Another Sunday, another Sunday with the New York Mets being blown out. After taking 2 out of the 3 from the Colorado Rockies, the Mets currently sit 9.5 games out of second wild card spot in the National League. It would have been nice for to the Mets end up sweeping the Rockies and end the weekend 7.5 games out. With 7 games remaining on the home stand, I believe that if the Mets want to be involved in a discussion for the wild card spot, they will need to at least win 5 of the games. With 4 games against the Cardinals and 3 against the lonely Oakland A’s, it won’t be easy. As seen the weekend before the all-star break, the Mets went to St. Louis and lost 2 out 3, including only scoring 1 run in the final two days. The end of …show more content…
Now after a bunch of injuries and a bunch of other questions, let’s take a look at guys who would be moved by the Mets. Asdrubal Cabrera: This one is tricky. Reports are that the Mets have asked Cabrera to move to third base earlier in the season, than later one never asked but told him he’s moving to second. Both times, reports are that Cabrera said he would be okay with change as long as the Mets pick up his $8.5 million dollar option for 2018. Personally, if I was Cabrera, i’d stop worrying about my option for next year. Go out, play, so your value at multiple positions for teams to see. I do understand the entire he wants to be financially secure for next season with having a family, but he also needs to realize, he’s going to be 32 next year and basically playing on 1 okay leg. He needs to realize he has a lot of value being a switch hitter/veteran and add to his value as a guy who can play multiple positions. Teams will probably be hesitant to trade for him because he may look for any team to pick up his option, again which I completely understand, but he should keep his mouth shut, especially if a championship contending team wants him for the rest of the year. If he isn’t moved, he most likely be a free agent at season's end anyways. Lucas Duda: Currently 31, Duda will be a free agent at season's end. Finally having found a position to play, after years of trying him at the corner outfield spots. This is a guy, who I joke
Giles, 25 years old, has been with the Phillies for two season and pitched 115.2 innings in 113 games over the two years. He has an ERA of 1.56, a 11.7 SO/9, a 1.03 WHIP and has 16 career saves, 15 of which came last
So Dombrowski went out to find someone he thought could deliver that, and here we are, with current Houston bench coach, Alex Cora. Before I get into Cora and his background, I just want it known that I LOVE this hire. He fills all the holes that Farrell was viewed as having, and I’m already for spring training 2018 to get here. So back to Cora. His playing career started in 1993 when he was drafted by the Twins, but decided instead to attend the University of Miami. He entered the draft again in 1996 where he was selected in the second round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent the next nine years with the Dodgers before signing with the Indians. Halfway through that 2005 season, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He spent four seasons in Boston, and was apart of the 2007 World Series team, before entering free agency prior to the 2009 season, for which he signed a one year deal with the New York Mets. After his year with the Mets he spent two seasons on minor league deals with the Rangers and the Nationals, respectively. Now onto Alex Cora the manager. Cora is still with the Astros as their bench coach through the end of the 2017 season, hopefully ending with a World Series title for the ‘Stros. Cora offers so much in terms of a manager that I’m extremely excited about. For starters, he’s young. Young enough to be the third youngest manager in Major League Baseball as of right now. And that means that it will be
The 2001 offseason was a critical time for the A's front office. Center fielder Johnny Damon, first baseman Jason Giambi, and closer Jason Isringhausen were all free agents and the A's knew there was no way that they could afford to keep them. Beane believes that effective closers were overpriced in the free agent market because he thinks that saves are an overrated statistic. (Lewis pgs.125-126) So when replacing the hole left by Jason Isringhausen's departure Beane traded away a solid prospect in Eric Hinske to pick up an effective but less expensive reliever in Billy Koch from Toronto. This is an example of a tactic used by
The number five slot especially has been a position of: " let's just throw something against the wall and see what sticks." Tanaka, who once was considered the Yankees ace has declined dramatically leaving fans to hold their breath every time he takes the mound. Tanaka's ERA sits at 5.37, over a 2 pt difference from what he finished with in 2016. Another telling stat is the HR numbers. Tanaka has given up more HRs at this point in the season than he had finished with in each of the last three seasons.
Givens to this point is a middle reliever, but would easily project to be the Reds closer almost immediately, at a low price. Currently JJ Hoover headlines the list of potential closer options, followed by Jumbo Diaz, Michael Lorenzen & Tony Cingriani. I do not expect such a return for the Reds as I pretty much expect low-level prospects whose projected ETA will be around 2018 or 2019.
