Spoken work is a form of artwork that helps individual of expressing their voice and feeling to a huge audience, before never consider being as an artwork. I use to think of that back when I was a young child. It also ties to a strong storytelling that has a deep meaning. Back home where my parents are from Oromia now know as Ethiopia they have spoken words also known as (wallaoo) to express how the Ethiopian government are prisoning the Oromo people and taking their land. I started writing my own spoken words when I started high school to express my identity, my emotions, which all act of my self-expression. I usually write spoken word when I can’t express something that cannot be easily expressed in logical, precise and analytical forms.
Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave the 2017 All Bonaventure Reads keynote at St. Bonaventure University this past Monday. During the summer, the freshman class all read Hill’s book, “Nobody: Casualties of America’s War on The Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond.” In the book, many thought-provoking events that are a part of America’s history were discussed. The theme of the keynote was why people are put into the category of a “nobody.”
The Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual center was able to collaborate and bring a really amazing author. As everyone welcomed Phil Klay, my first impression was that he was a very funny guy and that his speech was going to be enjoyable. Klay started telling the story of when he was an 11-year-old boy who liked to read books, not any kind of book a child would usually read, but one that involved martyrs. Such books told the stories of people and how they were saved from death. However, he mentioned how “God turned his head” and some woman was killed. Later on, Klay mentions his experience with a Chaplin who was a father of 5 children and tried to keep kids alive during battle and was forced to apply morphine to make their death less painful.
An effective speaker carefully considers the audience when preparing a speech. Ask yourself these questions:
The challenges faced by undocumented student in California as many other places in the United States are well documented. An undocumented student is considered an immigrant that has obtained their status illegally or have had complexities with the immigration standards. With recent United States administration, there seems that the problem of the undocumented students will be more complex than ever. Undocumented student in San Diego California has been marginalized not only by immigration system but also by the state. One of the challenges that these students
Lord Sugar’s idiolect stands out in this transcript because it’s completely different to the candidates. His language features are very informal which is surprising considering they are in a boardroom and you would expect everyone to be professional, especially Lord Sugar, as he is the boss.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was correct when he proclaimed that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Blind, senseless, unmitigated fear is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. Like a parasite, it can insert itself into even the purest of souls and rot it from the inside out. Fear was running rampant during the Red Scare, taking control of peoples’ hearts and turning them against each other. Among the panic and outrage, Lillian Hellman, Joseph McCarthy, Margaret Chase Smith, and Arthur Miller all stand divided as they pull in vastly different directions. While Miller takes a more objective, historically based standpoint, all the others allow their personal fears to infect their worldview. Those in power permit their fear to invade and corrupt democracy: the beacon of freedom turned fear monger and silencer of speech. What was created to liberate the people in turn enslaved them to a government running on nothing more than pure self-interest. When unmonitored fear feeds power, no matter how pure the intentions, anarchy and chaos always take full rein.
In this day and age, change is vital. In order to see change, we must stand up for what we believe in. By speaking out against laws we believe to be unjust, we can make a difference. As long as we act with peace and respect, it is possible to change the law if your reasoning is sensible. Due to this, I wholeheartedly believe that peaceful resistance to laws has an overall positive impact on a free society. I came to this realization during my attendance at a local “Speak Up, Speak Out” rally in which our main goal was to protest against racism, police brutality, and to essentially speak up for those being oppressed by our society. Due to the resurgence of racial inequalities in America, police brutality has been a major issue this year in politics.
Have you ever heard of Dolly the Sheep? Well, if you do know about Dolly the Sheep or you don’t know who she is I’ m here to warn you to not let our world get like the Brave New World. The aspect that I’m going by is the science we have in the world today is eventually going to be like the science they have in their world. For example, the people in the Brave New World make their babies in factories so let’s not get our world like that please. The way we are getting our world like the Brave New World are we have already started cloning living things to make them the same just like they do in the Brave New World. Another thing we can do the same as they do in the Brave New World is change genetics to make people do certain things.
My “Eleven” TBEAR, found in my “Eleven” packet is behind my revision letter for my “Eleven” TBEAR, and my “Talking to the Text” for The Hobbit, found in my Hobbit evidence chart packet with a green smiley-face behind the movie and novel comparison charts, are my two best works of Shared Reading. The “Eleven” packet is located behind my “Chapter 11 Foreshadowing - Flashback” and in front of my social media essay, and my Hobbit packet is located after the “Good Morning” Semantics and Inflection. In the analysis of my “Eleven” TBEAR, we identified what figurative speech was used, and how it impacted the tone of the story. In my “Eleven” TBEAR, the analysis is my best work that demonstrates CCSS Reading 4, “ Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the

When speaking, the tone of voice tells others if the speaker's feeling happy, sad, angry, destructive, romantic, etc. The tone of a writer can be obtained by the word choice they have chosen. While in creative writing the tone is more personal, the writer is trying to get the reader to feel, to see, to hear, or, even, to imagen the taste of what the writer is. Nonetheless, during an academic/business writing, the tone will be more serious. The writer is trying to educate/inform the reader by proving facts. During an academic/business writing one would not write in first person, indicating that the writing is formal. Grammar, sentence structure and spelling are also important to an academic/business paper for the reader
From the 18th century through today, the world witnessed a bunch of brilliant speechmakers changing the world. Some of them affected the world in a negative way and some of them in a positive way. This essay will concentrate on the influence of the best speechmakers in the history of mankind - Sojourner Truth, Mahatma Gandhi, Henry David Thoreau, and Ronald Reagan with contrast of last year’s article from The Atlantic by Graham Allison and Niall Ferguson, Don’t Know Much About History. Even though those speeches come from different centuries and were written by speechmakers of different nationalities, cultures, religions, and genders, they all have the same goals - equal rights, freedom and
Today, I am here to talk to you about something that everyone should be aware of, and something that should put Trump to shame. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Donald Trump had sent an order to our military for the approval to send a bomb to Syria. The main question circling around the media is, “Why did we exactly bomb Syria?”. The main reason on why Trump sent out the order was to scare Assad. Assad, first off, is Bashar al-Assad. He is the 19th and current president of Syria. Assad first violated a “red line”, that our previous president, Barack Obama had set in 2013 during the contract to end war. Assad had then signed a contract saying that he won’t use chemicals to tame down Syrian rebels and instead, use different
If were asked the question, "How do I improve my spoken English?", I would have been at a loss for an answer until recently.
My final assessment of my vocal participation is that I could have done better; however, I feel like I have progressed a lot. As for my writing and reading participation, I feel that I have done consistently well. I believe that I have respected the rules of our class’s participation agreement. For an overall final assessment of my participation, I feel that I have done a good job, but that I could have pushed myself further.
