walls, there are paintings of the Life of the Virgin. On the bottom of the walls there are images of the seven ecumenical councils. The song “The Last Judgement” is painted on the west wall. Numerous figures of martyrs are painted on the pillars, and there are also many icons. There used to be an icon of “Our Lady of Vladimir,” but later on the icon was moved to St. Basil’s Cathedral so it wouldn’t be stolen because it was so expensive. There are icons of the Virgin Hodegetria, Saint George, Trinity. There is a large iconostasis, which is a screen bearing icon that separates the sanctuary from the nave, that occupies the whole wide wall of the cathedral.
Sima Gleichgewicht-Wasser, she was born and raised in Warsaw. She was raised in a traditional Jewish home. On the 15 November, 1940, the germans opened a ghetto called Legionowo, 16 miles northeast of Warsaw. She worked as a smuggler to get food to her family. One time a german guard stopped her and try to make her admit she was Jewish but she never did so he got a German Shepard to bite her and tear pieces of her skin off to make her admit but she never did. One day Sima snuck out and on her way back acquaintance stopped her and told her don't go back where her family was that the ghetto was liquidated. The person I am doing for my essay is Wesley Isenhour (my dad). He has a wife named Liane and two kids named Macy and Maddy. He works for the United States postal service and does reviews on post offices all around North Carolina. The reason I chose my dad is because he always makes people smile and makes everyone's day better. He is one of the best people in my life and is always there for me. I hope you enjoy my essay on Wesley Isenhour.
Every city has that one basketball game that everyone goes to. The game that brings the crowd to their feet. That one game that brings thousands of people to the audience, and leave them with something to talk about for the remainder of their lives. Saginaw High vs Arthur Hill boys basketball game is filled with people from all over the state, filled with future NBA players and lots of drama. Saginaw High is located in the poorest and the most dangerous parts of Saginaw,Mi. Just imagine a neighborhood with only three houses on each block and sounds like Fourth of July firecrackers going off every night knowing someone just died. So every year, Saginaw
Melbourne is located in the south-eastern part of mainland Australia, within the state of Victoria. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. What in the hell is the Craig Sager Curse? Allow me to expand. During this years All-Star break TNT broadcaster Ernie Johnson and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller decided to pay their respects to the late Craig Sager. They did this by rallying up a few professional ballers as well as a few celebrities to take place in a new contest; The Sager Shootout. The rules were rather simple, make a 3, $10,000 gets donated to the Sager Strong foundation. One minute into the contest they were still $370,000 short of their goal. So without much resistance, Ernie Johnson called up Stephen Curry and told him one thing. Make a half court shot and we hit our goal. Easy for the 2X MVP you’d think, right? Well, that’s actually wrong.
I would tell someone who has never met Sandy Sewell that her witty personality and exuberance for life, as she tells her life story, is what defines her as an individual and not her physical disabilities. At first glance you will notice that she is quadriplegic and confined to a wheelchair but I would assure the person that her appearance is deceiving because she is truly an inspirational person. For instance, you might initially be surprised by her gregarious charm and enthusiasm for life as a disabled woman. Her passion for living the best possible life is evident when she discusses her role as an advocate for the disabled in creating her organization the Rockland Social Network. The organization gives disabled individuals in Rockland
The immigrant family reached Cincinnati from New York City after a journey of three days. Karolina’s cousin and his family quickly disembarked from the train when they arrived and began walking with their luggage to their home in the northern part of the city called “Over the Rhine” because a canal separated it from the main part of Cincinnati. Most of the German immigrants were settling in this area and it had a European flavor including many taverns and beer gardens and where other Baden immigrants had settled. Karolina’s cousin Heinrich Sorg immigrated to America several years before. He originally settled in Kentucky, but as the city of Cincinnati grew he moved there.
