In the United States, there are over 10,000 zoos. In Illinois, the St. Louis Zoo has been named the fourth best zoo in the United States! In my mind, it’s the first best zoo in the United States which might be a biased answer since I have never been to any other zoo. In the summer, there are constantly hundreds of people at the zoo which leads me to believe many other people enjoy the St. Louis Zoo just as much as I enjoy it. In my opinion, the best part about going to the zoo is seeing all the different kinds of animals there. The animals vary from anything between butterflies to penguins. In front of where the animals are put, there is always a little podium showing information on that specific animal. That way, while your mind is blown
The exhibits are also very fascinating, and after going to the zoo you can catch a glimpse of a certain animal's way of life. Without zoos we wouldn't have the unbelievable experience of seeing Earth's most beautiful life forms. Zoos keep endangered species safe, and out of harms way. We need to start caring about the life forms on this planet. Showing each animal compassion, and love. My knowledge on zoos has been stretched after my reading analysis today. Based off of the articles, "The Stripes Will Survive", "The Zoos Go Wild", and "Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment", we can truly get in-depth analysis about the role zoo's
Zoos have always been criticized because some claim that animals are being abused and mistreated due to the lack and care of certain zoos. However, zoos actually help many animals with research and are critically important for conservation purposes. People need to understand that zoos have programs that breed endangered animals as well as rescue programs for exotic animals that people are no longer able to support. Also, they have many hands on activities that allow people to get more connected to animals. In addition, zoos do not only focus on animals. They focus on environmental problems/concerns as well. Zoos help us stay educated about environmental impacts and animal care.
Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
Some people go to zoos to see the wild animals, but that’s not all that they are for. People in groups such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) may think that zoos cannot provide the needs to wild animals as the wild can. Zoos help animals. They have improved, helping to repopulate species and save animals in the wild.
The El Paso Zoo is a well-known for making everyone’s arrival one to remember. Each time I would go to the zoo, I always leave with a smile on my face because of the great service they bring towards El Paso. The reason why I decided to write about the zoo is because I was once a worker there. It is marvelous seeing all of those magnificent animals. They must be at least twenty different types of species we have in El Paso. Which is totally awesome.
The animal king (Marahambae) died of a rare disease that made him slowly deteriorate mentally and physically.Doctors tried to help but there is no cure to it. The animals in the Nevada state zoo are extremely upset about the tragic death. Many of the animals are furious and are running mad around their cages. The animals begin to escape their enclosures and helping others break free as well! You the zookeeper are the only one working because all your co-workers quit because they felt they were in danger. Your boss leaves it up to you to get all the animals back in their habitat so the zoo can reopen. You terrified or ot have to get the job done before the zoo is closed
Being a second grader, the Atlanta Zoo was an alternate universe. Traveling with my Girl Scout troup caused lots of chattering and giggling. We found ourselves starting out with the flamingo exhibit. Being the morning, the flamingos were very active and showed off their brightly colored pink feathers to me. Moving on we visited all other kinds of birds like the Ground Hornbill, Lappet faced Vulture, Cassowary, Kookaburra, and many more. I could not believe how many birds there were and all with different markings. After gazing above tree we decided to look down inside the rocks at a Giant Tortoise. The shell helped to camouflage the big tortoise well, but not well enough for we soon caught sight of him. After seeing some of the coolest animals
There is something going on at the zoo that large stakeholder corporations, like PNM (Power New Mexico), do not want us, the zoo goers, to know about: propaganda that endorses conservationism. Conservation’s main “focus is nevertheless on human benefit, not other speicies or entities”; which seems peculiar that a company that actively harms the environment for the benefit of humans would have an interest in the zoo. Why? PNM provides electricity to customers in urbanized and semi-urbanized areas in New Mexico. The power company gets energy from coal-fired plants that generates “air pollution from sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and heavy metals, leading to smog, acid rain, and toxins in the environment” that have detrimental
The zoo is a zoo for a reason. Going to the zoo is a fun time created to spend quality time with your family, friends, co-workers, and etc.
There once was an employee named Craig, who worked at the Columbus Zoo and worked in the monkey section. He feed them twice a day and made sure that they were healthy. One day one of the monkeys, BoBo, seemed ill. Craig gave BoBo a shot to make sure he was ok. The shot said that he was ok. Later on Craig assumed that they were all ok at the zoo.
You can tell by looking at a map of the state that Atlanta is the heart of Georgia, one of the most visited cities in the southern United States. Indeed, this metropolitan jewel beats to a rhythm blended with cultural diversity and historical enchantment. The name alone evokes a bygone era of gentility and grace, yet contemporary style and a growing appreciation for social interaction have made Atlanta an ideal vacation destination. Families, in particular, will enjoy the variety of attractions and lodging and dining options available to them.
Visiting the San Diego Zoo I was able to observe and gain a deeper understanding of the Black Mangabey,Western Lowland Gorillas, and Sumatran Orangutan. Through my visit I was able to learn more about the different primates, their traits, habitats, eating habits, and interactions. Thus, allowing myself to gain a visual and up close understanding of the primates we learned about in class through the lectures.
The first thing that you will need to do when thinking about starting a zoo is make sure you know how to correctly care for the animals. This is important said Shanna Thompson of Sedgwick County Zoo because we want to treat the animals in a humane way. The humane way that we treat our animals is executed in everything that we do. People come to the Zoo because they know that the animals are being cared for in a great way. Treating animals in a humane way is not just applied to the Sedgwick county zoo. It is now a law. Each animals has certain weather conditions that they are only allowed to go out in and certain requirements for inside their pen (Thompson, Shanna). For an example, Elephants must always have shade in their pen so that they
One Friday when I was in the 7th grade, my school planned an “end of the school year” field trip to the Sunset zoo. I was excited to go because I really enjoyed going to the zoo and seeing all the different animals. All the students in my grade were split up into groups and then given a section of the zoo to start, it was so not everyone was at one section of the zoo. The section my group got was the walk through Australian habitat. We walked through these big wooden doors to get access to the habitat. As I walked through the doors the first thing I saw was Oscar the emu. He was at the back of his habitat eating some grass. I thought he was so pretty so I asked my friend Kaitlin if she could take a picture of us together. I go and stand next
The single activity that represents my most meaningful commitment would be my volunteer work with the St. Louis Zoo. My service with the zoo is a representation of my love for conservation, nature, and education. Volunteering with the St. Louis Zoo has also allowed me to explore my interests. Through the St. Louis Zoo I’ve been able to work with endangered beetles and snails, as well as participate in a national campaign aimed at reducing plastic bag use.
