The values in Table 27-4 were extracted from a larger sample of veterans who had a history of biologic medication use (e.g., infliximab [Remicade], etanercept [Enbrel]). Table 27-4 contains simulated demographic data collected from 10 veterans who had stopped taking biologic medications. Age at study enrollment, duration of biologic use, race/ethnicity, gender (F = female), tobacco use (F = former use, C = current use, N = never used), primary diagnosis (3 = irritable bowel syndrome, 4 = psoriatic arthritis, …show more content…
What is the mean age of the sample data? Mean=summation (x)÷n n=10 X=(42+41+56+78+86+49+82+35+59+37) = 565 Mean=565÷10 =56.5 2. What percentage of patients never used tobacco? Never used=2 Total number=10 =(2÷10)×100 =20% 3. What is the standard deviation for age? Get the summation of difference of each age with the mean Mean=56.5 {(56.5-42)+(56.5-41)+(56.5-56)+(56.5-78)+(56.5-86)+(56.5-49)+(56.5-82)+(56.5-35)+(56.5-59)+(56.5-37)} =158 Mean of the summation=(1÷10)×158 =15.8 =√15.8 =3.975 4. Are there outliers among the values of age? Provide a rationale for your answer. No because the value is positive 5. What is the range of age values? Highest value=86 Lowest value=35 Range =highest value - lowest value =86-35 =51 6. What percentage of patients were taking infliximab? Patient taking inflixmib=6 %=(6÷10)×100 =60% 7. What percentage of patients had rheumatoid arthritis as their primary diagnosis? Patient =5 %=(5÷10)×100 =50% 8. What percentage of patients had irritable bowel syndrome as their primary diagnosis? Patient=3
The purpose of this assignment is to critically evaluate two journal articles from a selection of six. One is a quantitative piece; the other is a qualitative piece. A framework devised by Benton and Cormack (2000) has been used to help the process of critiquing in this assignment. This particular framework had been chosen, as it is a comprehensive framework covering most points needed in the critiquing process. This framework can be applied to both qualitative and quantitative research. However the framework will not be used as a definitive checklist. In this assignment the first article that will be discussed is a qualitative piece of research by Simons J., Franck L. &Roberson E (2001). Titled : Parent involvement in children's pain
A nurse's call to the nursing profession can be greatly impacted by the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN). Most recently, there has been a number of nurses in the media that has been affected by the Ebola virus outbreak. The quarantine of these nurses is an example of precaution measures used to ensure the safety of nurses and other healthcare practicioners. Practices in hand sanitation and the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) are simple standards that improve the quality of care that nurses proved for their patients. QSEN in clinical nursing serves as a framework for evidence- based practice in the profession. It's core competencies centers around patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, safety, team and collaboration,
Frontier Nursing University (FNU) requires a three (3) day Bridge or Frontier Bound for all students. Students from all over the world travel to the FNU campus in Hyden, Ky. During my time at Bridge Bound, I learned important skills, information, and processes essential to the success of a Frontier Nursing University student. Additionally, friendships and bonds were created with fellow classmates and FNU faculty and staff. FNU utilizes a unique learning Model to facilitate distance education, the Community of Inquiry (COI). The COI is composed of three categories, social presence, teaching presence, and cognitive presence. The idea behind COI is that when all three areas are combined, a much deeper sense or learning takes place. My time
Working in the emergency room, I get to see many people from different walks of life come into the department. The diseases and illnesses that are presented are often ones that can be prevented, perhaps through early intervention screenings or better patient education. During the NURS 4400 semester, I would like to be able to become more aware of how as a nurse, I can better prevent injury and illness, as well as provide patient education through out reach programs. I think this could best be achieved by being able to work with a home health nurse, school nurse or community health clinic.
As an advanced nurse practitioner (APN), one must understand that he or she is under constant scrutiny. The performance measurements of primary care providers include several aspects that affect their practice and treatment outcomes. The purpose of this discussion post is to identify and evaluate an aspect of clinical performance measurement. Then, determine the utilization of these measurements for nurse practitioner (NP) productivity. Lastly, I will share my opinion about incentive payment for care, which includes external motivators and a business model.
