“With great powers come the great responsibility” There is one dialogue in the film Spiderman, “with great power comes the great responsibility”. It goes very coherently with the both the versions of the tale Riquet with the Tuft. In this article I would discuss the dynamics of power, their utilization at particular time, the character’s motives and thought process of particular way of utilizing that power that was bestowed upon them and their connection in the current society which would be the crucial part because it indicates how the old tales are true today as well. How powers people currently have in the smallest household are utilized for their personal and selfish motives? So the theme would be all related to power, which can support …show more content…
Unlike usual Perrault feminist ideas, this tale was somewhat different than usual. If we compare Bernard and Perrault in consideration of who owns power and the ways he/she utilizes it is somewhat is different. In Perrault’s tale firstly prince had the power to bless someone really stupid the intellectual capabilities that he/she might not have. In return princess was also given powers to give away good looks to someone. His tale was more concentrated on love that they both share. Bernard’s tale was more like a deal of qualities that the princess lacks and her story of gaining the qualities. In Bernard’s tale prince was given the power to bless someone good looks who he loves. The basic idea of prince getting this powers was same, him being really ugly but intellectually sound. To match the shortcoming of ugliness he was given this power so that he can find the right person for him. So power was really important part on which the whole tale revolves around, as also mentioned by Patricia Qualheim “She hesitates to marry Riquet, telling him on the day that she had promised to marry him, “Quite frankly, I admit that I haven’t made mind up yet on that decision (whether to marry him or not) and I
A classic example of a movie using the Hero's Journey framework is Spiderman. In the beginning Peter Parker lives in an ordinary world, he is a nerdy kid going to school. His call to adventure comes when he gets bitten by a radioactive spider, which gives him supernatural abilities and strength. He does not understand why he was given his abilities at first, so he refuses the call by using them for selfish reasons. His Uncle Ben could be could considered his mentor by teaching him that with great power comes great responsibility.
A hero is someone who overcomes his fears to help others. Joseph Campbell's monomyth, which contains the three parts of a hero’s journey, helps to understand the journey an ordinary person must embark on to become a hero. In the movie Spiderman, the main protagonist, Peter Parker, goes on a quest from living in the ordinary world in New York City who gets bitten by a radioactive spider which makes him gain superhuman strength and spider-like powers. He then goes on to fight crime and vows to protect everyone from danger. Peter becomes a true hero answering his call to adventure, meeting his mentor, refusing the call, facing tests, beating his greatest ordeal and returning with the elixir.
With power comes great responsibility. When people have too much power they don’t always know what to do with it. Power has a negative effect because those with too much become greedy with it.
Lori Baker-Sperry and Liz Grauerholz discuss the concept of female empowerment through beauty in their article “The Pervasiveness and Persistence of the Feminine Beauty Ideal in Children’s Fairy Tale.” Baker-Sperry and Grauerholz state that, “women willingly engage in ‘beauty rituals’ and perceive being (or becoming) beautiful as empowering, not oppressive” (712). Baker-Sperry and Grauerholz argue that in children’s fairy tales, the female characters see their beauty as their most useful tool and would undergo “beauty rituals” to attain this beauty. By being beautiful, the Fairy Queen is able to win the attention and loyalty of Lanval. Not only does the Fairy Queen receive power in this bond, but also Lanval himself finds good fortune in the form of physical wealth. To further emphasize the Fairy Queen’s beauty and the power she holds over the court, France uses the series of girls prior to the Fairy Queen’s entrance. This builds a sense of suspense and the fact that the Fairy Queen easily trumps the girls in beauty further emphasizes her superiority. By emphasizing the Fairy Queen’s bodily beauty, France is able to show the power the Fairy Queen has over Lanval and the court.
Marie de France’s demonstrated the fairy queen as a symbol for female empowerment when the fairy queen said, “I admonish you now, I command and beg you, do not let any man know about this. I shall tell you why: you would lose me for good if this love were known; you would never see me again or possess my body’ (Anthology, L 150, 124). She showed that the fairy queen was entitle as the fairy queen highlighted the consequences of not keeping their relationship in secret from everyone. Also, the fairy queen used the word “command” to show that she was entitled, yet she followed it by the word “beg you,” she used indirect method to clarify it.
In Anchorman, the plot structure has many elements of a comedy, including a hero seeking happiness, major and minor barriers to his goal, and a happy ending in which a new social society is created. In the first place, Ron Burgundy is the main hero of the movie. He’s a very successful anchorman in San Diego during the 1970s, and his goal is to be the best anchorman he can be and maintain his fame. In fairytales, royal women are typically regarded as delicate, sophisticated creatures, controlled by the kingdoms to which they belong. However, it is the strength within these women that is far more admirable than their outer appearance could ever be. This is why looking at royalty as perfection—a gift of beauty, wealth, and dignity—creates a widely known myth that hides the unattractive truth behind the royal life. Although you should always seek to look beyond the surface, “The Princess in the Suit of Leather” shows that upon deeper inspection you ultimately get hit with the harsh reality of conservative gender roles.

Uncle Ben from the Spiderman comics said, “With great power comes great responsibility.” When I was young I did not comprehend the extent of my ability or the consequences it would bring. In my family, I am known for my humor and for impersonating my favorite comedians, “Bud Abbott and Lou Costello”. One Night, I performed some of their routines. For this performance, the living room was my stage and my older sister the audience.
Nearly all heroes are faced with a variety of inconceivable tasks which in turn help to overcome obstacles that the character may face. In Spider-Man, Peter Parker is forced to overcome these impediments so that he can help protect the people in his city. The task that first illustrates this quest is Spider-Man’s revenge on the man who killed his uncle and committed robbery. To catch this criminal, though, Spider-Man has to learn how to use his mind: thinking quickly and on-the-spot. Not only does it take courage for Spider-Man to defeat this criminal, it takes quick reflexes that only his “spidey senses” can offer him. In the end, Spider-Man tricks the man and is successful in turning him into the police. Another example of a
This is one of the leading NGOs that raise homeless and displaced children from all over Pakistan and has centers in all the big cities. Their main office is in Lahore where I worked as a volunteer. They take complete responsibility of shelter, food, clothing and education of these children. Being part of a team of volunteers, I assisted in fundraising for children by organizing various carnivals and music festivals. The overwhelming response from all classes of the society, in terms of funds, physical or moral assistance, especially after hearing about the plight of these children, was more than anything I could have ever asked for. Nothing else has ever given me such pleasure as working for these children, playing with them on some weekends
When you think of a superhero one normally thinks of Spiderman, Batman, or Superman, but there were superheroes long before these characters were created. First one must understand that the basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more then someone who is a hero, but not just that once and for that one person, but someone who helps many people, or leads them. As time went by the number of people who were true heroes diminished and just
In the seventeenth century, English people migrated to the New World in search of riches such as gold and silver. When they discovered this was a futile venture, they began searching for different routes; one of which was Native American labor. These colonists were not prepared to establish a community and had little knowledge on how to grow crops or sustain themselves. This spurred the need for labor and caused a dramatic increase in the development of the indentured servitude system. Frethorne’s letter home illustrates the living conditions of the servants and accurately depicts many events mentioned in Period 2.