Deep inside the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy rests a 14.5 x 3.7 inch long linen cloth. This shroud is stored in a custom built, temperature and humidity controlled, lighttight case made of bulletproof, laminated glass, which weighs about 2,200 pounds. On the shroud bears the faint image of a man who has been crucified. Many believe it to be the actual burial shroud Jesus of Nazareth was wrapped in when he was buried after crucifixion. This is the Turin Shroud.
shrine. Many churches claimed to possess relics of the burial site of Jesus Christ and of
Worse, seiðr has been performed for “evil purposes” “with harmful intent” (NRVA, p. 126). A good example is Thorgirmr used seiðr to curse Gísli in Gísla saga Súrssonar with nightmares and warnings of ferocious events so much that Gísli could not have peaceful mind anywhere. But among all of the Sagas of the Icelanders, the most horrible practice of seiðr was in the Laxdæla saga with Kotkell’s entire family creating big storm to drown Thordr Ingunnarson’s boat on the way home to reply to the charge summon of magical theft and malicious scheme in the neighborhood from Thordr. In these examples, we can see the accounts of seiðr usd by many male characters even though seiðr is often considered as a feminine practice. But it is true that in most
Pictured below is the floor plan for the Santa Sabina. The interior design includes many of the features mentioned above, as can be seen on the floor plan. Coming from the porch through the narthex, you enter the nave. The Church of Santa Sabina has a very open nave with a dominant central axis that provides a clear view from the narthex to the apse the sight of the alter. The apse takes on a semicircular shape and is highlighted by three windows with symbols representing the Eucharist in between. Above these, a mosaic created by Taddeo Zuccari depicts Christ seated on a hill surrounded by people while lambs drink from a river. On either side of the nave is an aisle separated from the center space by twelve Corinthian style pillars constructed from proconnesian marble. Archways are created between the pillars, and are decorated with inlaid stone that show a chalice and bread plate, reflecting the Eucharist. Above the archways, clerestory windows allow light to fill the interior. The interior is completed with a flat ceiling constructed from wooden
A seigneur's duties differ from a landlord because a seigneur is selected by the French king. Landlords work for their own living. Since all the land in New France was owned by the king, the seigneurs had to swear obedience to him. Landlords are self-hired, therefore have a little more freedom in their job, although they have to obey the law. The French king commanded his seigneurs to protect the land of the seigneury. Landlords, on the other hand, have to do maintenance, cleaning, and things any rental process requires. A seigneur needs to build a manor house in the seigneury. A landlord usually lives reasonably close to the rental property, but don’t need to build a manor house. Seigneurs were ordered to annually report the population, land
These findings as well as findings in layer 1 and layer 5, figure 3.3, in the western mound, seem to add some support of the Brothers of the Abby Church of St. Vincent of finding the tomb of their patron saint. While not necessarily the bones of a saint, there is indication of Roman occupation/ activity of the site. Labeled a and e in layer 7 of Figure 3.2 of the eastern mound, a is a fragment of bronze, highly polished on one side, inscribed “Avgvsta” and e a fragment of glass that is undated and unsourced. In the western mound, figure 3.3 in layer 1 a Roman coin of Constantine the Great dating between 288-337. Also in the western mound in figure 3.3 labeled g, 18 sherds of early Medieval pottery from about 1200 AD. The western mound is viewed and excavated at the road that was cut into the barrow in 1136. Evidence of this being of the work in the building of the church is seen in the pottery from this time period. There seems to be a possibility of the brothers stumbling on a Roman burial in their activities. It is to note that there is claims that the burial uncovered was contained in a sepulcher of marble carved with scenes from the life of Christ and inscribed VINCENZO VIVATIS IN CHRISTO. According to Brother Wilfrid in a letter this burial and stones from it were moved to under the alter in the nave of the church. In an interesting study of the bones and relics with the bones could shed light in if the site did at one point contain a Roman era burial. There is a shadow of doubt concerning the burial as described due to the era’s relic trade and need to draw pilgrims to the church to help with their income. Research in the Roman, burial practices after Constantine the Great’s conversion to Christianity should also be research. In the final layers, layer 1 in figures 3.2 and figure 3.3 of both sides of the barrow are now covered with modern topsoil showing no more
