In this letter of intent, I am going to focus on the purpose of studying Industrial Engineering further at the post-graduate level. I have chosen University name because I feel it will best prepare me to fulfill my future career objectives. I jot down my Statement of Purpose with due respect to the Department and the University.

I always wanted to get into the greatest of all Sciences, i.e. engineering. The good thing about Mechanical Engineering is that all my interests find application. Considered the most versatile field in engineering, Mechanical Engineering covers range of subjects like design, software, production analysis, manufacturing to name a few. This field demands high creativity, innovative thinking, very good hold on Math and most important to think radically. This triggers the pulses and is the very reason for choosing this as my field of study. Starting from the first steam engine, Aeolipile to today’s Mars rover, the transcendental pervasion of mechanical engineering has shaped the life on this planet as we know it today. This progress seems never ending as the new technologies are engendering ever new complex challenges. Therefore, merging of fundamental research with real world applications is demanding now more than ever. As a student of Mechanical Engineering, I am well aware of these facts and have decided to pursue an active career in cutting edge research. I am strongly motivated to undertake graduate studies in order to pursue an MS in Mechanical Engineering, which, I believe, will prepare me for my further study at the doctoral level.

I am Pratap Reddy Narayan graduate in Mechanical Engineering from M.V.S.R Engineering College, a highly reputed institution for Science and Technology affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad one of the premiere universities in India. This is a crucial time for me to reflect on the various roads my career could take, as I am about to complete my undergraduate education in a few months. I am doing my B.Tech in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka, India, which is among the top engineering colleges in India. The time that I spent here, learning about the various mechanisms that make the world go forward, has really helped me understand where my interests lie and where I can make a subtle yet noticeable difference in this world. So I pen down my statement of purpose in front of you.

To study the program, I had to overcome many a hurdle- such as the common entrance examination which I had to take alongside thousands of students. I passed the examination with flying colors. I took up Mechanical Engineering in Babaria institute of technology which is affiliated to the prestigious Gujarat Technological University. I chose Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate major as I believed it had tremendous potential. Throughout my undergraduate program, I have maintained an excellent academic record.

This is the aspiration that all engineers need to have, which is the desire to create something more versatile and closer to that of an ideal device.

“Learning makes a man fit company for him”. This maxim impressed me right from my childhood days to learn something new each day, learn, learn and relearn until the end. My decision to apply for MS in mechanical engineering has emerged, both from my passion for research and my aspiration to understand the concepts of engineering. MS in Mechanical Engineering can provide me with the platform to further improve and ultimately refine my knowledge and skills in my areas of interest. Right from my childhood, when I started understanding little things I have been fascinated with the world of the machines that made life easier. My passion for mechanical engineering only grew with time as I kept on finding out about how things function around us like bikes, cars, and machinery etc. I believe the MS program from your esteemed university is pivotal for me as quality, knowledge and impeccable guidance will mold me to be in the learning mode all my life, opening the way for constant growth as a person and a professional. So I wanted to become an engineer and satisfy my inquisitive nature. This keen enthusiasm made to opt for a career in this field.

I decided on pursuing my Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in GERMANY with excellent infrastructure, the country has, in mind. I want to work for solving real-time problems. My interest in the subject will help me attain my goal, by taking up the Mechanical Engineering and Management program at your university, I will do the best in my field of interest. As a young boy, I would often dismantle my small toy cars and re-model them. The activity never lost its zest and as I grew up, It is very fascinating to watch different cars passing by me day and night. I always wonder how cars are designed and developed and I dreamed that one day I wished to become an engineer and work towards my dream of designing cars for the best names in the world. It is this pursuit of knowledge that has been my motivation and has made me to apply for masters program in your esteemed university. I was confident about my choice and knew that it was the best way forward…till destiny took me to Germany.

Industrial engineering benefited me with basic fundamentals of mechanicals along with principles of industrial engineering and management along with my favorite subjects like quantitative techniques, logistics, advance manufacturing process and business accounting and costing which not only inspired to complete my undergraduate with first class but also developed my interest for further studies. During my four years of academic course of engineering I participated in many national levels technical events of robotics in which I secured 1st prize in VIT and COEP collages. During final year of under graduation I completed a project work in SKF India Ltd in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). In this project work I found the non-productive activities, bottleneck in the process and suggested corrective majors. After implementing the changes the process efficiency increased by 41% in deep grove ball bearing (DGBB)

The book is written by Chetan Bhagat who himself has received undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Delhi and later MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad.

I am in pursuit of a life where the education I choose lets me explore the wealth of knowledge and wisdom. I strongly recognize that manufacturing engineering is the domain where my purpose and passion mingle. It is my earnest belief that the education in manufacturing engineering that I have received until now has helped me to grasp the fundamental principles of the subject. This knowledge, when coupled with dedicated master’s study would be the ideal preparation for a career in applied research or academics in the manufacturing industry, a vast field of science from developing new materials to manufacture an aircraft. After giving a visit to an Aero India Show last year in Bangalore has, developed a curiosity in me to know the manufacturing world of an aerospace industry. It is for this reason that I wish to pursue a Masters course in Aerospace Engineering in the “Aerospace Structures and Materials track” from Delft University of Technology.
