Broken Hill is known to be Australia's long lasting mining city and the economy has indeed a opulent heritage. Its roots in this town is one of the world’s largest mining and exploration companies, BHP Billiton. The early history of another huge mining corporation, Rio Tinto is also associated to Broken Hill.
The diverse landscape that compromises a breathtaking array of scenery from lavish wetlands and lakes to remarkable smooth shimmering dessert plains around outback town of Broken Hill, is congratulated for its post-apocalyptic appearance. Dark red soils that contrast with the clear blue skies has the wedged-tail eagles flying. However, for the third time this century, the most iconic inland town is facing a critical water crisis. Broken Hill is still yet to find a permanent water source to guarantee its survival after centuries since its birth. “Welcome all 2,500 competitors to the 2016 Tough Mountain Challenge!” I heard the emcee yell that over the speakers around the area and my chest seemed to vibrate with the noise coming from them. In my life I have spent a great deal of time in northern Minnesota. That is the home of most of my family. There was a time that I lived up there, but due to constant changes in the world of lumber and saw mills, I have had to move. Every trip up back to the place I called home, we would see a large hill. It was a ski area. This place was a symbol for how close we were until I got to see my family. Under more scrutiny, I have discovered that it more than just a ski hill. This hill is called Spirit Mountain. This large hill contain multiple burial sites, and was used by the Indigenous group, the Anashaanabe.

We had a great plan, we decided to go explore the fourth room of the basement. Once inside we started climbing and playing with the elliptical. I looked over to the treadmill and said to jerry, “I’ve got a great idea. Why don’t we get on the treadmill with only our socks on and run as fast as the treadmill can go and then jump off.” Now jerry was only a year younger than me but he of course thought it was a great idea. So, we each took our shoes of and stood on the treadmill, the treadmill itself was relatively old and was so close to the wall. We stood there not thinking of the consequences of our actions, looked at one another and grinned a big grin. I turned the knob slowly, we started speed walking the running and running faster till we were panting, the knob was on fast burn the fastest setting on the treadmill. I screamed and screamed. My cousin sat there in silence watching this horrid event unfold before him, all the color flushed from his body. One day when it was really hot outside we went swimming in Vincent's pool and played marco polo. I was trying to escape the person who was it by going underwater and when I started to come up out of the water I felt someone's foot clawing at my back. Once I emerged I saw Matthew was the only person near me so i knew that he did so I yelled at him. He pleaded that it wasn't him and his friends backed him up so I decided to stop playing and sat in a chair near the pool looking at my painful wound.
