When we talk about the future most people think of popular movies and films and they ways they depict what it will be like. For some Star Trek represents a utopian view than we can achieve while other may see something like Mad Max as possible outcome. Yet a number of people will see the possibility somewhere in the middle the two extremes and hope we can simply survive getting there. I contend that we will indeed see a future and one in which is more in the middle of the utopian view of Start Trek and not as bad as the dystopian view of Mad Max. This future will be different in the way that human interact with themselves and technology as well as how they see the universe around them. This paper will look at technologies that are currently in the development and testing phases and tie them to how the future will be once they are …show more content…
I will also present the promise of these developments as well as the potential threat that these bring into reality as well. The format will be first introduce the technology through a brief description of uses it is purported to handle. Then I will follow the ideas of how said device will benefit humankind followed by the potential threats that this technology will introduce to humankind in general and to the user of said device specifically. Breaking the potential technologies into separate categories based on interface and body part effected. The first of these technologies will be the advancements that are the foundations for brain reprogramming. While this sounds more like a mad scientist’s story, in fact, possible to reprogram a person’s brain on a limited scale currently. We see scientists from the University of Western Australia working on this to help people with certain neurological and psychiatric disorders develop a brain chemistry that helps relieve problems within its circuitry. While this study is ongoing it has shown very promising
The future is an interesting subject. Any little choice or action could change the future for the better or worse. In the stories “Harrison Bergeron”, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and “By the Waters of Babylon”, by Stephen Vincent Benet, we read about two distinctly different futures affected by technology. Both have terrible outcomes but the difference is great and let me explain why.
Have you ever thought about what kind of technology we will have in the future? Or have you thought about how technology will affect us in the future? In the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and the story “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benet both the futures with technology look pretty awful. In “Harrison Bergeron” anyone with special gifts or talents are forced to wear a handicap to make them like everyone else in society. In “By the Waters of Babylon” tells a story about how our technology is so advanced that if we went to war we would destroy everything we have and we would have to basically restart. In both books our technology in the future is way too strong and
Future society is an extremely unpredictable subject, because people all have different views on life. Charles G. Waugh author of the short story, “Long Way Home” tells a story about a caring father losing his son, due to the world's advanced technology. On the other hand in the short story, “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradley, individuals are completely addicted to technology, allowing technology to over rule the world and take over people's minds. Although both stories show a possible outcome of the future, the more realistic future will most likely be “The Pedestrian”.
Technology are being increased all over the world, the threats posed against it also tend to increase.
Throughout this semester our literary material dealt with themes of technology, modernization, the imponderable bloom, human nature, and truth to name a few of the most overarching. Each text has woven an impression of the possible near future for humanity if the patterns we are creating continue at an exponential rate. Patterns such as consumerism, neglecting unpleasurable emotions, using drugs, and controlling the environment for our short term benefits will write an unsavory and inevitable future. Science Fiction often reflects on society by exaggerating their negative characteristics and advancements to seem far-out, but often it is ironic how close many aspects of the fiction are a direct reflection of the present condition. Even now, the possibilities of utopias and dystopias forming are not so out of reach. The ability of our culture to control an entire population with a self-satisfied culture of vices outfitted with technology is less and less science fiction as the years pass.
Today’s society is more affected by technology than it ever has been and it is changing every second of every day. Advancements in technology have been changing our culture and society for hundreds of years; from hunters and gatherers to information overload to a future of the most advanced technologies we could imagine. These fast advancements in technology quickly change our society. This statement was greatly expanded upon by three people: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler
The author uses a professional and persuading tone with his readers of future parents, people who want avoid diseases, scientists or people interested on learning about this new technology in order to inform and convince that by the use of this, it will be a smart choice since it has a lot of benefits and nothing to
One of the overall concerns regarding easily accessible technology is our dependency on it. When we take a closer look, we see an interesting dynamic: we feel a sense of isolation and danger if we are without our technology, so much so that we risk even further greater danger (literally and figuratively)
Whether you are a fan of science fiction movies or not, it is clear that their hypothetical nature provides an interesting perspective on how people would cope with concerns raised by technological advancement and the ethical choice they have to make. The movie Passengers (2016) offers a great example of these dilemmas and really emphasizes the human element of dealing with technology.
Technology has changed remarkably over the last one hundred years. First, the way that we use books has changed. Another way is the way we play games. The way we communicate with each other has changed drastically over the last century as well. At this rate, with technology growing every day, we can see the “new” technology that we have right now is already being replaced with something else that is “new.”
In this field trip, I am trying to find out the latest development of Information Technology and how these technologies affect our daily lives. Get to know about these technologies, how is it going to improve our lives in the further. This exhibition is about the next generation nationwide broadband network (Next Gen NBN). We get to learnt how Next Gen NBN improved Information Technology, as it offers broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second. With such high speed, more informations can be transferred in one second. This exhibition tell us about how Next Gen NBN improve our lives, work, Interaction and learning. In this essay I am going to discuss three technologies which I think
Technologies are getting more and more advanced day by day, as if we would never know what technologies will become by the next day morning, it grow fast and it keeps on changing. We could not deny that today’s technology changes our world and our way of living, most of the new devices that are invented are replacing the old ones, just as those phones with a physical keypad design are replaced with our new touch screen smart phone today, these changes occur rapidly. In this technology leading world, have you ever wondered, what are the next incredible devices will be invent? In this research report, I am going to introduce you, a brand new technology that were recently invented by Google, a device which is yet
Everyday we hear about the astounding technological advances discovered year after year. Thirty years ago, who would have thought that we would soon be able to communicate with a person half way around the world through a computer? The possibilities of technology are endless and beyond belief, but are these possibilities always beneficial in society, or are they causing more harm then help? Authors Pete Hamill, Grant Fjermedal and Roger Rosenblat take a look at certain forms of technology and the beneficial and detrimental aspects that have and will come from its advances.
Today’s science fiction is often tomorrow’s reality. As the pace of change has quickened, so it appears that we are actually living within a science fiction movie. Programs on TV continue to amaze or frighten us with yet more technological break through and with clever new products and gadgets. Over the last decade and certainly through the rest of this century, the major agent for these changes has been and will continue to be electronic computer and its derivatives. The Digital Age exploded into existence not with a whimper but a bang. The globe still shakes from its entry. The journey was long, but the impact is immediate. Now, for instance, the breath of an unborn baby can be captured and rendered visible, the
Mankind has limitless potential. However, we often are first forced to break down old barriers. In the past humans have broken free of gravity and traveled through the skies. Then came the invention of the computer. The idea of millions of calculations performed each minute may have seemed absurd a century ago, but society’s dependence on it today can never be overestimated. The future, I believe, will be an era of power and energy.
