I am very glad to find you are an alumnus, posting at the Birmingham School of Law (BSL) website seeking for additional staff/paralegal/law clerk. I am the best candidate you will ever find. (Please see attached CV and attestation) As a refugee well versed in multiple languages, I became an effective counselor to thousands of other fellow refugees. The mission to serve others has been continuing until today. Immigration statutes, rules and regulations are not the black letter law, but it is the very imminent part of American Immigrants’ lives, and I am a very truthful part of it. I have helped immigrants from filling out their applications to providing services to legal counsels and the courts as a licensed court interpreter (simultaneous/consecutive
During the 2015 Canadian Federal election, I volunteered for Anita Vandenbeld, the Liberal candidate in my riding. I spent after-school hours over three months making phone calls and going out door-to-door canvassing, which gave me the opportunity to talk with my community members, many of whom were first-generation immigrants and refugees. I listened to their stories about their struggles in their former countries, hearing personal testimonies of global challenges today. Many were Vietnamese and Somalian refugees, having fled conflict in their home countries. Their tales of success in the face of hardship inspired me deepen my understanding of our world issues and, as co-head of Lisgar Collegiate Institute’s Model United Nations Club, incorporate the discussion on immigration and refugees in my club. If it were not for the education many

Since Amin Ahmad immigrated into the United States from India, he has real life experience that contributes to his claims. He is able to connect specific occurrences he faced with immigrants like himself, and their comparable situations. He explains that, “my passport tells the story of my immigrant life: my student and work visas; all the entry and exit stamps as I traveled between India and the United States” (Ahmad 38). His passport is a constant reminder of the journey he has traveled and the experiences that define him as a person. Ahmad demonstrates a perspective of immigration that is unique to many. Not only has he made the steps towards leaving his country, he has successfully created a life for himself. He has lived in the United States for a long period of time and even has an American fiancé. With this unique situation, he can connect with a vast amount of different people, both citizens and immigrants.
Studying to be a physician requires lots of effort and time. To an immigrant like me, I tried to manage my studies, volunteer work, and adjusting to a new culture at the same time. I like to stick with my plans, and it has always been my plan to enter medical school on 2018. However, my road to entering medical school didn’t come as easy to me. After transferring to University, two of my close family passed away.
Like many others, my perspective and ambitions are driven and profoundly influenced by my family’s history. As the daughter of two Ukrainian refugee immigrants, I have learned firsthand how important it is to have access to legal resources. While living in the Soviet Union, my family was repeatedly denied community benefits because of their Jewish heritage. Religious and ethnic persecution impacted my family’s life in negative ways, minimizing their confidence and limiting their opportunities. However, once they received assistance from an outreach program, they were able to receive asylum in the United States and begin a better life. This
U.S. immigration policy has always been an important topic debated by Presidential candidates for decades. Immigration reform has been ignored by Congress, leaving decisions up to the President and Supreme Court. In the meantime, the hopes of about eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., as well as future rules for legal immigration, rest on the shoulders of those decision makers. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both agree that changes to U.S. immigration policy are needed; however, Donald Trump is taking a radical approach suggesting mass deportation and completely revamping U.S. immigration policy, whereas, Hillary Clinton is overlooking some issues and wants to continue to support the policy set forth by the Obama Administration. Regardless of who becomes President, they will have a hard time getting these issues passed through Congress.
On Monday night, the Denver city council passed an immigration ordinance that forbids city officials from asking about anyone’s immigration status or requiring anyone to discuss it. This law makes it difficult for the federal government to track and arrest immigrants. As a result, people have become fearful that these immigrants will cause harm to the public through robberies and murders. Many people are afraid of the unknown and seeing the kind of damage immigrants have done in the past, it automatically makes people assume that every immigrant is the same. For example, the field director of ICE made a statement that “this irresponsible ordinance...deliberately obstructs our country’s lawful immigration
Immigrants come to the United States for a variety of reasons. Some migrate to enhance their ability to earn money, while others come with the goal of reunifying their families. Certain groups of people come seeking refuge, having fled turmoil and uncertainty in their homelands. The reasons immigrants come to this country are wide ranging, but all who come here face a transition that is nothing short of challenging. Cultural differences, language barriers, and pressure to assimilate, are just a few of the struggles immigrants face in an America that has become increasingly hostile to those who are different. The ability of immigrants to overcome these obstacles is paramount to their success and happiness in America. Because of this fact, I
Millions of people have the desire to become citizens of the United States, but never consider working with the department of US citizenship and immigration services. A lack of proper understanding can keep you and your family from becoming citizens, so it is important to educate yourself. With this guide, you will understand the truth behind these common myths regarding immigration.
The famous singer-songwriter, Conor Oberst, told huffington post, “How we treat the undocumented says a great deal about us as a people and whether or not we'll continue to fulfill the fundamental American promise of equality and opportunity for all.” According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 240,255 people were deported in the year 2016. However, this year the number of arrest have rose up to 38 percent (Gomez). The number of people being deported have been increasing every year. The reason behind the increase of number is unfair hearings and policy of deportation. The United States Immigration System should change their policies on deportation because it violates the constitutional rights and exposes the inequality towards immigrants.
Immigration in the United States has been a big problem for a long time. Immigrates come from all over the world. Some of them are legally here and some are not. Immigrates take jobs away from the citizens of the united states. They work for less money and most time, work harder and longer days. This is one of the causes for unemployment to be at an all-time high. “Over 8 million Americans were officially unemployed in July, with more than 2 million classified as long-term unemployed,” as Jan C. Ting reports. With the influx of immigrates, they taxed many of our resources. These resources are as simple as having enough water, food or houseing. Medical help is also being used at the cost of the citizens of the united states. Some say,
Total inhalation of immigration would not be a healthy choice for the United States. However, setting out for stricter laws to become a citizen is in need. There are over 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the United States (poll 2011). Therefore, having restrictions on immigration overall can help the economy grow, security at airports, docs, borders, and on the streets would not only lessen the illegal immigrants around the country, but supply more jobs for Americans. Illegal immigrants not only live in the U.S, but are supplied jobs in which were made for American workers.
Immigrating to the United States in 1993 from the former Soviet Union, my parents were forced to escape from their war-ridden countries with no money or knowledge of English. Neither of them pursued a higher education since they needed to monetarily support our family after I was born a year later. Consequently, being the firstborn to two immigrant parents became my most challenging obstacle growing up. The language barrier was difficult to overcome since no one taught me English; I spoke strictly Russian at home and began my education in a Jewish school learning Hebrew. When the time came to apply to middle and high school, I recognized that I would also not be able to rely on my parents for advice about colleges since neither of them completed
I am working at Migrant Education which is a federally funded program that supplements educational support services for migratory children. For this summer, Migrant Education has a summer school program for pre-school, pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, and high school students. To be honest, I was not too excited when I got an e-mail told me that I will be working with kids. When my supervisor asked me, I told her that I want to work with pre-K students. I thought it would be better not to work with the older students, because I am an ill-tempered kind of person. Just after my second day, I realized I was wrong. The little kids, they are very unpredictable. Some of them are nice, some of them are very shy, and some of them are….. recalcitrant.
The United States of America is the best place for immigration. The history proved that the United States was the dream land, the place of chances. That started when Europeans escaped form their countries because there were no jobs and no safe places to live. America became the best choice for people who were looking for political asylum, jobs, or freedom, but after a few generations something changed the Americans look to immigrants as strangers and they forgot where they are from because America is multicultural place and immigration movement should be understandable, but this is not the case. Governments should develop good laws for immigrants by giving rights to immigrants to stay in America, to protect them, and to allow people who
