Hunger is quite common in America. One in six Americans suffers from hunger. A lack of food is not what one would expect in America where food is readily accessible almost anywhere one might be. Sadly, many low-income families simply do not have the money to buy nutritious foods. They also lack the time to cook because they usually have multiple jobs taking up more than half of their day. These people are being forced into eating pre-packaged and boxed foods. Those types of foods lack nutrients and are typically high in fat and sugar. This directly impacts their body. This is a case of you are what you eat. Low-income families feel as if they do not have a choice over what to eat. In reality, they just have to be smarter with their money and learn what foods are affordable and nutritious.
Have you eaten today? Can you eat today? For many in America and across the world the answer to those questions is no. Having a meal and to afford one is difficult. In 1984, Billy and Debbie Shore founded the Share Our Strength organization as a response to the famine in Ethiopia. As time continued, Billy raised more than $600 million for the organization to fight against hunger and poverty. It soon branched off into smaller chains such as No Kids Hungry and Cooking Matters. Through the campaigns of No Kid Hungry and Cooking Matters, Share Our Strengths is on a mission to end childhood hunger and to teach low-income families how to shop and cook healthier.
First, I would like to give my opinion of whether this book was worthwhile at the beginning of this book review. Because I believe this is one of the most moving books written today about the problem of hunger in America. I also believe that this book should be required reading for every "elected official" who has the power to end the needless tragedy of hunger in America. This is a very well-written, well-researched book based on real people with real stories not just about numbers, trends, stats, or theories.
In conclusion, hunger in America is at an all time high due to poverty and the economy. The increasingly high number of starving children has gone up over the past years and needs to be stopped. There are government programs set up to help stop hunger in American, such as, SNAP Food Stamps and WIC. We can get involved by volunteering with Feeding America or other non-for-profit organizations set for feeding the hungry. Food donations and monetary donations have always been a great way to help out for those who don’t have the time to donate.

This textual evidence was then followed by a statement by many interviewed volunteers. These volunteers felt that their work at the soup kitchen was the only thing they participated in that made them feel as though they were doing a good deed. Seeing as how Americans have no concern for the amount of food they waste, and seeing as how Americans rely on the constant need of food as some sort of confidence boost goes to show the reader that there is no actual cure for hunger – because no one truly cares enough to find one.

They’ve helped out 46 million Americans. ( feedingamerica.org )
Throughout my research on MIFA I have learned just how much of an impact the organization has had in combating the hunger in Memphis. MIFA is a pillar of our community both from the work it does to serve senior and families in crisis, and by brining our community together in the vision of a better Memphis. Those who give to and through MIFA care little about being recognized for donations, but receive satisfaction from knowing their service helps those who desperately need it. Their work has inspired me to sacrifice some of my weekends to help volunteer in the near future so I can do my
Starbucks desire as the leader in the specialty coffee industry is to be acknowledged for its responsibility to coffee farmers and their families to improve their well-being. The corporation’s primary stakeholders are broad organizations such as, coffee trade associations, suppliers, and groups with interest in sustainable coffee production. Including non-profit groups focused on human rights, social justice, and environmental issues. Other stakeholders include governmental agencies such as, U. S. AID (Starbucks Corporation, 2010).
In Toxic Charity, Lupton talked about food pantries and how they are not necessarily the best way to provide aid. I’m sure most people donate to food pantries, thinking that they are making an impact on people. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that most donated food is thrown out due to expiration or is not helpful to

First, Starbucks believes that the quality of its coffee products always needs to be perfect. Starbucks took quality control to a new level. When the freshness of coffee bean shipments is in question, Starbucks donates those beans to charity by the thousands of pounds. In addition to this measure of excellence, Starbucks helped incorporate a new coffeehouse
Starbucks acted ethically after their financial scare by upgrading their coffee equipment for their customers. Also, Starbucks added a new menu item to offer customers a more dynamic selection in their stores. Starbucks began to think more along the lines of a small mom and pop coffee shop to fit in with the local stores. To continue, Starbucks plays a significant ethical role within the community. Starbucks donates too many charitable causes within the community. Also, Starbucks allows their customers to provide feedback about their local coffee shop. Due to this ethical behavior, Starbucks gains new customers by offering them a place to relax and give their input on their
In 2014, a foundation called Feeding America did a survey on the people they serve and found that in order to stretch their food budgets 79% of them purchase inexpensive and unhealthy food in order to stay fed. This can seriously impact their health, because no matter the age, healthy bodies and minds require nutritious meals. In some cases, food insecurity can even lead to Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. These are just a few examples of why food insecurity is so harmful. Fortunately, there are many organizations, clubs, and foundations that are committed to ending hunger in America, and eventually the world. The first step to solving this problem is spreading information, and realizing just how dangerous food insecurity is, and who it affects. After learning these things, you may want to help and there are many ways to do that. I’m sure in the past, you've donated food to the annual canned food drive our school puts on, and that’s just one way you can contribute to solving this problem. There are many organizations that ask for donations and will put your money to great use, for example every dollar you donate to Feeding America will provide 11 meals for a child in need.If you don’t have food or money to donate, you can donate
