Every day in English one we are required to write “I Can” Statements. “I Can” Statements are basically statements that we write that tell us what we learned that we can do that day. My “I Can” Statements this week were that I can use the text and play of “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” to answer the given questions correctly (February 1, 2016), I can analyze the characters in the play and text to determine their similarities and differences (February 2, 2016), I can analyze the lines and language in the text and play to paraphrase the characters language and lines for my understanding (February 3, 2016), I can determine the literary terms used in the text and play to correctly answer the given questions (February 4, 2016), and that I can use the text and context clues to determine the meaning of words (February 5,2016). When reading the text I had to use my visualizing stills and imagination to better comprehend the language. By doing this I had to create the picture of what was happening in my head based on the text and stage directions which, can sometimes be difficult. But by doing this I gained a better understand of the text. By watching the play I had a better understanding because I got to see the scenes rather than reading them. By seeing the scenes I got to see the settings and the characters which, made me gain knowledge and a better understanding. The language in text was very complex and confusing but rather than reading the text I got to actually see the words come out of their mouths. I think that both the text and play helped be better understand
When you break through having a fear of your father and decide that you're ready and willing to hurt him. Fear and adrenaline mix like a bubbling poison that eventually explodes and you find yourself scarred and distorted, and you can never go back. You lose respect for him, for authority in general. Then all the things that he represents, all the principles, start to crumble and you ultimately lose respect for yourself”
When Romeo first laid his eyes on Juliet, he instantly fell in love and his feelings began to pour out. The description of Juliet by Romeo continues, as he compares her to a beautiful dove and all the other ladies around her to awkward crows. Instantly, every women, including Rosaline, became irrelevant to Romeo. All he desired and all he could focus on at that moment was, Juliet, the woman he knew he was destined to marry. Romeo had been trapped in a deep depression a few hours before he laid his eyes on Juliet, Romeo's feelings drastically change once he sees Juliet which proves to be love at first sight. Romeos early display of affection presents him as a man who is in love with the idea of love, and in turn allows audiences to like for him, just as they imagine he would for them. Although Romeo's character was introduced a few scenes prior, he was depressed and not himself. So, the moment he met Juliet for the first time it was also the moment the audience met the real Romeo for the first time.

In this passage by Friar Laurence, he uses the contrasting ideas of ill and well to show the control Juliet's parents have over her life.
Reason and emotion counsel and supplement each other. Whoever heeds only the one, and puts aside the other, recklessly deprives himself" Luc de Clapiers. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story based on the struggle of being caught in the balance of thoughts, passion, and confidence. Ultimately, Romeo and Juliet’s decision to follow their emotions over reasoning, leads to their death. In Romeo and Juliet, emotions heavily influence (and often shorten) Romeo and Juliet’s decision-making process.
Tut! I have lost myself;I am not here:This is not Romeo, he’s some other where.(1.1.190-191) This quote tells quite a few things about Romeo. The first thing is that he wonders off of what his task in hand is and convinces people in a certain way. Second is he has a good imagination and can picture him somewhere else.
so young, and both not having a relationship before, they are experiencing new things that seem to be the most amazing in the world, because they have no prior cognizance. Many people during their first love go through the same thing. In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says, “Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow, /That
Now, some might say that the tone of voice in the audio can help you understand better than reading the play aloud. That’s not true, if you don’t understand what is being said you can’t reread it because it’s an audio. Also, you can’t follow along with the words because it’s an audio. If you get mixed up, you will be completely lost.
Think before you act, a simple quote that holds a lot of meaning. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a prime example of how you should think before you act. The play is about a forbidden love between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet who both belong to rival families in Verona, Italy. A lot of things can be taken away from this play but The most important lesson is to make good decisions by taking the time to carefully evaluate all details. The first example of this is that Romeo and Juliet did not think through their marriage.
Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film, Romeo + Juliet effectively appropriates the Shakespearean 16th century love tragedy. So why has Luhrmann decided to appropriate Romeo and Juliet? By changing the context, Luhrmann effectively makes the play relevant, discussing his contextual concerns of the 1990’s. This is done through the use of themes in the film, love, family disputes and hate which have remained similar to the original play, although the way they have been presented are different, in particular the form and characters. The form has had an obvious change as the original play has been adapted into a film. Characters in the film have also been appropriated to correspond with Luhrmann's contextual concerns. Hence, Luhrmann successfully appropriates the original Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet by maintaining similar themes, but altering the form and characterisation to fit his contextual concerns.
Allowing students to read the play and watch the movie will help them to see how the characters are acting and their emotions better because of the professional actors. Students will also learn a lot from the play and movie. Students will learn that they should never give up on their dreams even when the times get
Many characters in Romeo and Juliet died before they knew the whole truth. Juliet did not tell her parents about her marriage with Romeo when they were forcing her to get settled with Prince instead she agreed. If she had told her parents about her marriage, they might have agreed to her decision since she was their only child. If the secret marriage was revealed before, many character wouldn’t have to face that many problems. Most of the problems rose when Romeo did not tell about his secret marriage with Juliet to her cousin Tybalt. The result of Romeo’s hiding the truth was death of Mercutio and Tybalt. If Romeo had told the truth before Tybalt would not hate Capulets as much as he did without knowing the secret. In the play, nurse helps
The author begins by saying that her lessons should be used as a resource, not a strictly followed procedure, and should be adapted to fit the needs of each teacher’s classroom. Graves is a strong believer that the teacher must give the students opportunities to act. Before reading the play, she has her students give oral presentations on “themes” that will help the class to build interest and background knowledge. Then, the teacher should briefly outline the play for the students. She has her students read the first scene of the first act independently. Graves says that before beginning to read, the students should be taught the correct pronunciation of all of the character’s names. The teacher must create a lighthearted atmosphere so that as the class begins to read the second scene of the first act, the students feel comfortable laughing out loud about parts that they think are funny. Graves believes that this will help fuel discussion about the scene. Then, she asks the students to act out their interpretation of the characters’ actions in the second scene. After, each student is assigned a role and advised to focus more on the actions of their character and less on their lines. Once the students have had the chance to show the actions of their character, have the class focus on Bottom’s actions and how the other characters seem to react to
Romeo and Juliet Paragraph In Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, Romeo’s impulsive and rash choices and nature are important because it ultimately affects his life and death. Romeo stands by the moon, talking to Juliet. Romeo responds, “the exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine” (2.2.134). Romeo knows Juliet is a Capulet, his enemy household, but he still wants to marry her anyway.
Romeo and Juliet one the most famous stories about love by William Shakespeare. Romeo and juliet were a pair of star crossed lovers who were destined to take their lives, for the sake that it will end a feud between their two families. Romeo’s family were the montagues and Juliet’s family were the capulets. If Romeo and juliet wouldn’t of killed themselves for the feud, they wouldn’t of been of happy together. Romeo was so quick to act in every situation, so he couldn’t really control his emotions. Both of them barely knew each other , and they only knew each other for four days and only loved each other for beauty. I don’t even think Romeo and Juliet truly even loved each other.
