“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson As a young person of America, I struggle to feel accomplished. I cannot directly impact the country in ways such as voting. I strive to be the best I can be, on a personal level and on a level recognized by those around me. This school year, 10th Grade, I joined the Mini-Thon Club at school. The efforts of Mini-Thon make me feel like I can impact the lives of others and that I can improve myself as a person, becoming more responsible and selfless. Each month, we organize an event in the community or at school to raise money for the research and treatment of childhood cancer. The club, so far, has been a very enjoyable experience, and next year, I would like to try participating in Student Council. I’m sure I would be more than capable of it and it seems like it would also be a fun experience that I could grow from. As far as my future, I am sure I will change my mind over and over again, even while I am attending college. I want to impact others, but I am not sure how I wish to accomplish this goal. It could range from teaching to being the President. I originally wanted to study Criminology and work in a field in which I would be …show more content…
I wish to know the world inside and out, including the people of it and their lives. My ambition is to change the world. We all have the desire to, but I want to change the future and better what is to come for the next generations. My generation lives in debt, both of monetary value and making up for past generations’ moral faults, and constant fear of violence and acceptance. By being accepted into the Leadership Program, it may change my life, bettering me and giving me experiences that I may not gain in the real world. I could meet new people and learn new backgrounds, while furthering my future opportunities to change the world and educate myself and
I entered the Leadership Program with a narrow mind. I thought that I knew the expectations of leadership along with everything that leadership entails. After all, how difficult could it be to persuade others to see your personal opinion and then, get them to follow your dreams? All one needed to do was be passionate about a cause and have good public speaking techniques. Little did I know, there is a lot more to being a leader than meets the eye. By participating, I was
During 8th grade at Howard D. McMillan Middle, I believed one person could make a difference if they just set their mind to do so. Our school had many restrictions and few student activities. Early that year I became interested in Student Government (S.G.) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), so I decided to run for President of both clubs hoping to make a change.
Discovering and choosing a college that best suits my needs was a rigorous yet thrilling task. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising clearly came forth as the best choice for me to further my education in design. Being unable to visit the college campus, as I live in New York, I've done lots and lots of research about FIDM, and I realize the institute offers what I hope to gain from my college experience.
Though I haven’t had the most involvement in extracurricular activities, I have been trying to turn that around. I joined FCCLA at the start of freshman year. FCCLA was an excellent experience to improve my leadership skills, as well as getting engaged with the school and community. This ranged from helping out with school activities, to collecting and organizing books to be donated to children, and crafting dog beds to donate to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I ended up not resigning up for FCCLA the following year due to my dealing with a difficult death in my family. However, since then I have gotten stronger and want to expand my community involvement. For that reason, I joined Student Council after the end of my junior year. As a representative, I help in school activities and decision-making. Though I’m a newer member, I’m excited to be a part of the Student Council. I have also recently joined the Science National Honor Society. I was able to join this club because of my accomplishments in science. I doubled up biology and chemistry my sophomore year, challenged myself by taking AP Chemistry my junior year, and am currently enrolled in the Pharmacology Technician program at Kirkwood as a senior. I am eager to see guest speakers and have already signed up for a couple of community service activities in this
Growing up in a small town, with the knowledge of a small town community can have an effect on you. Having the respect and dignity to know between right and wrong adds and interesting aspects into a life style. Growing up in a small community makes you realize what it is like to have small class rooms and having your teachers know you by a first name basis.Knowing everyone on each sport team because “everyone knows everyone in a small town”. I had the ability to be able to ride my bike down the street without a real question of my safety where I grew up in Worland Wyoming. I have different academic interests than others may, I enjoy different extracurricular activities than other students, and life experiences that are unlike anyone else that have shaped me into who I am today.
