Statement Of Purpose: Pursuing Law Enforcement

Many people studying in the field of Criminal Justice should choose their career carefully. There are many interesting careers that are arising as the years pass by. To become a successful employee you need to be able to fulfill many requirements, qualifications, and trainings.

As a child I always wanted to be a teacher, until my sophomore year of high school. The class of 2015 attended a tour of the Branch Area Career Center. The Branch Area Career Center is a technical school for high school students. As I walked around to different classes they offered my attention gravitated towards criminal justice. I attended my junior and senior year. My junior year we discussed different aspects of the criminal justice field. Once my senior year came, I job shadowed in my local district court. I was able to watch trials and meet local attorneys. My mentor throughout the year helped me discover my passion for the field of paralegal studies.

As I grew older I pulled more to the fence of criminal justice. Simply because I do not like the way the system is set up.

Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. Introduction: United States Law Enforcement officers are constantly under pressure. Their job requires them to serve and protect mankind, under any circumstances, at all times. Because of this, officers run the risk of putting themselves in harmful situation. This may include apprehending a violent assailant, or entering harmful locations. In this study, I used books and articles such as, Criminal Justice Today, to get an understanding of the dangers Law Enforcement Officer face in the line of duty. When performing task outside the prescient, office4rs are put into dangerous situations because of their surroundings, offender’s actions, and officer mistakes. Due to the high stress of this job, it not only affects their performance, but their health as well.

As a police officer’s career moves ahead one only thinks of the good that can be done by having this career. Ask anyone what the purpose of being a police officer is and they will answer that it is to keep people safe and maintain the peace. What many people do not realize is that being a police officer can damage a person emotionally. Many people see officers helping others and doing good but they do not see what happens when they are off duty. Just like any job being a police officer has its faults. A fault that being a police officer has is the emotional toll it can have on the officer and his family. At first I thought I wanted to be a Doctor like my brother Joey, to save people who were dying and cure illnesses. But after taking Biology I realized that human anatomy and blood weren’t my strong suit. My sister Katy is going to become a dermatologist and has wanted to ever since our mom was diagnosed with melanoma in 2008. Her career choice was very personal since a few years later she had a cancerous mole on her leg, but I just didn’t feel the same connection to dermatology the she did. My desire for a career in law enforcement started while pursuing my undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. As a freshman biology major with hopes of becoming a Radiologist, it did not take me long to realize the medical field was not for me. Peers in my classes had a passion and interest for the material that I did not possess. My grades poorly reflected the type of student I was. Realizing it was time for a change, at the end of my sophomore year I started seeking guidance. Unbeknownst to me, my disinterest in the curriculum was a major contribution to my poor performance. I completed career assessments and sat with academic counselors in several different areas of study. I was feeling more confused than ever because Criminal Justice courses often sparked my interest, but I hesitated due to the dangerous nature of police work.

Of course when figuring out what career you may want to pursue it is essential to inquire information from individuals who are working in that field of interest. In my case I decided to interview a longtime friend and active police officer in my hometown community. Officer Delancy from the Stuart Police Department located in Martin County, Florida. The current Mission Statement of the Jackson Police Department is to improve the quality of life for its citizens and to reduce the problems associated with crime. They want to educate the officers and public and develop a co-active partnership with the community. They endeavor to be honest, fair, impartial, courteous, and respectful. Today I researched 3 careers that I would like to further more explore once I graduate high school, these three careers were border patrol, military officer and nurse. All these jobs interest me because I would like to do any of the three, they are all very well paying jobs and they seem like very interactive and fun something’s I would like to do because desk jobs aren’t for me. Growing up is exciting and very scary. Being young is fun while it last but eventually everyone has to grow and go in to the working field. Law enforcement has been a big topic whether it be bad or good things said the law enforcement is always brought up. When I was young I took a fast interest in business. The moment I decided I wanted to be a cop was when I met my dad’s best friend that was a cop, and businessman. All any person wants in a career is to make a decent living and do something that they enjoy doing. I’ve always enjoyed helping people that needed help, the Kansas career pipeline let me take some surveys and showed me that I enjoy helping people more than I enjoy building myself something, which I believe that is true.

To become a private investigator The job itself shows a lot of determination and willpower to continue a legacy of an investigator. But no matter the case, I’m sure that I will fulfill any part that I need to at any given moment. The career is something that I know I will never get bored of. Well of course keep me interested every day. However, would also make my life more interesting known everyday i could be dealing with something different as in cases.. As always, every job will be difficult times, but I hope that I never feel the need to give up and that my motivation of helping others continues through lost criminal cases and more. Also, I hope that I do not settle for less and continue going up the law enforcement field and achieve goals each and every year for the career. This would always keep me on my toes and I know that it can help me try to keep going up. If I ever decided to switch careers i hope that i let it still be in the criminal/ law field. With this being said the ladder to receive this job will require me to successfully finish school with a prospering degree, always staying vigilant and keep moving forward, and enjoyed every little thing I can from the career. It would be a great experience to learn from and grow from also. But I hope I keep going up the ladder of success and settle to a hierarchy. Ending my essay I have to ask, Am I ready to take the next leap of faith that is called adulthood? We will see as time goes by and I grow as an adult that is striving for a better life and receives a well off career in a nice state/
