Throughout sports there has been many common injuries due to either the level of the sport, the practice of the sport, techniques learned, and the surroundings of the sports. My athlete has sustained her injury by these few examples . The athlete has played volleyball for 2 years now. My athlete is a female sophomore at basic and 15 years old. She started playing volleyball her freshman year and has enjoyed every second when she was able to play. Playing volleyball she has played outside hitter and middle in volleyball. While playing volleyball she has obtained stress fracture in both of her legs her sophomore year. During freshman year she was starting to have shin splints in both of her legs due to her never playing sports so her bones were …show more content…
She has stress fractures on both of her tibia bones so the doctor did not prescribe crutches for her. Khylie did not require surgery because her stress fractures were not really that sever. Also the treatment of bed rest allowed her not to finish volleyball. The doctor said the less weight bearing load on the legs is the best for her to recover faster. Khylie's treatment was supposed to be 6 week but the healing treatment was just finally finish in January. For stress fracture the rehabilitation the recovering athlete they are put into to programs with muscle strengthening and generalized conditions. These programs are to help from the injury to occur again and strengthen the bones of the leg. Most exercises are with little weight bearing and if stress fractures are super server they can also be on bed rest or in braces. Most people are out for 6 weeks and come back and go to therapy to rebuild the muscle strength around the bone taking the pressure off of them. For Khylies situation she was out for 6-8 weeks and she didn't not have to go to therapy but still feels pain sometimes. Khylie has to also cope with not being able to play volleyball or do anything with excessive exercise. She also had setbacks because she had to walk to all her classes all over which never let her legs have a break. The improvement from now to then is being able to do some exercise with little

Grade 2 injuries result in symptoms of moderate to severe pain with severe difficulty in walking. The athlete is unlikely to be able to play on and will often limp heavily. Minor bruising and swelling may present immediately but can take several hours (up to 48) to develop. The ankle will feel very stiff but may also feel unstable resulting from a number of torn ligament fibers (this can be tested more accurately by a professional therapist). Recovery time for a moderate ankle sprain (grade 2) takes between 4 and 8 weeks.
Many people believe that concussions are just a head injury that causes headaches, but it’s more than that, so much more than that! In my recent research over Concussions, more importantly, concussions due to sports related occurrences, and the side effects.
Sports are full of injuries. Some are life changing, some are temporary. Everyone loves sports though. Especially full contact sports such as football. Football causes the most concussions than any other
This evidence based practice article explores the persistent concussive symptoms (symptoms lasting more than 90 days post-injury) in students from middle school, high school, and college that obtain many sport-related concussions. The studies by Harmon et al (2013) and Doolan, Day, Maerlender, Goforth & Brolinson (2012), found that just in the United states alone, there are over a million concussions every year and there are at least 50% of the concussions that are not reported. One that acquires a concussion will go through neurocognitive testing, see a physician, and go through screenings and more. Although these methods for management are being done to treat a concussion, there is not any evidence based practice to say that those methods are actually working. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore multiple treatment options, clinical rationale, and outcomes for each treatment. There were 24 cases a clients that were referred the Clinic at the University of Oregon for persistent concussive symptoms related to a sports injury. There were 14 women and 10
I started my love of sports when I was very young. At three years old, I played flag football for a local youth league. I was not shy and withdrawn like the other kids. I was outgoing and energetic. I don’t know if the other kids were embarrassed to play or they just didn’t understand the game, but the ball always came to me. I loved the attention from stealing a flag and scoring a touchdown. After flag football, I played every sport in every season—soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, and baseball. Every sport was the same—the ball always came to me. I was not necessarily an aggressive player, but I was athletic and demanded a lot of play time because I knew I could get
In pro-leagues such as the NBA, NFL, MLB, and many more, there is one common occurrence and it’s injuries. Sports players like Derrick Rose tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) because of improper landing and many more injuries have happened as a result of improper landing and not wearing certain gear. It is important for everyone to know how to prevent an injury or recover from an injury. Following these steps will help anyone prevent or recover from an injury.

The theme of this portfolio is entitled Injuries In Sport. According to medicinenet.com a sport injury refers to the kinds of injuries that occur during sports or exercise. Statistics show that in the U.S about 30 million children and teens participates in some form of organized sports and there are more than 3.5 million injuries each year. In the N.B.A, Tim Hardaway Jr., who plays the shooting guard position, had a groin injury on the 24th of December 2016. I chose this theme because I believe that the research of this topic will give me further understanding and knowledge of the sports physical therapy field. I was moved to choose this theme because my brother’s hamstring injury tore last month in a tough football match. Currently, I am studying

In sports, especially professional sports injury is a great possibly, and a common and very serious injury is plaguing all sports. The concussion is that injury. And over the past few years the NHL and other leagues or trying to crack down on concussions; but those are only partial solutions. In hockey concussions, can come from anything and happen at any time. Thus, proposing a solution or a way to prevent them, is very difficult. As per a study that took place from 1997-2004, results published in 2011 by CTV, states “With averages ranging from 4.6 to 7.7 concussions per 100 NHL players per season, it’s likely that each of the 30 teams in the league will see at least one or two players miss time due to a concussion every year” (Tahirali). Thusly supporting how many players received concussions, even if this study is older. Many people are fighting to get the game changed to combat concussions, and just as many fight to not change the game; although they still do not want concussions.
Injuries play a big role in an athlete's career and his or her overall health, although minor injuries are often nothing to worry about they can lead to something serious especially if the injury is repeatedly being aggravated. scrapes, cuts, bruises, and broken bones are all things to worry about. When a player is injured he or she is losing play time and money and why risk this when there is small but giant steps that can be taken to prevent injuries. But brain injuries are something much more serious even if the player says not to worry because something worse than losing playtime is losing your life. Albert C. hergenroeder has written an article on preventing sports injuries, he says that there are 3 million sports injuries among kids around
