I am excited to have the opportunity to submit my qualifications for consideration for a position with Residential Life. I spoke to Larry Perse in November of 2015 about my interest in working as an RA and I believe that I would be very well suited for it. Not only am I responsible, friendly, and attentive, I have experience in many different aspects of student leadership.
I have had leadership positions starting with club executive roles in high school and with the Nutrition Society here at Johnson & Wales. I am an alumni of several leadership seminars such as the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar and Sunflower Girls State. The latter is a program that focuses on teaching young adults how the government functions and includes valuable lessons of how to represent the will of others when you are in a leadership position.

I am allowed to work independently for the most part and it has been up to me to maintain communication with my group members and to plan events. I function best through self-motivation and setting personal deadlines. I also believe that the emphasis I place on staying enthusiastic and kind to others have been major contributors to my success in a student leadership position thus
Some of my leadership experiences consist of being in LDS church presidents such as president, First counselor, second counselor, and secretary. I have also been a youth leader in my 4-H club, The Coltman Wranglers. A school activity I have participated in was on the Panther’s swim team in eighth grade, then junior and senior year I was on the Bonneville high school swim team. I participate in FFA through the Technical Careers High School. THis year I am our FFA chapter’s secretary. Last year I was on the Rangeland team, which is when we study plants, soils, and we have five cards to go through about the rangeland. Last year I was on the parliamentary procedure team, which is a speaking event along with a test, I also competed on the ag sales
Leadership has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself taking on leadership roles, whether it be by volunteering or coordinating different projects for the benefit of my school or community. Taking on leadership positions has allowed me to develop skills in communication, delegation, and managing multiple tasks and deadlines. As a member of National Honor Society and an officer of Student Council, I am presented with various opportunities to show my leadership skills. For example, I have been in charge of planning multiple pep assemblies for my school. Helping coordinate blood and canned food drives, angel trees, as well as organize an abundance of fundraising events has created a sense of reliability
My first leadership opportunity was to teach a cosmetology course at my high school. I focused on teaching the girls the aspects of cosmetology that they find appealing while still getting them to learn the less exciting aspects of the course. This allowed me to create a trip to the local senior center so that the girls could learn first hand how to do certain skills and to really perfect their abilities in a controlled environment. I currently teach cosmetology 15, 25 and 35.
The President of the Student Council. The drum major of the marching band. The founder of the biggest club at school. All of these positions involve organizing, interacting with, and motivating a large amount of people and just scream “LEADERSHIP!” However, this wasn’t the right kind of leadership for me; I’m not the type to get up and speak in front of a big group of people or give grandiose motivational speeches, but I still wanted to be helpful to others nonetheless.
Throughout my high school years, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership skills through different organizations and events. I have participated in events such as History Fair, and have been part of the organization of National Honor Society through three years of high school. I was the leader of my History Fair project group when preparing for competition. The organization of National Honor Society has helped me demonstrate my leadership skills through volunteer work meant to help and improve society helping me gain experience as a leader.
I have demonstrated leadership in a several different ways. During middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. In fact, I gave up a majority of my study halls to help out the advisor. I am currently a captain of my fall sport. Because I hold this position, I help the underclassmen during games, encourage them, and resolve conflicts. In addition to that, I used to be a teacher’s assistant to a second grade religious education class. Next year, I plan to join student government and maintain leadership positions.
One of the first real leadership positions I ever had at my school was in the Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club. I became a member my first year at Hillcrest as a sophomore and became immediately interested in their purpose as a school club. While it may sound cliché, the members of the club, and especially the leaders, wanted to make a difference through their service. We would at least monthly participate in creating art crafts and activities for the children at Shriner’s Hospital and then deliver it to them. While it may not seem much to the average person, the happiness on the children’s faces was worth all of our efforts and more.
I am a leader when it comes to multiple things. In my choir, I’m the section leader for the baritones. In group projects, I often take charge of planning the project in order to ensure that it gets done in the best way possible. One of the most notable times I took a leadership position was when I volunteered with a group of my NHS peers at the Hot Chocolate Run in downtown Chicago. As more and more people began to finish the race, the lines where we were serving hot chocolate became really hectic and crowded. I decided to take leadership and usher people into different lines, as well as tell everyone to have their tickets ready when they got to the counter, even though I was not told to do that. In doing this, I expedited the process of handing
Throughout my high school career I have encountered the chance to experience the position of being a leader for my peers. I have pursued leadership skills by being an officer in HOSA for three years, leading community service events for NHS, and taking charge on running school events in Key Club. I have obtained valuable leadership skills throughout my high school career, and encouraged the club members to take charge and develop leadership skills to help them in the future.
I have held numerous leadership roles, such as being captain of the volleyball team all four years of high school. I believe that having this experience demonstrates my ability to be a leader in a group of my peers. I also was an orientation leader for three years where I was showing new students the ins and outs of our school. This experience will help me when I would be training new employees.
I choose to apply for the RA role as a result of believing a responsible student that is ambitious and be able to follow up with studies. In fact, my goal is to attend medical school, proving more than just a academic student. Above all, I work hard to pursue my dreams by being involved in school. With this in mind, I appreciate being part of the student housing due to independence and how it inspires to grow. At first, I have gone to RHA meetings and game nights, where these events have inspired me to be a role model as a freshman in student housing. Secondly, reading the terms and conditions page, I know that this is a prestigious position. I admire to be competitive to see how I can succeed and willing to put my best effort into student
This past summer I had the chance to attend the Summer Leadership Institute at Marquette University. During this time I gained a better understanding of leadership opportunities available to me if I were to enroll there. We had the chance to volunteer at a local food pantry called Feeding America. From there we then divided into several groups at the pantry. In order for each group to be successful, there was a system developed within that group. My group was in charge of packing all sorts of food into boxes. In Eastern Wisconsin, 1 in 7 people are facing hunger. The project that I was able to take part in improved the lives of many all over Eastern Wisconsin. No student really assumed a leadership role besides the counselors, but this was
What inspired you to take interest in the RA position and what will you bring to the Residence Life team if hired?
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself formally to you. I have been living in Radcliff since 1987. I am originally from Perry, Florida which about 52 miles southwest of Tallahassee. I have served in the US Army and am currently working for the Transportation Cabinet of Kentucky. My hobbies are repairing computers occasionally and weightlifting. I am enrolled in Campbellsville University and seeking a degree in Christian studies.
Over the years, my interest in the fashion industry has evolved along with my understanding and through my studies, personal experience and personal research. I have decided that a career in International Fashion Marketing is a perfect fit for me. The highly rated International Fashion Marketing course at Caledonian University will give me the necessary tools to turn my career ambitions into reality. I am especially excited that this course was designed with the industry consultation and combines real world business scenarios along with academic theory. The four week work placement in the second semester will be an invaluable opportunity to apply skill-sets learnt and a perfect enter way into a career in Fashion Marketing.
