Statement of Purpose
Before letting know my intentions to pursue a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, I would like to throw some light on my childhood and the things that triggered me to choose Computer Science as my career. I was astonished when my science teacher told me about the Super Computers and their powerful usage in Space Administration as I was curious in knowing how typical tasks like launching a satellite were accomplished such easily. Throughout my childhood I have been fascinated by computers and computer games, but it was during this time that my interest in computers had truly taken a leap and when I first seriously started considering computer science as my career.
My interest towards Mathematics and Physics made me

With that training I came to know about various things like Honeypots, Dos Attacks, IP Spoofing, etc. I am a regular reader of magazines like, CHIP and Computer today, which enabled me to be in touch with the latest developments in various technologies. It was because of interest in me towards latest trends, I choose an ANDROID application entitled “STUDENT REMINDER WITH AUTO-TASK PERFORMER” as a part of my mini project. At present I am working on a Networking project entitled “MULTIPARTY ACCESS CONTROL FOR ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKS MODEL AND MECHANISMS”.
Apart from my academics, I have always tried to carve out some time for myself. I believe it is absolutely necessary to engage oneself in leisure activities to encourage overall personality development and personal growth. As a result, I have been an active participant in sports and extra-curricular activities. I am a Chess player and a District-level Swimmer. I organized many events in the college like, “LAN Gaming”, Technical Quiz, etc. I am also an active participant in Paper Presentation contests and General Quiz.
A few have secured placement from our college in HCL Technologies from our batch. Possessing good academics and communication skills I was one amongst those to be placed. Although I have a job ready after my Bachelors, I have opted for MS
Prior to this, growing up in Kathmandu, Nepal, my childhood consisted of me daydreaming of becoming the one and only computer scientist. I was just another young, eager child to meet life’s challenges. Taking these daring challenges led my journey to University of Massachusetts Lowell to pursue a degree towards computer science leading me closer
The field of computer science continues to grow in popularity and demand. I believe that computers are the future, and by studying computer science and entering a field in high demand, I am paving the path for my success. My interest in computer science and programming was brought out by my older brothers, who both major in computer science. My brothers often offer me challenges to complete and program, and I like to challenge myself. As the younger brother, I am constantly looking up to them, and their success and love for the subject have been passed down to me.
During the summer of my tenth grade year, I interned at Accenture, a consulting firm, where I repaired computers and resolved any software issues. At first I started opening and and exploring parts of retired dell laptops. As I became more proficient, I was able to help clients fix PC issues such as broken screens, replacing RAM, and transferring data from the hard drives to another computer. This internship inspired me to consider the Technology industry as a possible career. Taking into consideration the broad range of possible career paths in technology, I decided to major in Computer Science once I get to college.
Now a days technology is improving and students are staying at home, not being active. Extra-curricular activities are beneficial to someone’s life and discovers new skills for the individual. “One of the great benefits of extracurricular activities is creating new opportunities to learn and think about themselves to learn what they like and don’t like,” (Starett, 2011). This is why extra-curricular activities are important to help determine the individual discover skills that are suited for them, but time management is key to be able to participate in extra-curricular activities. “Decide which method works best for you: an agenda book for an electronic calendar and use it consistently,” (www.yrdsb.ca, 2015).
Through my academic years of highschool I wasn't allowed to participant in many activities due, to the fact that I had family obligations to serve and it meant I had to work in my uncle's owned restaurant, everyday after school and return home in the later hours of the night to complete my assignments due tomorrow, and this prevented me to enjoy the the many activities my friends were involved in. Though, I had worked many countless hours in the restaurant, there had been times where I was able to escape from the my reality and participate in very short and unconstant activities, for instance intramural basketball, where teams were formed to compete in every so often, to compete in a basketball game, and also, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) where each individuals were tested for their personal knowledge of a topic relating to the business spectrum, and participants could compete in team events against other schools and their groups.
Throughout my educational journey, I constantly hone my knowledge in computer science. There is not a day where I did not polish my skills.
Since childhood, I have always known that I wanted to pursue a STEM related career. I was fascinated by the evolving technological world and the various advancements but computers, in specific, stood out to me. Soon, working with computers came easy to me and I was off in identifying new software and utilizing programming languages alongside electrical components for various projects such as an LED displaying text on an Arduino board. Mathematics and science have also been strengths of mine and coming from a family with strong mathematical and scientific knowledge, I learned to integrate them into coding projects such as Sierpinski’s carpet and a basketball game. It is no surprise that our modern world is heavily computation and data driven.
