Since the dawn of mankind, our species, Homo sapiens, have been surrounded and bombarded with fatal viruses, diseases, and infections. As medical research and technology have slowly progressed, we have discovered an abundance of solutions to these contaminations. But, recent revelations in the medical field have led to incredible potential for eliminating any sort of syndrome, virus or cancer forever. Stem cell research could perhaps be the most revolutionary discovery in the history of medicine, and could quite possibly save millions of individuals from terminal illnesses. Stem cells could be life saving to millions of patients all over the world. But, this method of curing is extremely difficult to research and perfect, due to the limited …show more content…

There are many desirable uses for these diversely developed embryos, and, most likely, many more to be identified. One of these cells many purposes is the study of normal human development, which can be broken into two categories, the first being the “analysis of human embryonic stem cell advancement, which will yield information about the complex events that occur during human development” (What are the potential uses of human stem cells and the obstacles that must be overcome before these potential uses will be realized?). The second of these categories is the inquiry of the course that a single cell must take to become a specific organ or tissue. According to What are the potential uses of human stem cells and the obstacles that must be overcome before these potential uses will be realized, “This could lead us to a more complete understanding of the genetic and molecular controls of these processes, which may yield information about how diseases, such as cancer, arise and suggest new strategies for therapy.” Another possible use for these cells is the research of drug usage. It states in The Value of Stem Cells that, “These could be used to search for new drugs that improve their function or alter the progress of disease, and to test how drugs might affect different organs and different people.” Currently, human stem cells are being …show more content…

With more investigation and practice, medical researchers could perfect a method to stimulate “self-repair (coaxing stem cells in the human body to generate healthy cells to heal damaged tissue from within or to prevent further damage) to create new tissue, and substitute for damaged organs” (The Value of Stem Cells). Donated organs and tissues are often used to replace ailing or destroyed tissue, but the need for transplantable tissues and organs far outweighs the available supply. With the ability to differentiate into specific types, stem cells offer us a renewable supply of replacement cells and tissues to treat diseases including macular degeneration, spinal cord injury, burns, heart disease, and rheumatoid arthritis (What are the potential uses of human stem cells and the obstacles that must be overcome before these potential uses will be
