During World War I, Stalin had created a five year plan for the Soviet Union. Stalin’s five year proposal was to develop the economics of the Soviet Union. He wanted the Soviet Union to become more like the western hemisphere, so he created the five year plan. If the residents of the Soviet Union constantly followed the five year plan, they would eventually reach his intended modernized society. In the novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, there is a three principle plan called Ingsoc. The three principal plan was the slogan, “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength” (Orwell 1.1.4). The slogan is propaganda to enforce the idea of expanding the Oceania.
