Written and Spoken Language The language used in writing is different from the language used in everyday speech. Writing is permanent; once something is written or printed, it cannot be changed easily. On the other hand, speech is transient; the speaker can make a couple of corrections and change utterances as he speaks (Cali & Bowen, n.d.). Secondly, written text can communicate across time and space on the condition that the language is understood. Speech, unless recorded, is for immediate interactions (Cali & Bowen, n.d.). Thirdly, written language is mostly complex. Since written text is permanent, there is careful organization and choice of structure (Cali & Bowen, n.d.). The structure comprises of short and long sentences

The probably written equivalent would be:
Peter, I am not certain whether I will come for the party or not. Kindly, let me confirm to you later.
Mechanics
Mechanics are indispensable in writing. They are the elements that give meaning to any given piece of written work. Inappropriate spellings can communicate very different information from the intended one. For instance, the statement: “Hit for fifteen minutes” can be misleading if the writer meant to say, “Heat for fifteen minutes.” Secondly, punctuations, breaks the written work into portions that can be comprehended. Punctuations differentiate sets of sentences and clauses making it easy to understand the information being conveyed by the writer. They act as signposts to the direction that a written passage or a sentence is taking. With the appropriate punctuations, the right meaning is passed to the audience. For example, “Let’s eat grandma” – such a statement can be terrifying. However, introducing a comma makes a whole difference, “Let’s eat, grandma.” Similarly, proper formatting makes it easy to read and understand any written piece – this entails appropriate font style and size, paragraphs, and spacing. Without standard rules for use of mechanics, it is impossible to communicate through
Does Texting Affect Writing: A Critical Analysis of the Influence of Text Speak in Student’s Writing
We don’t even really understand most of our silly rules. They didn’t always exist".(wildfire). I disagree that spelling and punctuation are no longer important, I believe it helps us to understand their importance in clear communication. Even though language evolves with time, spelling and punctuation guidelines improve our ability to communicate. In our talks, whether online or offline, there's a chance of misunderstandings and confusion if there aren't clear guidelines.
In the day where technology is thriving, and the communication through email and text messages are now the common norm, there has been a steady decline and absence on the use of proper punctuation. The slow disappearance of punctuation standards, like commas and apostrophes, indicate the need for change towards the written world. Lynne Truss considers herself a stickler for punctuation, and her book, Eats, Shoots and Leaves addresses the minority of those who regard themselves as punctuation "sticklers" as well. Through the use of humor, figurative language such as relatable analogies and real life anecdotes, Lynne Truss creates a call to action for all the fellow punctuation sticklers: embrace proper punctuation, and require zero tolerance for those who use it incorrectly.
We read so we can remember. We write so we can remember. In his essay Foer writes, “The brain is always making mistakes, forgetting, misremembering, writing is how we overcome those essential biological constraints.” (Foer 161) Foer provides us with this statement to elaborate on how essential writing is to learning and remembering. Writing was very different than it is now. Spaces where not even used, the early form of writing, scriptio continua, was broken up by neither spaces nor punctuation. Foer would describe scriptio continua, “Where one word ends and another begins is a relatively arbitrary linguistic convention.” (Foer 163) Since scriptio continua was one long drawn out string of sounds it was hardly, if ever, read silently. With no punctuation the relationship between reading and writing played a much different role then it does today. Reading this type of text required the reader to already be familiar with what he or she wanted to stay. The reader had to memorize the text. By extension, reading is no different today. If we read, we must first have an understanding of what it is that we are reading. Understanding has become much easier to achieve due to advances in the organization of
Different ways of language techniques are used in every single literature. This is because language techniques can influences the reader, and gives a connection between an author and the audience himself. Not to mention, that without different language techniques, literature would not be interesting, or it wouldn’t exist at all. The speech “Give me liberty or give me death” by Patrick Henry, uses many language techniques through the whole speech, Henry uses this to connect himself to his audience.
Writing has changed in quite a few ways in the last couple of decades. Shakespeare writing is different than something ten years ago, just as something ten years ago is different than something current. The population adapts to the changes that occur within various aspects of society. But, this is because we are always creating new and unique ways to better the world we live in. Facebook and texting are two tools that changed the way we communicate, as well as, the way we write.
The intended goal of this exercise is to assist children in learning the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet while introducing them to the idea of recording data, as well as, improving their fine motor skills.
The 8th grade English Language Arts standard “ELAGSE8L2a.” requires students to use appropriate punctuation to signal a pause or a break in a sentence. Although the punctuation marks have similar functions, each exhibits a unique, stylistic purpose that follows conventions in English grammar. Generally, commas indicate short pauses, dashes indicate long pauses, and ellipsis indicate a break in a thought or the omitting of words
Every writer in existence has used language at some point in their lives, from infancy to adulthood. But, there is a much larger reason every writer writes at all. These writers use language to inspire people to act differently, or think differently based on the lessons there characters learned in their writing. These lessons are suppose to be the writer's way of conveying what they want to aspire people to possibly accomplish.
Another quality a writer should have in his or her paper is giving examples or things that the readers would find useful and use it themselves. In William Zinsser’s “The Act of Writing: One Man’s Method” he gives a lot of information on writing a paper and how to improve my writing skills. He talks about “editing, cutting and revising” (166). The one that I use the most, after learning from him, is the bracket method. He says that, “The brackets might surround the little qualifiers… sentence that… repeats what the previous sentence…”(167). I use the brackets idea and it makes my essay a little better. It really helps me to see what I had already said in the other sentence, so I can change the sentence or delete it. Another writer that gives out good information is Lewis Thomas. In “Notes on Punctuation”, Thomas talks about all kinds of punctuation. He gives information on the parenthesis, semicolon, colon, dash, comma, exclamation and quotation marks. Before I read his essay I didn’t know what or how to use a
Despite its unconventional presentation, this essay provides quite a bit of valuable information about punctuation. It expresses the different emotions and impressions associated with the use of various punctuation marks in writing. For example, the beginning of the essay defines question marks and exclamation points as “indicators of tone” rather than stops. This means that they convey an attitude instead of just ending a sentence, which makes sense when one considers how these types of sentences are read aloud. Later in the essay, author Lewis Thomas warns readers of the risk of overusing quotation marks. He states that while quotation marks are important for genuine quotes, their presence is not necessary when writing cliches or in advertising

In today’s society one would not be able to communicate effectively with the world if writing was not involved. People all around the world send emails, texts, and letter to numerous amounts of individuals each second. Writing used to be specifically for academics or the occasional letter to a loved one. As time has passed writing has taken more forms and more meanings. Writing has the effect of making one more intellectual. Writing has become a bridge between communication and the cultures and people of today’s society. It gives way for different options in stating sentences or phrases. (Olson). Each affect should change with age.
