx and the Parthenon. The Parthenon is over 2460 years old, and the Sphinx is even older. (By about 2000 years!) These structures are more than the wood, clay or stone they’re built of, they are symbols of the faith, strength and beauty of their cultures.
When you think about the Sphinx and the Parthenon, you think of ancient religious structures. That’s exactly what they are. Both the Sphinx and the Parthenon were built for religious purposes. Historians say that by the time of the New Kingdom in Egypt, The Sphinx was strongly associated with the god Horemakhet, another name being Horus of the Horizon. At the same time, The Parthenon is dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens, Greece. Both structures are strongly connected to religion, in fact, both structures purposes are solely religious. Both sculptures were believed to be powerful protectors of royalty both physically and spiritually. The lamassu were placed near entrances of palaces or king’s quarters, and the sphinx at the base of the Great Pyramid (a pharaoh’s palace in the afterlife) as well as various temples within Egypt.

The Sphinx is located in Giza, Egypt. Each day the sun rises in the east and sets in west. The ancient Egyptians were very superstitious, so everything on the western bank of the Nile River represented death to the Egyptians. It is believed that the Sphinx was a protector of the pyramids and buried people in the land because it was located on the western side of the Nile.
The Great Sphinx needed a lot of people to build. Both men and women worked on it and the only tools that they used were hammers, chisels, and axes. The philosophical ideas of Plato that relate to the Parthenon include whether the structure is an element of the Visible World or the Intelligible World. In my opinion, Plato would view the Parthenon as an object in the Visible World. The Parthenon is a one of a kind monument that is tangible and exists in our real world. The Parthenon is an architectural project and deals with forms of science and mathematics. Plato's view of science and mathematics are categorized as forms in the Intelligible World, which are intangible. Through analysis of illusory tactics, the Tripartite Soul, the simile of the line, and the artistic qualities of architecture, Plato's, as well as my view of the Parthenon will become

The two structures were very well built, however due to the fact that the Sphinx in Las Vegas was built just a few years back , it gave the designers the chance to make the new structure more modern and appealing. They used the old structure of the Sphinx in Giza to create a more modernized copy of the old one. One of the major differences I notice about the two structure is the color and line. The new object has more carvings in the face and body. You notice a shine to the Sphinx in Las Vegas, the colors and perfect carvings of the face and paws make it a perfect sculpture to look at.