Zanesville would get a 19-yard catch by Andrew Everson and then a 17-yard run by Murphy to give the impression that their offense was ready to turn it on. Then with 2:49 left in the half Everson would get sacked by Marques Sherman for
First off, it seems like this player knows that the ball will be either a strike or ball before the pitch is released. Ben Zobrist is always at the top of the list for taking walks. He also can play almost any position and that requires a lot of dedication and is extremely great shape for being at the age of 35. The next player is Mike Trout who can react to a fly ball like a cheetah chasing its prey. He has incredible power and speed for his size compared to a lot of the other great baseball players which in large part is due to the fact that he is in incredible shape. Finally, Javier Baez is always full of energy and can make some of the most impossible defensive plays. For example, he has the quickest hands in the game of baseball and can take a close tag play and tag the guy out by a mile. His teammate David Ross, who has been around for a very long time, stated “I played with Gold Glovers. I’ve played with Jackie Bradley Jr. (in Boston), who is probably the best center fielder I’ve ever played with. I’m not taking anything away from anybody I played with. Javier Baez, at his age (23), has the best hands, arm, and feel for the game. I’m not taking anything away from his bat. He’s got a great bat. But this dude is a baseball player. He knows how to run the bases, knows where to throw the ball. He’s got instincts ahead of where
On June 29th the Braves made a surprising move in sending down infield prospect Ozzie Albies to Double A. The move comes as a shock but it only certifies the answer of the great question, who will play short and who will play second?
Cespedes who opts out with his contract to the New York Mets has made him the most sought-after player available in the trade market. He became a free agent last year but was able to re-signed by the Mets in a 3-year, $75 million contract with an opt-out clause after the first season, which he exercise this month.
According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Nationals are showing interest in Cincinnati Reds’ closer Rasiel Iglesias, who could be a popular target for teams this month. Due to the shortage of relievers on the market right now, teams will be desperate for help. Iglesias may not have the longest track record, but he’s signed on a team-friendly deal through 2021, so the
Top prospects in baseball are more important than ever in today’s game. For the past few years we have seen a passing of the torch. We have seen players like Chipper Jones, Derek Jeter, and Todd Helton retire and pass the face of today’s game to players such as Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and Carlos Correa. These young players are contributing so
Atlanta Braves’ Chris Johnson has announced that he his seeking a trade after seeing his playing time diminish over the course of the last two years. Chris Johnson spoke to the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Tuesday, saying, “I’d be lying if I said I understood it. It just seems like there was a point from the end of last year where, you know, the ship has kind of sailed, and it was just hard. So hopefully something gets done.” Chris is owed $20 million over the next three years of his contract. Chris also told the AJC, “When Freddie went down, I thought maybe there would be an opening and that I would play against lefties and Kelly would play against righties. Then when I saw that Kelly wasn’t playing against righties, and I still wasn’t
The Rangers will need strong performances night in and night out in order to make the playoffs. Every game is incredibly critical, and the difference between winning the AL West and gaining a Wild Card spot is huge. If the Rangers win the West, then they will be guaranteed a spot in the ALDS where they will get to play in a five game series. If they only get a WC spot, then they will find themselves in a one game playoff, which anything can happen in a one game playoff. Not only that, but Cole Hammels would only get to
Maybe you think New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey hit rock bottom last week when he stood in front of his home crowd at Citi Field and proceeded to get thrashed by the division rival Washington Nationals to the tune of nine runs (six earned) in just 2.2 innings. Then, the Dark Knight of Gotham stepped on the mound this week with a chance at redemption against the Nats, only to get knocked around again, allowing three home runs and five earned runs in 5.0 innings. The Nationals won both games, which were never close. So, maybe Harvey has hit rock bottom, or maybe he’ll get clobbered again in his next scheduled start. Multiple beat reporters tweeted that the Mets were not going to skip a Harvey start, demote, or place Harvey on the designated
In an article of the ESPN, the agreement, which was first reported by the Baltimore Sun and is pending medical review. It will address three of Oriole’s biggest offseason requirements by giving them a corner outfielder, a left-handed bat, and a player who will significantly upgrade the team’s ability to get on base.
