This included Amos Adamu, who serves as a Fifa executive committee member and Reynald Temarii, president of the Oceania Football Confederation. Amos is said to have told undercover journalists that he wanted US$800,000 to build four artificial pitches in Nigeria and Reynald asked for a payment of US$2.3 million to finance a sports academy (Selling World Cup votes 2010). Also in other investigations, there was thought to be wrong doing between the bid teams of Spain-Portugal 2018 and Qatar 2022. It was believed that both bid teams were conspiring to trade votes for one another, although this could not be confirmed (Ziegler, M. 2010). Four other officials whom are former executive committee members were also suspended for allegations of corruption. “Ismael Bhamjee of Botswana was handed a four-year ban from all football-related activity, while Amadou Diakite of Mali and Ahongalu Fusimalohi of Tonga were suspended for three years and Tunisian official Slim Aloulou for two” (Ziegler, M. 2010). With such damning reports regarding the ethics of some Fifa committee members, it can be understood the general public don’t have a great deal faith in the ethical practices of the Fifa bidding process.