Prior to my time in college I had very little experience with programming or computer systems in general. I spent time in high school helping the IT department with hardware work and a term of middle school working with HTML but it was all incredibly limited and as throughout my life I have enjoyed computer entertainment but I have set my sights on something different now. We are hurtling ourselves into the future at an ever increasing pace, there is no stopping, there is no turning back, technology has made returning to a simpler time impossible, it is the job of our technicians and scientists to make sure our trajectory is for the good of all mankind.
College is a privilege that everyone should get the chance to achieve. Many people do not get the chance to go to college and achieve their dreams. I am one of the few students who has had to chance to live out my dream of going to college and taking one step closer to the life of adulthood. My major is Management and marketing, and I plan on perusing a great career in business as soon as I graduate. In 5 years I see my self graduated and moving out of state or even country to fulfill my dream of working in a top rated business and being able to travel the world. This scholarship will greatly help me with this not only dream but goal of mine. Wearing glasses, is what I have worn my whole life and I would not have been able to see and do the
I went into computer science knowing absolutely nothing about it, especially since I started the class almost a month into the school year. In one school year, I learned HTML, CSS, and the basics of Javascript. This year, I am in Computer Science Principles, learning the basics of computer science, beyond coding. Now, I am interested in pursuing computer science as a career field. It’s truly incredible how you can stumble upon something that will lead you somewhere you’d never
Surveys show that around eighty percent of students participate in extracurricular activities. Participating in an extracurricular activity involves balance between the activity and academics while gaining positive impacts. Many people do not see or understand the importance of extracurricular activities. Critics might argue that extracurricular activities may harm student academic success, but what they do not realize is the benefits from extracurricular activities. The following argument started when the question was raised of how students were spending their leisure time and what they gained from their involvement. After school hours are the peak time for bad behaviors and crime for students. However, extracurricular activities provide a shelter for students for fun activities. Extracurricular activities contribute positively to student academic success by teaching responsibility, time management, and team building skills.
It is universally agreeable that with the advent of Computer technology, every ambitious and enthusiastic individual is really obsessed with the idea of doing computer science at graduate level because it seems to have created a zeal and enthusiasm in the hearts of youth, particularly those who aspire to be marked as high achievers. I, for one, seem to have been enchanted by these computer applications as they have made the world smaller, speaking in terms of globalization. I have no hesitation to add that core computerization alone is the suitable answer to all the areas unexploited and to the areas waiting for development. It has always been a fascination for me about how computers work, how these applications are designed and what can be the newer ways to explore the world of computers to make our world better. This interest became a passion for me when I was exposed to computer science basics, during my middle school. Pursuing computer science engineering at undergraduate level, further propelled my passion for computer science along with providing me a deeper insight and in-depth understanding of the subject. After completing my under graduation in Computer Science, I am willing to expedite my research interest and a masters degree seemed the most appropriate choice for realizing my aspirations.
My final year project, Network Management was based on networking and the process involved in it. In a scenario of multiple systems with one network, we aimed at monitoring and controlling the various processes in all the systems. Ours was the only project based on Networking and involved a fully operating computer network. As part of the project, I developed my acumen in running a computer network, a LAN connecting on LAN and with each other.
Without having or developing good time management skills, one may find it easier to stress out or find it easy to not make time for leisure. The results for a study conducted on 249 college students showed that the combination of anxiety reduction and effective time management affiliated with participating in leisure activities can be an effective technique for reducing academic stress (Misra & McKean, 2000, 41). The same study also states that, “campus recreation practitioners may plan leisure activities and social recreational pursuits that increase the educational benefit from leisure pursuits to help students handle their academic stress,” (Misra & McKean, 2000, 49). So therefore, there is time for leisure as long as we learn how to manage our time. Once we find time to participate in those activities we desired for so long, it will help cope with nerve-racking situations that surround our lives. Besides keeping us from stressing, leisure also keeps us entertained and it helps stirs us away from being bored.
I worked on various device drivers and various protocols like I2C, SPI, CAN, TCP, UDP. We were also introduced to RTOS concepts and I ported Embedded Linux on the ARM9. I topped the course securing ‘A’ grade. Successful completion of this course fuelled my passion to gain more knowledge in protocols, operating systems and computer networks.