Student Council and the National Honor Society both share a common purpose: helping others. I have been a representative for my grade in Student Council for three of my high school years and a National Honor Society member for two. In the National Honor Society, I have served as president throughout my senior year. Coincidentally, one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society is service, a component in a good citizen. As a National Honor Society president, I have helped coordinate a blood drive and assisted in others, provided support to the students who struggle socially or academically, and coordinated award presentations to a majority of the student body. The other side, Student Council, has also provided for me a way to help others and be a good citizen. Through Student Council, I have displayed citizenship through boosting school morale, volunteering for various school events and creating and approving new, innovative plans to make school life better. As an active, volunteering student, I hope that I made a positive impact, big or small, both inside and outside of the
Since the time when I was little, my parents always encourage me to do the best, work hard, become educated and have a positive life style at a very young age. My earliest memories are that of reading interesting books because I love to read and do my science whiz experiments. However, I also had great interests in playing with Lego pieces and conducting fun chemistry games in my own tiny lab. It was a fun time for me; at least that’s how I recall it now. The only things I had to worry about were: what will I have for lunch today, which chemistry game or Lego pieces do I want to play with and my team winning the sports games I use to compete in.
I’ve always been interested in the field of medicine. When I was being born, I almost died, being saved only by the ingenuity of a Nurse Day for whom my middle name is dedicated to. Above all else, I want to have an impact on the quality of life for others, and I think the University of Pennsylvania is one of, if not the, best ways to do that. Its bioengineering department is consistently ranked to be the most rigorous in the field, and I can handle rigor.
A critical moment during my undergraduate career is when I came to the realization that it is alright for me not to know what to do with my future. I realized that I was doing the right thing by furthering my education so that once I finally did know what career I wanted to pursue I would then have a degree to help me stand out. Once more, Dr. Reed convincing me to pursue a degree in Communication is one of the best pieces of advice I acquired during my undergraduate career, if not ever. I most likely would not have the confidence I currently have in obtaining a degree that I have no idea what I am going to with once I graduate.
In high school I was always the student going “above and beyond” everyone else. In many situations I would take the initiative to “super head” projects and make sure the task given was being done the correct way. At the high school I attended there were not many students like myself. Other students were focused on being in the “in crowd”, this left me feeling alone and not having anyone to relate to. When I stepped foot on Hampton University’s campus and saw the Student Leaders during New Student Orientation Week, I immediately knew that I wanted to be apart of the organization. Within the students I saw qualities that I also embodied, I also saw a group of hardworking students who are ready to succeed and take on the world. If I was accepted into The Greer Dawson Wilson Student Leadership Training Program (SLP), I would automatically grow as a person. I have already grown during SLP week, by learning that it is okay to come out of out of my comfort zone. Being apart of the Student Leadership Program would help me strengthen the leadership skills that I already
The position of honors is a much valued and highly respected position in which only a select few are chosen for its place. I myself believe that I am a suitable candidate for such a position given the type of person that I am as well as my personal experiences through business.
Universal college is my college of choice because it has the career opportunities that I need to further my major; I hope to contribute in Universal College by taking my leadership skills from my job as an Assistant Manager; I would like to get achieve my goals of getting good grades; I want to take part in voluntary clubs to help give back. For example, taking leadership skills from my job will allow me to contribute a skill for future leaders. I listened to what my boss said to get to the Assistant Manager position. Being a leader could help me teach others that have never had that responsibility; this experience is only one of many that proves why i am choosing to attend Universal College. However, I would like to get good grades in all
Goals, goals, goals they're what people think about and how they are going to achieve them in the future. My three goal in life are to get in the college of my choice, go skydiving and to get a well paying job. These three goals are important to me because they are what I am likely to achieve within the next ten years. As I grow and blossom into someone big, someone bigger than who I am today I don’t mean just physically but bigger intellectually, and more capable. These goals show me that if I want to achieve them, then I have to work hard to accomplish them.
If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”. These are the words Ralph Waldo Emerson once said. Emerson was an influential writer and poet that is still studied to this day.
