Yesterday, I was playing Xbox with my friend, Anja. On my left side stood my laptop connected to a small speaker. I put on a song on Spotify, and leant back to look at the TV-screen. We listened to some other songs, until my mother came home and I had to turn it off to ask her something. When I was done talking to her, I sat back in the couch without putting on the music again. After about five minutes, a song howled out of the speaker with no one around the laptop to put it on play. My friend and I looked around like Timon from the Lion King and we were freaked out by the situation. I told Anja about another time something like this happened, when I was home alone in my room to put some make-up on. I put a song on my stereo from my Spotify
because at a certain time he had every bit information of him to know. He knew where he worked, he lived, and what did he did in his free time. He knew down to which busses he had to take to certain places. Antonio would not go to the camp he was staying just to make sure the tattooed man did not leave anywhere or change his plans. All he did was stalk Guillermo and that would mean he was evil because he did not think the harm he was causing.
On a daily bases people make excuses for everything. Everything meaning our actions and the things that we say. Common things that we make excuse for deal with sexist, racist, and heterosexist comments. Sexist is classified as saying that one sex is better than the other. An example of this is someone calling a male or female something that they are not. I do not like this because we are all humans and deserve to be respected and not called something that is degrading. We all know that racist is downgrading one race compared to another. An example of this is, saying that all black people are loud and ghetto. We all act the same but some people do certain things different from others. That’s just there way of living. I do not think that just because one person acts one way the whole race does also. Heterosexist is defined as heterosexuality is better than all other expressions. An example of this would be talking about how a guy dresses and calling him gay. I do not agree with this as well because it is good to stand out and be your own person not matter how others see you.
African–Americans are 63% of people that make up prisons for drug charges. Constant bigotry is the pattern and animosity that is inside our minds and are working outside of our conscious knowing. There is a common stereotype that associates minorities, mostly African-American people, with crime. 72% of people follow this stereotype, but it’s common in our life so we are attentive of it. “Our unconsciousness Is not good at distinguishing between associations that we approve of and those we don’t, so merely having the two concepts (Black and crime) associated in our memories causes one to be automatically activated in our thoughts when the other is presented.” (Harris)
The past was best left in the past. Forgotten and ignored, buried in oblivion, and omitted from the present. That’s how one survives. That’s how one gets from day to day without breaking down in a puddle of mush. It didn’t work to face the problem, to confront it head on with the conception that you could overcome. That was just a fantasy, like fairy tale stories it was unrealistic. I learned the way to survive is by stuffing the invasion of feelings that surface when the bloodcurdling past threatens to suffocate you. If PHDs were awarded for perfecting this talent I would be first on the list to receive one. At least I thought so, at least up until this point it was my greatest ally and friend. But looking into the mirror now trying to focus
I love a lot of the points that you brought up, specifically the examples about color coded stereotypes ( blue vs pink), as well as certain toys that are more "appropriate" for girls and boys. I wrote a similar topic, and due agree with you how these gender-role standards are limiting the potentials of BOTH genders. Females are still often associated with being the home-maker while men are working today.
We have the ability to completely block out things and people we are not focused on. They become invisible and we can only see the things that align with what we are focused on.
I felt my heart beating out my chest as I walked in the room for try outs for the debate team. I had always like to argue and to make people see things from my point of view. I couldn’t quite comprehend why I was so nervous though. Maybe it was the crowd I had to speak in front of. I really disliked talking in front of people especially, when I really wanted to prove myself worthy for this elite team. I would forget how to read and I stumble across words that I knew so well. Yolicia you’re up! As I began to walk to the podium to speak, I felt like everyone eyes were little beams on me.
People in our society from all around the world have a wonderful gift of being able to understand each other’s feelings at a personal level. Empathy can be described in many different ways, but is hard to put into words what it all entails. Understanding how a person feels is just the surface of empathy. Empathy varies from person to person, and each person may describe it differently. Without a doubt, empathy is a vital part of society and it is important for people to be educated and truly understand and practice acting in empathetic ways. It takes personal experiences, research studies, and spiritual beliefs for empathy to be properly described.
The day started off in Bangkok where we felt like millionaires despite only having paid $15 each for our two-bedroom penthouse airbnb with an infinity pool. It was hard to peel away from, but with only three days in the commercial hub of Thailand, we got our asses up and started exploring. The thin coat of mist naturally started to form as we walked down the polluted streets towards the temples. Any girl with big thighs understand the chafe-age struggles in the summer, and despite it being monsoon season in Thailand, ya girl was still struggling. (deodorant in between the thighs usually does the trick). Of course I’d wear shorts, despite my skin creating enough friction to start a damn fire, I’d rather have my legs out, than covered with even
It was a hot, Texas summer afternoon. All of the family was sitting together, enjoying each others company. We were watching TV. We joked and laughed with each other. When my grandpa arrives from work, he rushes upstairs to get ready for guitar classes, and says he will be back for dinner. For us, it was a normal Wednesday. Afterward, my grandpa comes down, and sits at the table. He was dressed casually, and is ready to eat. He gets settled and tells me he has something exciting to tell me. We are eating at the table, each of us are enjoying the meal. While we are eating, I notice my grandpa getting in a position as if he were going to say something. He looks at me, along with my mother. He says,"Karmin, would you like to go to guitar classes?"
I decided to go for my usual seat in every classroom, all the way in the back, since, from the perspective of a Class A observer, it was the best location to observe people. And stay out of trouble. And doze off during the middle of a boring lecture without the professor noticing. And dozens of other things I can’t think of at the moment. Just know that the back can be your very best friend during the long school year.
People, trying to make sense, of people They build up a fence and believe all, the things they were told We're all evil, these people We take sides, and defy, others lives Stereotypes, will divide, us in time Well I'm just looking through a different lens, a different way of thinking And I'm just trying to make this all make sense Instead of living in it, and finally Sinking, sinking, drowning these rules that I'm thinking
The Similarity within the picture would be the two people dressed in white. You would group them together because they are human, and clothing they are wearing are the same color tone. The unity within the picture would be the greenery in the background. The trees leave maybe proportion in size, but they seem to be of a circular shape on each of the branches. The two people in the front in the white colors bring your eyes to the waterfall and the posture of the two individuals in a sitting position brings your attention to the lower objects in the picture. The man’s posture dictates he is sitting in a chair, such as a director chair. And you can see that she is sitting on an object that looks like a desk, but it is the wall outside the villa.
The first wave of Chinese immigrates were historically racialized as being the “Yellow Terror” with Chinese women being seen as prostitutes, and men as threats to the white labor force due to the negative propaganda that was distributed about the Chinese (Sasaki, 4/5/16). As a result, Chinese immigrants were classified as “aliens ineligible for citizenship” because the U.S. were worried about what the Chinese would do if they were given rights. They were discriminated against because they were considered as “foreign, other and those who do not belong,” giving others the justification they needed to treat them differently and violently (Sasaki, 4/5/16). In a California Nativist Movement, the white working class openly opposed Chinese laborers
Anyone can be offended by any comment, phrase or verbal attack. This does not necessarily have to be in the context of race or gender; however these are some common fighting grounds. Almost will admit that they have offended a person at one time or another in their life, they might also say it was done on accident. This is because most times during communication with another person one party might become lazy or not fully listen to the other person. Without listening to the other person you might miss so social clues that will help describe the other person and to gain a better understanding of whom they are. When someone isn’t fully engaging they might drift off in the conversation and think they properly explained their point, when in reality
