While growing up I’ve always liked animals. Although, I’ve never thought to explore animal related careers until now. Now I have figured out a career that I might want to go into. The career I want to go into is an Animal Services Worker to help assist abused and neglected or animals and return the wild animals to their natural habitat.
In this field the required education is a high school diploma. Depending on the environment chosen, an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in an animal related course is also recommended, but not required. Additional training for this career is usually taught on the job once hired. Some places may add that they require certain certifications to work in their environments, but most do not require it. Positions are usually gradually processed, and take time to increase to higher levels.

When people think of animals the first thought that usually comes to mind is “cat” or “dog”. For Animal Services Workers it is all animals. Wild or domestic. Big or Small. The job tasks of an Animal Services Worker varies between the environment they work at. For example, if someone worked with aquatic animals, the worker may have to clean aquariums, and if someone worked on a farm, they may have to clean the pens everyday. For me, I would be distributing nutrition to animals, ensuring a clean living environment for animals, overseeing and correcting the behavior in the animals, keeping accurate records of all data on animals, and examining animals for any abnormal illnesses or injuries that may have occurred overnight or throughout the
Throughout the past few years, I have contemplated back and forth constantly of what it is I might want to be when I graduate from high school and college. At first I thought maybe a lawyer, but I soon realized that I am not the type of person to argue against others. Maybe I could be a doctor, but too many people are in that profession or want to be in that profession as it is. After a while of long, hard thinking, I decided that I would apply my love of animals to my future career path, therefor I decided that I wanted to be a Veterinarian. A Veterinarian is a person, much like a doctor, who cares for ill or injured animals. Examples of some of the duties Veterinarians do are dress wounds, perform surgery, diagnose diseases, and even
After high school you must complete 2 to 4 years of pre-veterinary or science studies at college before applying to veterinary school. However, because the competition for veterinary school admission is so competitive, it’s a good idea to complete a full Bachelor of Science degree before applying. Veterinary schools require you to have completed courses in specific subjects before they will consider your application. Since these subjects vary depending on the school, you should contact the school you plan on attending to find out which subjects you should be taking. Once you are accepted by a vet school, it takes another 4 years of study to graduate with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After that you’ll want a 1 to 2 year internship. Also they need to be licensed to perform on the animals. This requires a DMV and a passing national board exam. It’s never to early to start preparing for your career in veterinary medicine. Employment of vets is projected to grow 9% from 2014 to 2024, faster than average occupations. Veterinarians will always be needed to cure and diagnose animals. Also veterinary medicine has advanced, so more services are offered. There also seeing growth in both the large and small animal
There are many different types of animals that work for us. There are three types of service animals that help the disabled. Guide animals assist the blind, hearing animals signal the deaf, and there are many other animals that help persons with other disabilities. Another way that animals work for us is by providing emotional support to those with mental health issues. These animals are usually prescribed by a doctor and they are called emotional support animals. One last way that we can see an animal working is in the military. There are many military working dogs that serve to protect us just as a
As an intern I am able to do restraint if the animal is friendly. I also assist with blood test, fecal, and heartworm test. I clean rooms as well. I have had the opportunity to observe some surgeries as well. Which was very interesting and gross, but overall very
Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
My ultimate goal is to work with exotic zoo animals, specifically working at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Once I feel that it is the appropriate time, I would love to have the chance to open up my own mixed practice, focusing on lower prices and free clinics for people who have a hard time paying for the medical care of their animals; as well as work with local farmers and members of 4-H and FFA. I would also love to find time in my busy schedule to donate some of my time to local shelters when working at the Animal Kingdom. As well as once I open my own clinic, to work with the shelters so they have the opportunity to get the medical treatment for their animals at a low charge or no charge at all. As if this wasn’t enough to keep me busy I would like to own a small farm with a garden and a few different types of livestock to help educate the public on 4-H, FFA, livestock, and the agriculture community. One of the ways I plan on achieving the goal of educating the public is by having “A Day at The Farm” where the public can come and meet members of 4-H and FFA and learn firsthand about animals and the opportunities these organizations give to their members. I would also love to have the opportunity to travel to Africa and work with some of the animals on the preservations, and with some of the locals and help their livestock. This career
I have found many government jobs very interesting. The one government job that I found interesting is animal control officer. I find this interesting because I am always wondering how animal control gets a animal under control and take them.
I have investigated making Veterinary Technology as my career in many ways. I began to have a large interest in animals from a young age. I started 4-H when I was nine years old and raised dairy goats as my project. I had always researched the Veterinary Field for every project I had done through school. I had the amazing opportunity to go to Grant Career Center for my last two years of high school in a Veterinary Science program. I was able to have a lot of great experiences with my instructor. We had rescue animals come to the school so that we could run heartworm tests on them and give them some of their vaccinations. I was able to run basic tests, learn how to draw blood, and multiple different skills that will help me in this field of work.
After high school, I must complete two-four years of pre veterinary or science studies. Then, I am able to apply for veterinary school. After I apply and get in, it takes four years to get a DVM degree. Depending on what job I want in the vet world, I could take a 1-2 year internship program if I wanted to specialize in one specific area or I could complete a 3-4 year residency program to become a certified specialist. There are plenty of skills that I will need to have to become a vet.
One of my main educational and also career goals in the world of veterinary medicine and animal health care would have to be completing all necessary courses to obtain my Veterinary Assisting certificate and going to work at a vet clinic. Eventually, I may chose to go back to school to complete the rest of the courses needed to become a Veterinary Technician. I have always grown up around animals so I assume that is where my love and passion for helping animals came from. As a young child and still to this day, I have always found comfort, peace, and an increased amount of patience in being around animals. I have also always been intrigued by the idea of therapy/service animals. I see those animals being able to truly make an impact on their
I am currently doing NC Animal Care and i'm loving it. I am particularity interested in Anatomy and Physiology and I love the practical classes. I would adore the opportunity to further myself and dig deeper into how to interact and care for animals. I did 2 weeks of work experience in 2014 at pets at home and i am currently looking into volunteering abroad next summer. I am passionate about my education and about being the best i can be. I want to be qualified so i can work in animal conservation and try to make a really change in the way the public see

I’ve always known my path in life, ever since I was a little girl. My mind constantly revolved around one idea; working with animals. Nobody knew better than I that this was my fate, my purpose. I dreamt of being able to work alongside a variety of creatures, no matter the species; I’m not afraid of much. My biggest opportunity came to me in the late spring of 2017. It was like I was given a gift by the gods themselves; I was chosen to volunteer at the zoo.