I am writing to express my sincere interest in applying for a Doctor of Nursing Practice at your university. My studies and career in the field of nursing involve learning and caring for the health and wellbeing of pediatric patients and their families. I‘ve been able to draw from a wealth of academic areas, including advance practice nursing, advance pharmacology, advance health assessment, critical care pediatric nursing, health management and health promotion. Among these areas of study, my interest in bedside nursing practice has attracted me into pursuing in the field of advance nursing practice. As I continue my nursing career, I came to a realization that in order to make changes in the
Sigma Theta Tau is the Honor Society of Nursing, it originated in 1922 by six nurses who longed for nursing to be viewed as a science (Sigma Theta Tau International [STTI], 2017). While they continued to grow, in 1936 they recognized the necessity that to gain further respect as a science it would be essential to get involved in research studies. After all, science and research are just about synonymous. That is when they bestowed the first nursing research grant in the United States, of six hundred dollars, to Alice Crist Malone for her study on “Measures of Achievement among Students at The Ohio State University” (STTI, 2017). The importance of research in the field of nursing likely would have gained momentum at some point, but one should
Nursing 501 was a great way to start my graduate school education. Learning about ethics and health policy really allowed me to reflect on different aspects of healthcare that make up this complex system. To start off I was introduced to the different roles in advanced practice nursing and their influence on healthcare policies. This provided me with an idea of how I will make an influence on the healthcare system as a Clinical Nurse Leader and the similarities and differences between my future role as a CNL and other APNs.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at approximately 10:45am I obtained the following statement from the subject Dahra Walcott.
There are a number of ways to assess pain in paediatric patients. These assessment methods can be broadly defined as self-report, behavioural observation and psychological observation. They should be used in combination with each other, as they have varying levels of reliability due to the influence of other factors that are unrelated to pain.
There are many ways to measure success. However, nursing students measure their success by graduating out of the school of his or her choice. Additionally, on the way to success nursing students’ face many challenges that may hinder them effectively completing the nursing program.
The national league for nurses defines critical thinking in the nursing process as “a discipline specific, reflective reasoning process that guides a nurse in generating, implementing, and evaluating approaches for dealing with client care and professional concerns” (Kozier, 2008). This definition is imperative to help a nursing student learn how to think in terms of nursing care. Nursing students must achieve a comprehensive understanding of critical thinking in order to understand the nursing process. The purpose for this paper is for nursing students to learn how to use the nursing process, how to properly document their findings and assessments, and correctly implement APA formatting in a formal paper.
The research process consisted of a 15 item survey with both pre-filled answer banks and also open ended questions. The sample was compiled of nurses from different units at a single Magnet® hospital located in Southern California. The purpose of this survey was to find out what factors contribute to a nurse pursing their baccalaureate degree and factors that prevent a nurse from doing so when they are employed by a Magnet® hospital. The research design consisted of both quantitative methods and qualitative methods. The qualitative data was collected online through a survey conducted on Survey Monkey. The quantitative data collected was from a survey asking nurses to put in their own words why they chose or didn’t choose to get a baccalaureate
Presently we all are experiencing some elation for finishing our arduous journey with the completion of nursing school. We all have dreams and aspirations from which we plan to grow and succeed. Small short bursts of wisdom are on our minds as we contemplate our new jobs and lifestyle like a child staying up all night anticipating what is going to under the tree after the jolly old man in the red suit arrives and bestows with his good cheer. This is a life changing event for which have been entrusted and the complexity of its empowerment and responsibility. With all of the challenges before us, we will endeavor into a new world full of pain, suffering, joy and contentment. For some of us these are shiny new gifts to be unwrapped like those found under the tree. For others, they are embellishments and struggles attained through a sense of accomplishment. Never the less all of these circumstances will become part of our lives.
Self- assessment has been shown to be effective strategies to support both student learning and self- regulation (Harris and Brown, 2013). Harris and Brown found that students were able to self- monitor and make corrections to their behavior on a regular basis after they assessed their own writing entries. This finding is supported by an earlier research on how nursing students use diary writing to develop a reflective practice (Richardson and Maltby, 1995). The critical result of this study was that writing of a reflective diary does promote student reflection and ongoing self-monitoring.
